Since Pitt last played us in 2000, its not like they have played programs that have been much better than us anway. There was the Bama and ND home and home but besides that:

Syracuse
BC
Temple
Central Florida (UCF's home game was in Dublin)
Virginia

Penn State can do better for a rival (remember?) and last I heard, WVU was pretty sure we were the odd man out when the ACC finally dissolves under the crush of the Big 12.

They should just compromise and play it every year. That's how they should compromise.

PSU only wants to play non conf games that they can win evidenced by Temple, PSU has won 38 out of the last 39 meetings. In 1969 when as an independent PSU filled their schedule with Army, BC, Syracuse, WV, Pitt , Temple, etc. - those teams won between 0 and 5 games per season ,and they got rejected despite being undefeated for the National Championship.
Marino said it best, the series won't be extended after Pitt beats PSU. The scheduling philosophy even extended to PSU's basketball team. The last scheduling agreement covering basketball with PSU was an 8 year deal, they won year 1 and then lost the next 7 straight to Pitt, PSU not interested in renewing the basketball series annually.

That would work well for Pitt. And if PSU would put a bit of effort in, it probably could play another ACC team half the time. Syracuse is an old rival of PSU that many of us would like to see replayed. I'd like to see PSU and Miami go at it again, and I bet that is true of many college football fans. PSU vs. UVA, VT, UNC, Clemson, GT, and FSU all would be nice TV games. PSU vs. BC makes sense in terms of promoting college football in the northeast.
