Champagnie

I wanna be the first poster in history hat in hand to admit he was wrong ;). I’m very happy to be wrong, he is a nice looking freshmen
I don’t think you were really wrong per se. Didn’t you just confirm, as did I, that there was indeed an injury? Beyond that, there were several who believed it could have season ending.

I had heard season ending, torn ACL is what they told me.
Also, they have not applied for a waiver for Horton. I doubt his case would’ve been very strong, but interesting nonetheless.

Let the sprain heal up , no need to put him in if he isn't ready.
I agree with this except for one thing. If he is needed game 1 vs FSU and can give 10-15 mins or ThAts what his role will be let him play game 1. Then rest up. If we can steal that game could be difference between NIT and NCAA.

I think the other advantage of this is u can still preserve medical redshirt exception. So play him v FSU and steal one when Bunny Colvin doesn’t have the troops ready. This experiment is my personal Hamsterdam

Fu used to operate from the scrub sink. The Fellows are doing a lot of the work in tandem with the Attending Surgeons

Freddie Fu once gave me his # and told me call him if a certain type of product came in.
So I called him when it did, but he yelled at me, said he was in China, and not to call him.

I just got done watching Capels interview and I'm pretty sure he was saying "No" to the question of whether he was limited and then after that he said he'll play. It was a little tough to tell bc Craig and Capel sort of talked over each other but I think coach said he'll be playing Wednesday

I got the same impression from the Capel video interview.

Also from interview—

—Capel concerned about how well we will rebound. This is consistent w/ reports from the Maryland secret scrimmage that our rebounding was weak and where Drumgoole was our leading rebounder—Capel said it was a good for the kid but not a good thing for the team overall for him to be the leading rebounder.
—Likes the quality of team depth.
—Really likes the length and ability to rebound and score that Champagnie brings
—Holding out some degree of possibility that Chukwuka might return at some point in the season.

From the separate XJ interview—

—We will press full court a lot. Not surprising statement (pressed often last year), but coupled with Capel liking our depth, it may mean we will press even more than last season.

—XJ believes Brown will be more effective due to improved hands and being more aggressive in dunking more often (instead of not always going at the rim strongly as we saw last season).

Can we break a zone? - I think that will go a long way. Yes we had our rebounding woes at times, but I felt inability to break zone really led to scoring droughts. Yes rebounds and second chances help, but not constantly facing a zone would do wonders. Any idea on who that guy may be. Last year, we really didn't have one.

Champagnie may be a key to being able to attack zones effectively. Capel's description of his skills suggests he could be the ideal player to be effective in attacking the zone from the high post (foul line and elbows)---where Ellison was not able to be effective last season.

He is described as long (for his height), shoots well and has the ability to attack the hoop. Outside shooting by Drumgoole and Murphy should also help---as well as any 3-ball shooting % improvement we might see out of Johnson and McGowens.

Overall, my guess is that we will be better vs zones. How much better is the question though, IMHO.

Champagnie & Coulibaly both will help.

Yep. JWF was really the biggest offensive threat against Syracuse's zone last year, and I'm bullish on Drumgoole's game and skillset replicating what JWF brought. If healthy, I think Champagnie is a better version of Ellison offensively, and Coulibaly brings a different dimension down low than anything we had last year.

From how he was described, I think Hamilton sounds like the type of guy who can also do a little damage from the middle of a zone. I don’t know how his passing skills are, but people seemed surprised by his touch and athleticism on here.

We traded:

Starters/Key Minutes
Kene for Hamilton
JWF for Murph

Reserves
N'Dir, Ellison, and Davis for Drumgoole, Champagnie, and Coulibaly

It's likely that Murph won't be as good as JWF was toward the end of last season, at least initially. But we have him for 2 years so he may develop and at least get close to that. Kene has a lot of heart but I just think Hamilton has much more experience and likely is more skilled at what we need from him.

There's no question that the 3 reserves are a key upgrade in size/length and ability. No disrespect to Ellison and Davis but they were just not P5 players and Drumgoole/Champagnie should be much more athletic and almost certainly more skilled. I'm positive they won't be limited to something like 2 PPG or whatever Davis was last year. I thought N'Dir was ok but he couldn't shoot and was hurt much of the year. We can probably spread his minutes out between XJ, McGowens, and Murph and be just fine. Coulibaly adds size that we desperately need.

Capel’s liking for Champagnie’s game makes me tend to believe he will be a guy who turns out better than his recruiting ranking—-more like a 4 star than the 3 star he was rated.

That's why this doesn't make you "wrong" - you just said what you heard. The kid got better. Time changes a lot of things. Keep posting any info and let the chips fall where they may

In fact, he was very right at the time. Capel in his u-tube video mentioned that he also thought it was an ACL tear when it happened. Then, he said after the 3 week wait for all swelling to go away protocol was completed it was only then that it was diagnosed as a sprain and not an ACL tear.
