“All you want is an opportunity"

Pickett tried to avoid answering the question about why he left Pittsburgh in his introductory press conference, but he may have inadvertently answered it when asked about the Browns possibly bringing in Russ or a rookie. All you want is an opportunity meaning he asked for the trade because Mike wouldn't give him one and absolutely promised Russ. Can we please finally put to bed the Kenny was scared to compete narrative! It was quite the opposite....all he wanted was a CHANCE to compete. He was never scared of Russ. He is too confident in himself.
Where did you hear that?

What he signed for is peanuts in today’s nfl. He’s shown he’s a capable backup and while there’s no way to be certain I believe a team would have signed him.
$4m a year would be tied for 8th highest salary for a backup (per 2023 season data). He's fine, but I'd consider him in the bottom half of backups rather than the top. I can think of 20 other backups I'd rather have.

I am thrilled that Kenny had a great couple of years at Pitt and won us an ACC Championship.

Its pretty obvious that he does not have great advisors on how he could be perceived or seemingly even improving his career.

Sitting out the Bowl game was a big mistake and he lost a lot of Pitt fans by doing it.

His media availability while he was hurt showed him as being a bit petulant. The man is almost 27 years old and wants to be QB1 somewhere. He has to look like a leader and seldom does.

It doesn't seem like anyone in his circle tells him the specific issues he has in the game because you don't see improvement. Every offseason he should be working with a QB God Coach to get better and make sure everyone knows he is doing it.

Kenny seems satisfied with where he is at but that won't last long in this league.

Sitting out a meaningless bowl game was the best decision he could have made. To be upset that he did is just as selfish as Kenny is being perceived as being selfish.

i dont think it was the best decision but it really was a big nothing burger in my opinion. he played great in the ACC championship game, and all season. that was enough for me.

the bowl game meant nothing. i doubt there are many pitt fans, outside of a few, that hold that against him in any way..

Well if Pitt were a team that frequented the top bowl games I might agree with you but they weren’t. They had a chance to make a national statement and end up a top 10 team, something they hadn’t done in 40 years, by beating a Big 10 team. Sorry but I feel it was a poor decision and a decision driven largely because Whipple wasn't going to be calling the plays. And for those of us who attended the game it was a well placed kick in the groin.

I didn’t comment on my view of that. But it is pretty clear he lost a significant number of his Pitt supporters doing that as was evidenced when his photo came up on the Jumbotron during first Pitt game this season

A 2nd-year quarterback, who is 26 years old, should be a hell of a lot closer to his prime than an out of shape 39-year-old coming off major elbow surgery. The excuses get funnier by the post.
You sounds drunk. If you are, please don't drive.... seriously. But also, experience trumps athleticism. Even Peyton Manning struggled early in his career. It takes time to get it rolling, and you need to right support system. You are a funny guy, and the whole antagonist schtick is cute .....until it's not...You have your opinions and I respect your right as an American to have them. I guess we can agree to disagree and move on to other matters like the team we root for (Pitt) finding ways not to fall out of the sky like a meteor again this year🤝

And Kenny had a chance to get injured when his stock was at his all time high. There is no reason to jeopardize your career because it could enhance a school's profile after 40 years.

Ooooohhhh the big bad mean lying Steelers. One day some of you babies are gonna realize what some of us have been saying. Sports is a dirty cutthroat business and it’s not for everyone.

Even the lied to and screwed poor Mason Rudolph understand it evidenced by his return.

But keep crying.
You do realize what he signed for last year right? There's a difference between angry and dumb. Ruddy ain't dumb. He will cash those checks with a smile. Good for him. If they want to pay him 8-9 million over the next couple of years to sit on the bench why wouldn't he takes that? What is crazy is he was well suited for the offense last year and probably could have did what Russ did and more. Sometimes I think Omar is in over his head and trying to make a name for himself too hard.

I gotta agree. The kid from MSU who was their star running back sat out also. I bet Sparty alum aren't bashing him for making a business decision. Kenny had nothing to gain and everything to lose ....plus. Whipple was gone. To each their own, but if he was my kid I would have told him to do the same.

He was the first starting QB to sit out a big 6 bowl game…just can’t rationalize away his decision. Selfish, in my estimation…owed it to his teammates and fans to play…people who cheered for him when he didn’t do much of anything his first 4 years. You can walk out the door and get struck by lightning….don’t accept sitting out the big 6 bowl games.

Well...he didn't think so.

No the BS was a young QB only 2 years into the league given ample opportunity to show something during those 2 years but not doing so and then turning around and thinking he earned some right to make a demands for opportunity, competition, whatever.
I don't give a rats ass about what Wilson did prior to coming to the Burgh, he didn't earn the job here !!! It was handed to him

pickett's failures in pittsburgh isnt a black and white thing, and we argue about it like its al or nothing. All of the following is true:

Canada and the System Sucked
Tomlin had him on tight leash
when given the opportunity, he played like garbage
we had a bad OL and an ineffective run game
They botched him as a 3rd string QB during camp only to get thrown in the fire
When given the chance, he played like garbage
He wasnt a first Rd qb

Again, all of this is true. it's not one or the other, its all of this.

A RB sitting out a game isn’t nearly the equivalent of the starting QB deserting the team at the same time that the OC left because his ham handed boss couldn’t get along with him. Pickett screwed Pitt and their fans with that move. Once again, Pickett had the distinction of being the FIRST starting QB in a big 6 bowl game team ..QUITE A DISTINCTION ….” we not me my butt”! Glad your son doesn’t play for Pitt.

Question, were any of those Big6 games in the playoffs? I assume you know the answer, so I'll follow-up by saying - what Big6 games that didn't have an impact on the NC have a projected high draft choice at QB?

It's become a trash organization I am afraid.

"This is a special thing right here. It reminds me of college at Alabama, all the resources that they have…I was just telling him, y'all have a great thing going on right now 'cause it's not like this everywhere."

Four years ago the playoff system involved 4 teams so that the big bowl games still meant something. I don’t disagree that bowl games TODAY, outside the playoffs, are virtually meaningless, and I acknowledge that my view may be somewhat old school but in my opinion, Pickett sitting out that game AT THAT TIME set a precedent( it’s not like he was a sure first round pick) and was a big blow to Pitt and their 25 k fans who traveled to Atlanta to see that game and had to suffer through the bull$hit being handed out by the MSU fans post game. Sorry, but those are my feelings on Pickett and my view that his legacy will always be tainted by his withdrawing from this game. I know there’s a different school of thought on this subject.

If they weren't a part of the games involving those 4 teams - those games meant JACK SHIT!

No.....he wouldn't have.....he would have sat just like Justin. The difference is Justin was traded for, didn't have a say, and knew that people were smart enough to see what happened. Kenny see the way Tomlin glazed over Russ and wasn't dumb enough to fall for that pole position BS 🤣. Let your boss tell you I'm bringing in someone from the outside who never worked for our company but I'm going to give him "pole position" for the job and see if you don't start updating your resume 🤣🤣🤣😈.
Russ got hurt and sat. Fields played the start of the season. He was okay, but did nothing special. No one questioned Tomlin's move when the Steelers went on a roll with Russ and when the offense reverted back to the Canada days, the defense decided to look awful as well. If Fields lit it up, Russ was never going to get the starting job midseason. If you want to keep your starting job, be better at it.
