CBS Sports, Listen to this interview, Pitt prepared to Load it up

"Monumental splash" sets the bar pretty high, but something that is necessary. As was pointed out in the interview, losing our Big East recruiting pipelines has really hurt so we need someone that can overcome that, and that is going to take $.

"Win at all costs" is something I can do without. I'm not suggesting Pitt be prudish on the level that I think we have been run under the prior administration, if for no other reason that I think the NCAA is a feckless joke, but I never want the embarrassment of something like UNC, Baylor, or PSU.

Agreed with the part of winning at all costs. We still need to hold integrity. I think that was more in the talk of the moment than reality.

Cool. How does that make your assertion that it will only cover the new coach's buyout and not leave Pitt in the black? I know what Dixon's buyout was. Almost every buyout you can think of is lower. Even if the buyout for Dixon was lowered, it is likely to be higher than anything Pitt has to pay for another coach.

Obviously you are unbelievably biased on this subject (why? I have no idea) but your logic is way off base.
But you have no idea what Dixon's buyout became only that Barnes said it was negotiated. How much is Sean Miller's buyout?

I know what Dixon's buyout was and know that Pitt wouldn't completely fold on his buyout, so it is likely they received a very significant amount of money that far, far exceeds any buyout they would have to pay for a new basketball coach.

I know it is far more than Sean Miller's buyout. His buyout is $500K. His monetary incentive to stay (instead of disincentive to leave) is in a longterm retention bonus structure, which has been discussed at length on here.

Sounds like a good deal for Pitt then. Hope it works out.

Yep. He has all the leverage in Wichita. I don't think he is coming to Pitt and probably won't even be contacted, but it just shows how off base some of the JIG's are. They are bigger Jamie fans than Pitt fans. Crazy to me.

Why is it that some posters here have to resort to saying something inflammatory? You correctly proved your point regarding the buyout and I appreciated the information, that's why I asked you because I didn't know. But let's get one thing clear: you don't know me or anything about me. Have a good night.

Don't try to pull that crap. You are shouting all over the board that Jamie was pushed out and then are trying to say people are crazy for thinking Pitt would have money for a good hire. However, the track record is Jamie does this consistently and finally got called on it by Barnes. You claim the buyout for a new coach would eat up the significant cash TCU had to shell out for Dixon without having even the slightest clue on the climate. Literally, no clue. Sorry, but someone doing that clearly has an agenda. And you didn't do any of that questioning the situation. You did it matter of fact and made it clear you thought anyone who actually was being logical and had an idea of the climate was crazy and would essentially get what they asked for because they were the ones who were blind.

You might be a solid poster and good Pitt fan otherwise, but you obviously were blind/blinded here.

And like I mentioned earlier, none of the "board self mods" who call out others for every little thing questioned her at all for this nonsense. If it was me or some others I'd get called out non-stop for spreading false rumors and other crap. Just comical.

Only a few know what really went down, and they're not on this board. However, I doubt Barnes and Gallagher agree to negotiate the buyout so readily UNLESS they already have someone in mind and a strong idea as to that someone's interest in the job.

It's clearly Mike Haywood.

First, she doesn't have a history of being a troll, so probably people gave her some leeway. Second, I don't think what she posted was that outrageous. Even the media said it didn't appear Barnes tried too hard to fight it. Maybe Dixon wasn't "pushed" out, but he certainly could have been nudged. If he wasnt at all, then the Starkey article you posted makes less sense.

Everyone posts that the new admin wants to win. Big. They wanted their own guy. It's possible that they and Dixon did not see eye to eye on a good many things, and forced Jamie's hand. Jamie left on his own accord, I don't dispute that, but to think Barnes and Galley stood by helpless to stop it is not very likely. It sounded like they didn't mind it, perhaps it was a very clever chess move. You have to understand, Steve P notwithstanding, many of these people are smart.

Maybe it's me, but in Barne's news conference, what he was describing as attributes that he is looking for in a new coach sounded more like jabs at Jamie Dixon. Let me re-phrase that. Not that Barne's was taking jabs, but what he was saying acted as a window into his thoughts on Jamie as a Coach and what he would like in a coach moving forward. In other words, he felt that Jamie fell short in some areas and it was time to move on. So my opinion is that Barnes supported Jamie in public, did not always see eye to eye with him behind closed doors. Barnes was handcuffed by the contract, and when the TCU job opened up, Barnes and Dixon knew that the time was now for everyone to start anew.

So "pushed out" may be wrong terminology, but not far off. But in my opinion, there was an opportunity and Barnes and Dixon knew it.
