can't believe they took the stripe off the pants!

I am too surprised that the stripe got wacked. Why does Pitt usually make the simplest decisions look difficult? I could sit down with the Nike folks and have a better uniform in 5 minutes. Heck, I'd ask them to use the Cathedral as the stripe just to see what they come up with.

the stripes were sweet

the new unis are underwhelming

Two big opportunities for this AD, both times ended up underwhelming. Hoops coach hiring now football uniforms. The rest of the sports look fine, but this was about football first and foremost and they came up short.

And yes, I realize the designs aren't the AD's, but someone had to approve and he's the head of the department.

This could've been done very simply... Add or do not add stripe to the should pad, replace the block on the neck with script, make the neck gold trim instead of blue, introduce a new blue helmet. Done. It annoying how better last season's jerseys look. Just some very simple alterations and updates. Go figure, Nike did such an outstanding job with Tennessee, MSU and tOSU recently. Not Pitt though. Well, not the football jersey at least. Looks the UConn football jersey more than anything.

Removing the pant stripe was a silent homage to the sartorial splendor of the Torch Cut Era. Or to pre-1973 Pitt uniforms. Take your pick. Thank the Lord Nike didn't take a page from the Pirates and introduce a red element to harken to the brief period, post- Sutherland, when a Pitt coach switched the colors to red and white.

Do you guys how lucky we are Nike didn't do a black uniform or dark gray, justifying it with a "Paying tribute to our steel-making heritage" line of crap?

Not to mention, designers don't get to go all crazy. There is input from the client on what they want. Plus, you guys do realize these will be tweaked within three years, right?

I wouldn't have minded multiple alternate looks to go along with a better primary home and away and the throwback. Cal was recently updated by Nike and their football jerseys are much better. I kind of expected that kind of update for Pitt given the programs are kind of similar.

since the players, players council, decides the uniforms before each game, I think it's fair to say those gold pants will be stocked away in the back of the lockers for most of the games. players gave up on the gold pants last year and these are worse. GOnna see a lot of white and blue pants. Add in the "retro" uniform and we may get lucky and never see the gold pants

Apparently the gold pants were shelved because the kids complained to Narduzzi they were uncomfortable, not due to any type of aesthetic preference. They must have been a different cut/fabric.

dang burnie, you are right. I remember now.. We still may yet have to watch games with the brightest gold pants ever made.. Look how bright these things are? Unreal. They almost look white..
