I know nobody likes it but if Pitt doesn't make the NCAA or NIT what about playing in the CBI for game and tournament experience.
It worked for Dixon. He took a 17-16 BIg East team .Won the tournament (finished 22-17) and followed it up the next year with a NCAA tournament bid and almost top 25 finish.

If I’m not mistaken, for the last three years (and maybe four), no P5 team has played in the CBI.

I think the situation for us to play in the CBI might be better than 11-12, but I still don’t think we should do it.

A major D1 team will never play in the CBI again. Mid-majors even turn it down for the CIT

Mostly Agree.

I wouldn't want it unless it could help put our final record at least 0.500. To make that feasible we would need at least 2-3 more ACC wins including the ACC tourney, IMHO. That isn't looking too promising at the moment.

I'd ask the boys and let them decide. Do you want to play more basketball, or not?

I partially agree with you as the last 3 years it has been mostly lower level teams but there seems to be a MAC & A10 teams.
However in 2014 there were several major and mid major teams (including Penn State & Texas A & M ).
So what you are saying is a young, struggling Pitt team should turn it down if asked because it plays in a major conference. Isn't that kinda arrogant (of the team and fans) ?

If we could, I'd want it to happen, just because I'd like extra Pitt games to watch on TV for my personal entertainment, no bigger reason than that, I'd watch a crappy Pitt team in the CBI over the actual NCAA Tourney.
