Champagnie gets snubbed

The whole squad did, X goes from preseason to nothing in all ACC voting but that was deserved.

Penny getting screwed for half of a season from Cole Anthony is pretty lame though.
I was surprised Champ didn't get an all freshmen honor. But I didn't look at who made it.
But those awards mean little to me.
This team obviously needs pain to grow in any significant manner.
Im kind of glad zero individual awards were given to any of them.

I have not seen the list of players selected, but do you really think that Champagnie is better than Anthony?

I don’t believe I said that. I also don’t believe a player playing half the season should be in the awards race. I wouldn’t award Zion rookie of the year in NBA over Morant. It’s rookie of the year, not half year.

You are right, you didn't say that. Anthony - who played in 20 games - did receive the 2nd highest number of votes, so it doesn't seem that he took a spot from Justin.

I get it but we were one of the worst teams in the ACC and lost our last 7 games. Media isn't going to give our players honors with that record and how we finished. It is what it is.

I don't really have any beef with putting Cole Anthony there because he's been very good when healthy but to have an incredibly inefficient chucker from a losing team like Nolley and a 20 minute per game player like Williams (who has been good in those minutes, to be fair) over Champagnie is pretty inexcusable.

The problem, of course, is that we tanked the end of the season while FSU finished strong so that always matters in these things. Just recency bias problems.

13-9 Edit: As a follow up fun fact, even with his injury Anthony still played more ACC minutes than Williams did (57.4% to 52.8%).

He should have been ahead of Anthony and Williams. Complete BS
Williams is the only guy on that list that Champ has a beef with, and I think Champ was more deserving.

Anthony is probably the 2nd best PG in the country and his numbers are stellar. I think he qualifies.

If we are basing it on potential, then is James Wiseman in consideration for newcomer of the year?

Bottom Line - You should not be in consideration unless you play in the large majority of the games.

Honors are nice , but I’d rather see that he uses this as an inspirational tool to improve . If he improves his shot and works on his quickness and strength he has the opportunity to become a special player . Work hard young man !

I got attacked for this on Twitter but I still think Champagnie should have made ACC All Freshman over Williams

For
- Points (12.2 vs 9.2)
- Rebounds (7.2 vs 4.0)
- Win share (3.6 vs 2.5)
- Williams doesn't start, plays on a really talented team, and isn't asked to do as much

Against
- Efficiency (49.8% vs. 45.5%)
- Williams plays on a really talented team that won a lot more games

It's a beauty contest. Champagnie got snubbed because we went on a losing streak. It's too bad, because he was deserving.

My problem is w/ Nolley and not Williams. Williams is a stud. Nolley, as 13-9 put it, is a chucker and his number in the second half of the season and most of ACC play were way down from how he started the year.

Patrick Williams is also a much, much better defender than Champagnie. I really don't have a problem with Williams getting chosen instead because he's a better overall player.

Really, it's just a tough year for Justin. Anthony, Stanley and Carey are inarguably better, Williams is more complete and Nolley is his team's talisman.

If you take anybody off of the list for Justin, it's probably Nolley, but I think that's recency bias at work because of how terrible he's been over the past month.

I’d say 20 games with Anthony’s numbers is more than potential. That and watching him play, he’s obviously special.

But I understand there’s no reasoning with you and certain others on this board.

Even though Nolley is a high volume shooter he’s a scorer with a high average. For an all-freshman team they’re always going to give it to a freshman who’s top 10 in scoring average in the ACC.

I don't know the defensive stats but Champagnie looked lazy at times on defense and was out position too much. And I saw him not closing out on shooters quickly or helping on basketball drives. Defensively I think is an area he can really improve on.
