Can Pitt upset Duquesne?

This always confuses me?
Why would a good player like Mason and others select Duquene when PITT is right down the road. Is it that we didn't recruit these guys? Not sure of the attraction to a lower level Dukes program. I say lower level and now we might struggle with them another puzzle.
Pitt didn't recruit Mason. That said, this type of question is asked all the time. Some kids want to try themselves at the highest level, while others want to play right away, and don't want to risk being lost in a sea of highly rated players. Why would a kid want to play football for Pitt, if he has offers for Alabama, and Ohio St.? Folks got mad at the kid who chose Bama over Pitt, and have reveled in his struggles there, but there is no comparison between Pitt, and Alabama in football. If a five star basketball player chose Pitt over Kansas, and Kentucky, would we question his "crazy" decision? Of course not. We'd offer up a thousand reasons why he made a good choice. The kid who chooses a school below Pitt is afraid of the competition, while the one who takes a higher offer is crazy for passing up an easier chance to play.

Is there a better way to judge 3 point shooters other than BY PERCENTAGE?

Mason is the all-time leader by percentage. That's pretty strong evidence that he's the best.
The Trib article today said he's #2. And the claim he's either is sorta like that guy who has the all-time record for MINOR league HRs. Or that Mayweather would beat Ali in their prime.

If Dixon recruited Mason out of HS he would have been a fool. Now that Mason is good enough to start for Duquesne, Dixon was a fool for not recruiting him.

If Dixon doesn't brush his teeth twice a day he is a fool for not taking care of his teeth. If he brushes twice a day he is a fool for wearing off all the enamel. And with all the money he is making, why can't he procure a better brand of toothpaste?

Ron Cook said if Duquesne can hit threes they will win. Could be, but the way he said it on air sounded like he is just praying that a Duquesne win over Pitt will make Penn State not look quite as pathetic.

Head is spinning from the news on James Conner. It's ironic that the City Game is tonight, because Dukes star Derrick Colter had cancer last year, and his doctor was Stanley Marks. Got to think Dr. Marks will work the same magic on James Conner.

Relating to this 3 point talk.....

-RMU had one of the best 3 point shooters in the country a couple years ago in Karvel Anderson. Hopefully, some of you remember this dude.

-On RMU's website for his bio it reads...
"The only player in NCAA Division I in 2013-14 to rank in the top 10 in the country in both three-point field goals made per game (3.31) and three-point field goal percentage (.463). Anderson ranked ninth in the country in three-point field goals made per game and seventh in three-point field goal percentage." These stats speak for themselves.... He was amazing...

-He once had a game, (and I kid you not) where he went a PERFECT (during his junior year) 10-10 from the field and 8-8 from three. He could stroke it from down town.

-He was the team's go to guy and carried RMU for the whole season. (averaging 20 pts per game). Normally being the go to guy a lot of times hurts one's field goal percentage, but he shot 52 percent from the field...as a SG!

-Should have went to the NBA and hopefully still can some day. Had a game in Europe where he put up 30+ pts in a game this season.

-Oh... & he put up 38 pts against St. Johns in the NIT (shooting 9-15 from down town). During the 2014 NIT...

(St. John's actually probably had the highlights of RMU vs them taken down because they were so embassed, lol.)

I remember him. One of a series of RMU players who could have played at least at the A10 level. I thought Jeremy Chappell was better than Jermaine Dixon, who played the same position at Pitt. Reed transferring was a big setback for RMU this season.

Amen about Reed dude. Will be decent at Clemson but could have put up 20 pts a game in the NEC this year...
He put up 24 in his second college game ever vs UNC!! Was really good...

Hopefully they can pull it together soon.

Yup, Jamie played too many players too. Did anyone not get in the game?

One thing you can see different between Dixon and the Dukes... if you look at the stats.... the Dukes got 5 players that are averaging 20+ minutes per game and 6 others that are playing 9-20 minutes per game, while Dixon has just 3 players averaging more than 20 minutes per game, and a whopping NINE players that are averaging 9-10 minutes per game.

Dixon is playing way too many players... he is playing two deep at every position except C and PG where he is playing three deep.

Maybe the whole Gonzaga thing in Okinawa is coming back to bite him.... it was tiring going out there and tiring coming back and forced some games to be moved around and it is as if Dixon hasn't had the time to work out the rotation that he would have worked out with a normal diet of cupcakes or reasonable proximity games.

In any case... the rotation is a MESS right now.... with three players doing good (Young, Artis and Robinson), one holding his own (Smith) and everyone else... not getting the job done.

And you are NEVER gonna improve on D when you got a mess like that out there.
What the heck are you talking about? That was bizarre.

Ever notice how SMF brings his hyperbole statements to the board and then disappears when a chink is put in his statement?

"Micah Mason is the greatest 3 point shooter in history"

"Better shooter than Steph Curry"

LOL

Agree. They're playing deep because they are deep. Why would we play the big three for extended minutes in near meaningless OOC games? Purdue... a different story. But we played a D11 school for god's sake. And our other OOC games outside Purdue have been nothing to write home about. EVERYBODY should be playing right now unless during a certain game we are in serious trouble.
