Buh-bye, Boeheim!

And not his decision either. Have to wonder how much damage those comments about us did. I know the administration there was very unhappy with him.

It’s in Syracuse news site and the university. Just not National yet.

The Syracuse Rivals site has quotes from the AD and Chancellor thanking him for his work.

“There is no doubt in my mind that without Jim Boeheim, Syracuse Basketball would not be the powerhouse program it is today,” Chancellor Kent Syverud said in the statement. “Jim has invested and dedicated the majority of his life to building this program, cultivating generations of student-athletes and representing his alma mater with pride and distinction. I extend my deep appreciation and gratitude to an alumnus who epitomizes what it means to be ‘Forever Orange.’”

I thought that was the plan as well. Plus, it's trendy. Howard, Scheyer, Davis, etc. Not that Boeheim himself didn't play there also at one point. But it seems silly to me to apply those old-school hiring tactics when so much more money is involved now.

Yeah this seems more like Esherick.

That’s a program that can’t afford much of a big dip. Harder to rebuild there than most places.

National guys are not on board yet. They are publishing articles saying he is being indecisive in the presser just now. Who knows.

If true, what a stupid way for them and for him to have handled it.

If true.

It still sounds like a diva effort to get fans and media to wail and beg him to come back for one more hurrah.

I hope he saw how the country treated Roy Williams and Coach K when they retired and realizes that he is not getting anything close to that type of love!

I certainly think he was “encouraged” to step down. Kinda like Brey and ND.

If the SU admin had asked Jimmy to return I imagine he would have. But that wasn’t happening. 78 years old. 47 years as HC.

Combined with the recent years’ results that was enough.

I don't think Pikiell was a possibility. His buyout is huge ($15 mil) and RU is paying him well.
One of the few jobs he would’ve found a way to left for. Absolutely would’ve walked to Syracuse because he would want to be better than UConn where he thinks he should be

Schools shouldn’t let coaches coach past their expiration date. Tell him when he’s 60 that he can coach until he’s 75. Plenty of time ahead for all of the commerative stuff and also plenty of time to plan out a good succession.

I know he had Mike Hopkins as the coach in waiting years ago. He got tired of waiting and went to Washington.

I don't want Boeheim to go. Pitt has won 5 of the past 6...... and 24 of the past 42... against Boeheim. I want that 2-3 zone on our schedule every year.
Be interesting to see what happens with their roster. Also what happens with GMac.

Of the Big East coaches Pitt regularly faced, I hated Jimmy B. Calhoun was awesome. Jimmy B sucked.

Whatever anyone thinks of him, this is certainly a strange scenario to end his 47-year career. He didn't even come out and say it directly at the press conference.

I think the decision had already been made for him and all parties knew it. The decision to leak it when they did was a kind of slap in the face, as some SU bigwigs wanted everyone to know they were the ones calling the shots.

It certainly is a milestone. The last of the original or near-original major Big East coaches. Louie, John, Rollie, Jim...

Jimmy was the last tie to that era. A lot of big personalities.
