And they were much needed as it got pretty darn cold and windy in the 2nd half. We watched some knucklehead in the student section show up in a short sleeve t-shirt tough it out until late in the 3rd quarter. Kids.

Pitt has an Athletic Director today that cares about the Fans, Alumni and Contributors along with knowing that helps the University and Athletics not their Buyouts and Egos! What a difference since Pederson Poison gone and Pitt Script return!

Didn't realize that Pitt had given out those gloves. They looked cool (and practical).

NIce move indeed.

Go Pitt.

Reminds me of the Pitt/Virginia Tech game in 2003 when Game Day was here. Frigid cold and we were shirtless, chests painted, front row of the student section, the whole 9. Made it onto Sportcenter... But the alcohol and the victory kept us warm haha.

LOL - the Mom in me just kept shaking my head. Who leaves their dorm/apt yesterday in short sleeves with no coat??????

Guess it got too cold for the students in the 4th quarter? Might have made things a little easier for the team had they stuck around.

Annoying but it is what it is.

True. But building enthusiasm and better turnout in the future has to start with the students. If they don't give a sht, our garbage attendance continues. We aren't like wvu or psu where every mouth breather in the state jumps on the bandwagon. Our attendance relies on alums more than most other programs. Just disappointed it hasn't gotten better despite the high enthusiasm for the program right now.

Hmmmmmm - have you been to any games this year cause the students have been fantastic. By far they show up in greater numbers, are much louder and have stayed through the 4th quarter compared to anywhere else in the stadium. This is NOT the year to point the finger at them.

I go to every game. I'm there no matter what for the rest of my life.

They still leave heavily after sweet caroline. Yesterday especially.

I expect more out of the students than I do from the rest of our "fans" and I want more from them because we depend on them for changing the atmosphere and turnout for the future.

Bailing on the team when they need you the most is the worst. The team deserves better.

That is patently untrue. I sit right behind them. Yes there have been some who will leave, but the great majority stay after Sweet Caroline now. Yesterday the entire stadium started emptying out in the 4th quarter. There are many on this board who have commented what a fantastic job the students have done this year. I thought we were beyond making them the scapegoat of attendance issues, but I guess not.

The student turnout was down yesterday because most of them have left for thanksgiving break. Friday could be bad too. Hopefully they do something to get people in those seats.

Yeah, there really weren't a lot of students there yesterday. The 100 level seats were pretty full, the 200 level seats were essentially empty, and the 500 level seats were empty.

Did they give out the gloves to the whole stadium? Or just to the students?

The students have been great this year and as the team piles up wins and winning seasons they will come and stay in greater numbers.
The idea of inviting the hs bands and hs cheerleaders was genius.
These kids are the future Pitt fans. This should be done more often.

Yes more should go and stay longer but I'm not gonna harp on them anymore. The ones that are there at least make noise. I do think it might be a part of maybe thinking about restructuring the seating areas. Next year's schedule is similar and not sure that 3 game pack thing helped or not. The stadium bowl the last 2 games has been half empty for most of the game.

My point was dont do it for just one game make it a regular event.

If you make something like than an every week occurrence then it no longer becomes an event. The reason that so many schools do it is because it's a once a year thing. I mean how many weeks in any season do you think the South Fayette band is going to schedule a trip to a Pitt game?

The HS bands coming in is a big recruiting tool by the Pitt Band. I remember when I was at North Catholic I was on the Pitt Stadium turf in 1981 or 1982. I'm sure the cheerleaders use it as a recruiting event also.

Why is everyone so concerned about the students??? It's no wonder that this country is having the issues that we are, we are turning our young men and women into a bunch of wussies . These are not 12 or 14 year old kids, these are young men and women who should be very happy with how the school is treating them in regards to attendance at football games. If I'm not mistaken, don't they receive the following...season tickets at a drastically reduced price, free transportation to and from each game, a free snack and drink after each game (why, I don't know) and now yesterday, free gloves for their cold little hands. As they say on ESPN..."C'mon man"!!!
If they want to be know as "The Difference Maker, the Panther Pitt", then make a difference and come to each game and STAY until it's over.
One other thing, the excuse about students going home for the holidays is nonsense. Most of Pitt's students commute to school either via car or public transportation, show up at the games.

The notion that most of Pitt's students commute isn't true, and hasn't been for a very long time. Most of Pitt's students live either in the dorms or in other Oakland housing.

Was that the game that the National Championship trophy was there, or was that against Miami?

Joe...Obviously I don't know what areas of the city or suburbs that the students live in, but over 57% of Pitt's students live off campus. To me, they are commuters.

Students living off campus in Oakland (which most students do) aren't considered commuters.

That is cool. I was friggen happy just to get a generic pom pom for the Buckeye game in 11. :p

Someone (Crazy Paco perhaps?) posted the actual PA county breakdown of Pitt undergrads at Main Campus recently. (Keep in mind that out-of-state students comprise > 30% of the total enrollment now.) It showed the # of students from Allegheny County was very low. The notion that Pitt is a commuter school is LONG gone.
