Browns sign Flacco

Hmmm, you'd think Pickett would still be "in the pole position", as I remember it was once famously said. We aren't far removed from Flacco leading that team to the playoffs though, and the fans remember that. They could turn on Pickett really quick if he starts off slow.

How hard is it to find a good QB in the NFL these days that Joe Flacco is still hanging around.
Pickett won't last more than 4 games without getting hurt.

I don't know if there have always been this many first round busts or if I just notice them more now that we're actually in the market for a QB. But it's been pretty rough as of late.

I think I brought this up before but it isn't so much that there aren't "good" QB's as much as it is what they are asked to do in the NFL. There needs to be an evolution at that position because there just aren't that many guys who can play 17 (or soon to be 18 weeks) and sit in the pocket, only to get the crap kicked out of them, just to throw into these impossibly tiny windows.

True story!

There’s still value in these veteran QB’s as safety valves. Like last year when the Colts played the Steelers, Anthony Richardson went down and Flacco came in and had a really good game.

Although he did kind of fall apart towards the end. And there are a lot of bad QB’s out there.

It doesn't seem to be talked about a lot (not that I'd know, because I don't watch anything on ESPN besides actual sporting events), but I think Trevor Lawrence is something close to a bust when comparing him to what he was supposed to be. Huge arm, but all he had to do at Clemson was throw 50-yard bombs to those receivers who would go up and get it over the DB. I don't think it has clicked for him at this level.

So if we look at the first round QBs since then...

Lawrence - I say bust
Zach Wilson - Bust
Trey Lance - Bust
Just Fields - Bust
Mac Jones - Bust
Pickett - Bust
Bryce Young - Ehhhh, leaning bust
Stroud - I guess hit, but I heard a lot less about him this past season... TBD, maybe
Anthony Richardson - I say bust
Caleb Williams - Ehhh
Daniels - Hit
Drake Maye - Ehhh
Penix - Ehhhh
McCarthy - We don't know, yet

Obviously I'm being a little too harsh on the younger guys, but I'm just saying none of them are blowing me away (besides Daniels, who I think is the perfect QB for this day and age).

Some of those guys landed in really bad situations but more of them should have had some success.

It's why I wouldn't even think about taking a QB right now. Purdy damn near won a SB, and then Hurts did win it. So building up the team around a QB is clearly something that works. The other option is hitting on a Mahomes/Allen/maybe Daniels type... but these guys don't seem to be coming around very often, and they definitely aren't lasting until pick #21 if they do.

I'm simply not taking a guy like Jaxson Dart in the first round. Either get me someone who is a special talent, or just plug in the best guy you can find once the roster is among the best in football, which the Steelers' clearly is not.

Maybe Bo Nix will be the one to prove me wrong; I forgot to add him to that list above. But I highly doubt he will be.

The Browns make the Steelers look like Mensa Candidates. Two of the stupidest organizations in professional sports.

as truly horrible as the browns qb situation is, it's objectively better than the Steelers current qb situation..

even if we sign Rodgers, i still think it's debatable. get ready for a season long battle folks, a battle for who can win 3rd place in the AFC north with a 7-10 record..

Let's just hope we don't enter a situation where it's Charlie Frye, then Brady Quinn, then Colt McCoy, then Brandon Weeden, then Johnn Manziel, then Cody Kessler, the Deshone Kizer, then Baker Mayfield within a 13-year span. And I'm giving them a pass for the QBs drafted after the first three rounds, as I consider rounds 1-3 to be when you take a QB with the intentions of him starting. I'm also not counting free agent/trade acquisitions, which would only exacerbate the stupidity of the situation.

But the moral of the story is if you don't get it right at the position you can waste a hell of a lot of time and draft capital while chasing your tail.

I am pulling for Aaron Rogers to... basically be himself and lead the Steelers on before ultimately deciding not to sign here. I don't know how many lessons this organization needs in not dealing with peckerheads before they actually stop doing it.
