Carrington

I thought Carrington played well against Florida, but

for some reason, exited that game less decisive. It has carried over the last two games.

He’s being defended MUCH more physically and aggressively now. Especially by P6 G’s who are more experienced and stronger. Mizzou had several grad transfers. Plus East who was a JC transfer 2 seasons ago and is 24 years old.

Teams are hell bent to not let Bub get to wherever he wants with the dribble. They are getting right up into him. Taking it right to the limit with the aggression. In particular trying to make him go to his left.

Bub is very skilled and talented. He’ll adjust and adapt. But he’ll have to work hard at it. That will make him a better player.

Agree teams are being more physical. It seems to me, he can handle it physically but it is effecting him mentally?

Surely there should be counter measures to getting right up into him or forcing him to his left hand?

Not all teams have the personnel with the requisite strength, quickness and experience to guard a guy like Bub. UF and Mizzou were teams that had guys more capable of that: experienced and physically mature.

Bub needs to avoid getting frustrated. There were calls that could have been made against the guys defending him last might that were overlooked.

Pitt could maybe use him off the ball a bit more? Use more of Ish and/or Lowe as primary ball handlers, to give Bub more space to move without the ball? But they want him to be handling the ball a lot because he can create for himself and others; and he can get his own shot off the dribble; maybe better than any young guy I can recall at Pitt.

Plus he’ll learn how to handle this stuff better with more experience against tougher competition. Other than that, what counter measures do you suggest?

Agree about occasionally moving him off the ball.

Thinking maybe varying our screening?

Is there any counter to being over played to be forced left?

Kids going to be really good but he’s a true frosh. As he plays more and gets acclimated to the more physical play he’ll get better. However he’s still a boy amongst men physically. The biggest area of improvement will come this offseason when he gets in the weight room His improvement this year will be limited because he’s just not physically capable of matching up with older stronger players

I heard that there were 14 NBA scouts at last night's game. That was the only good news from last night. Now Bub can relax and think about this NBA talk after this season is over. Or next season is over.

I noticed that they did some of this in the second half with Leggett being a little more of a primary ballhandler in stretches. The problem is that Leggett was in the midst of the worst game of his career. And I don’t think Lowe is strong enough on the ball to handle big time minutes against mature guards right now.

Did notice that Bub got to his right hand more last night than he did against Florida. And I think he made a more conscious effort to try to take it to the rim, with mixed success, though he probably could have gotten one or two more whistles than he got (but he’s a freshman and that will happen). So he is adjusting, but it’s a process.
