My wife doesn’t really watch Pitt that closely but coaches sports and knows basketball well. She was walking by the TV last night and commented that the only thing she ever sees Capel do on camera is bury his face in his hands and that his body language is poor. I of course explained the situation the team is in, but it is a good point and I have often noticed this about him. I would say only Boeheim has worse body language and facial expressions, but he at least has years and years of equity and success. This isn’t for anything… just an observation :)

Totally agree with your wife. He looks like a man trapped. He's over-paid and, hopefully, has invested well. His personal misery may lead him to resign. We can only hope. No empathy for him. That old saying "You made your bed, now lie in it" applies.

Anyone who truly thinks he’d resign is a little out there. I know you said may/hope so it’s not necessarily directed at you but it’s an absolute pipe dream.

I sure hope he is beatdown at year's end and resigns with a reduced buyout at $8 million. I bet he can't wait to get the hell out of Pittsburgh and back home. I'll always appreciate Capel getting the Pete cleaned up and renovated after it was ignored by the school (shocker, right?).

I would imagine you’re familiar with the saying hope in one hand and dump in the other?

He’d be an absolute fool to do that.

Unless there’s some scandal we’re unaware of he’ll be collecting every dime of his contract.

Message board comments on sideline demeanor usually the beginning of the end for Pitt coaches....

the demeanor in his pressers is pretty bad as well.

idk if he's checked out, or knows he's in for a hell ride this winter. his team legit has zero chance in conference play.. I'd say this is the first time I've felt that way about his teams. at least his first year you could watch these young kids and project what they'll be and watch them progress. the bar was low to start.. now it's year 4 and the dudes who are good and potential building blocks will more than likely leave after the season.

Is there anyone with any inside information at all that has heard one credible source among the decision makers that they have any interest whatever in ending this era?

Can’t see the gif…but I assume it’s the one where he says “it’s over”.

I don't think you need inside info, just common sense. If we only win 1 or 2 ACC games, maybe 3 and have literally no recruiting class while playing in front of crowds around 1000, how could you keep him? A big reason to keep him would be hope for the future but its likely that his recruiting class will be ranked 15th in the ACC. It is so huge for Capel to have a great class signed. Thaft could have bought him a year, maybe even 2 years.

Where it gets dicey is if he wins 4-5 ACC games. Even with no recruiting class and terrible crowds, that may be enough to save 1 year of buyout money but allow him to coach next season and get 1 more shot at landing a great class.

Well then it doesn't matter! Since Boeheim is like that and has 1000 wins and a NC, it didn't stop him.

I think Heather's biggest mistake aside from the extension, is not forcing Capel to fire two guys (including his brother) from his staff.
Should have never been allowed in the first place. And that’s not hindsight. I said it at the time. Way more potential for bad than good hiring family. And it’s not like he was anything special either. Dime a dozen assistant.
