Jeff Capel is the 5th highest paid coach in the ACC according to USA Today.

He makes over $3 million a season and gulp, is under contract through 2027.

Good job Heather, between Narduzzi and Capel you are paying 2 coaches like they are top tier. Instead they are 2 lower end coaches at best just fleecing the University. Your sorry extensions contributed to this farce. If anyone should be added to the hot seat list it should be Heather Lyke.

Honestly, what is there to do? We wanted Pitt to spend money that was competitive with the rest of the ACC, and they did (after paying for Stallings’ buyout no less). We wanted them to make a good hire on-paper, and they did. Obviously the extensions are a different conversation, but would you have wanted her not to spend that type of money? Then the narrative would be that Pitt is too cheap.

I guess this goes to show that nothing is a guarantee. The process was good but, so far, the end result is sub-par. Doesn’t mean the initial decision was wrong, though.

Well, like I said, that’s a different conversation and I’m more inclined to agree.

However, playing “devil’s advocate,” basketball coaching contracts are looking more and more like football contracts. You extend them indefinitely for recruiting purposes and cut the cord whenever the time comes with the assurance that the buyout can be paid. Heck, maybe it even shows potential future coaches that Pitt will pay top-dollar to sign (and keep) you.

With that being said, that argument may have gone out the window when she extended him the midst of a global pandemic and an uncertain economic future.

It would be a fair pay at least, hell any of us could do what he has in three years for 100 grand a year. He was a bad hire , the knock on him has always been , he needs to cheat to win, recruiting, as his x and o work is below avg. Well if Pitt isn't wasn't willing to play the game 90% of other schools play, he was the WORST hire you could make for Pitt

Why do you or anyone care what he’s paid or what PN gets paid ? That’s between Pitt and JC and PN and obviously Pitt hired and extended both coaches because they felt that was in their best interest .

They’re not going to lower your ticket prices or anyones tuition if they were only paying him $1 nor are they giving any of us a penny of that money so once again why care .

Could they get better more successful HC in Fb and Bb for less money ? Maybe , maybe not .

If you haven’t noticed Pitt had trouble filling their HC vacancies with any qualified established HC so they overpaid for mediocrity .

Finally would it make you feel better if he made only a million !

Like a poster stated above, they print the salaries, because many like to know what they are getting for their THREE MILLION a year, and we are getting RIPPED OFF. I should say Pitt is getting ripped off, that's what the washers will go after in my post not the ripped off part of it! I can't see how he stays after 22 if improvements are not had. Lyke should be on the clock as well

He is definitely making changes to the staff. That's not even a question. The question will be if he can bring in an assistant who can make any real difference

No coach is warranted that kind of money , it’s ludicrous that a university pays its bb and Fb coach 20 to 30 times
( or more ) than a tenured PhD , but that’s the way it is because the universities make millions from it . The whole system is absurd , but like I said they’re not going to give me any of money , reduce tuition of the students or lower ticket prices ..so other that for curiosity sake who really cares .

Complain that he’s not on schedule in his rebuild , but why waste one bit of energy on what his compensation is , your not paying it .

If I was Capel, and I wasn’t a good X & O guy, and I had three assistants to hire, I would make sure I brought in a good X & O guy.

its not just between the coach and school when the schoold calls me, mails me and emails me once a month asking for money for the program.
if they didnt panhandle me and the alumni base then who would care but since they do, they will get questions and rightfully so. i dont donate to causes without knowing where my money goes, that is foolish

What this team needs is more talent and the desire to play as a one unit . X was a talented fellow , but his departure is the first step in the right direction. . Toney has been involved in transfer speculation for two yrs now and first he didn’t like Trey and now he slept with JC‘s woman . Good riddance .
Bring in more talented players and it will be amazing how much better JC coaches .

While I don't think Capel brings any kind of coaching advantage, he and his staff are good enough coaches to win games. Yes, they just need more talent like you said.
