Check out this classy tweet by Fittipaldo

For one, you actually contact the person of interest before including a quote in an article, which was Mike White's mistake (again). Ray's shot at 17 year old HS players, basically saying Ford is going to fail at PITT, is a poor avenue for a journalist to follow. Ray shouldn't necessarily be suspended, but I would be very cautious in letting him anywhere near PITT for an extended period of time. He needs to focus his attention back to the pro sports teams he covers.

Seriously wonder what Ray's handle is on BWI.

The odd part is that Ray is usually very neutral on these types of topics, which makes the situation even more strange. I would expect it from some of the other goons at the PG, not Ray.

No matter how they try and hide it, the nitter comes out in them. Cook didn't attend PSU, but that doesn't stop him from taking shots at Pitt...

That's because he usually just sticks to covering the Steelers. Pretty rare for him to step away from that, for sure, but I guess that's why it sticks out so badly.

For what it's worth, #PittTwitter responded well. Proud of you guys.

Why should he be suspended? We need to stop acting like Penn State fans. This is what they do. And we need to stop in this country wanting to fire a person for saying something we don't like or agree with.
I can totally agree with that, but I would also totally agree with pulling both of their press credentials for Pitt games, including PSU.

No, he did not go to PSU. And quite frankly, I'm surprised that Ray tweeted that. It's really out of character for him as he is usually one of the less controversial writers in the area. I'm disappointed.

I met and spoke to Ray a number of times when he was the beat writer for Pitt Hoops, and I have to say that he was always very friendly and not controversial. I agree that it seems out of character, and it is indeed disappointing.

I am going to chalk it up to an attempt at humor that fell terribly flat.

So you walk into your buddy's place and wipe it on the rug?

Lol. No. Again, along the spectrum of controversial or antagonistic sports writers in Pittsburgh, Ray Fittipaldo is like white bread compared to most. You guys are acting like he needs to sacrifice his first born kid because of this. This one tweet was out of character for his writing and no matter what form of explanation or half hearted apology to Paris, his family, CalU, the Pitt Football program, or the ravenous throngs of Pitt supporters on the interwebs will he ever be forgiven.

Good Lord.

Donald Trump chalking up all of his stupid comments to sarcasm managed to be a more convincing mea culpa than what Fittipaldo put out. And Trump had people questioning if he even knew what sarcasm was after using it as an excuse.

I think Pitt should pull Ppg credentials. You can't have a journalist opening rooting for another team on our schedule being at practices and possibly turning over info.

Because he said a 17 year old kid wont make it at Pitt. Paris Ford is a kid, technically. If he said Damar Hamlin (assuming hes 18 now) will wind up at Cal, it in bad taste but not suspension-worthy.

The fact that so many grown men follow high school kids social media is so disturbing on many levels. Mike blue and white made it sound like a horrible spat. Kids always beef on twitter before and after games. At every school and almost every sport depending on the opponent.

These media guys are complete asswipes
They certainly appear to be in Pittsburgh, that's for sure. From what I've seen just by way of this board and the links people share, Pittsburgh has some of the most bush-league, small-time excuses for sports reporters I've ever seen, and this is a great example of it.

Exactly. The media in and around Hampton Roads, VA always pump up the local HS starts, as well as the state schools.

I don't think suspension worthy and the PPG probably loves the intent and the reaction. I think Pitt should be careful who they align with as media partners. If they wouldn't give special home team media access to the State College Tribune or whatever their local rag is, they should consider the PPG to be the same. The PPG is not the hometown media outlet for Pitt. They take shots at Pitt all the time. Time for Pitt to fire back. Media credentials for 10 September would be a good tool to use. Let these guys get tickets off Stubhub or cover the game from Bettis Grill. Don't give them free access to trash the team and program.

Pittsburgh sports media is trash. They are dumb on every level.

No joke, listening to the FAN one morning, they were talking about the scandal. Jeff Hathorne (sp) was asked if non Psu people should sling mud towards Psu. His exact first response was "there are always going to be HATERS out there that will put PSU down." He is a PSU guy, and Dunlap called him out on it and he started dancing around a bit about how some people need to let go of paterno, but his true feelings already were shown.

This is the sports director...at our flagship.

I am hoping the ACC network will have some talk shows that can talk PITT without the bull crap. I don't listen to the FAN and do not read PPG!

To be fair, I always thought Hathorn was always pro-Pitt. He even worked for the old Pitt Panthers Television on The Comcast Network and did an ok job.

Podcasts are your friend. I have 6 or 8 Pitt-related podcasts on my phone right now that I probably wont have time to listen to. There's plenty out there.

Its this. Especially locally, the child abuse scandal rooted out alot. And now this Pitt game also.

Did Ford say what White quoted him as saying? Then what difference does it make if he contacts him before writing the story? If a politician says something while giving a speech tonight does the reporter need to contact them directly before they write their story about it? What about if a business leader gives a talk where he says his company has to close some plants? Does the reporter need to contact him or her directly before writing their story?

If Ford didn't want anyone using his quotes against him, he shouldn't have put them up in a public forum. White quoted Ford accurately and completely. He doesn't owe Ford anything more than that.

Agree, he won't be coming our way. He thinks he's to big time for us, said that awhile ago.

1.) when and to who did Wade say he is too big time for Pitt? Is this another message board myth, like the one that posters say Wade's dad doesn't want him going to Pitt, but nobody can ever produce a quote?

2.) wade's a primadonna because he went back and forth with another local star who basically called his team a piece of shit? I think we all should be happy that both of them kept it on twitter and didn't turn to other methods of resolving their trash talk.

What's irked everyone about White is what's his motivation for writing a column describing a Twitter exchange between two high school kids? Has anyone else ever written a column describing a Twitter exchange between two high school kids? White's a sportswriter; what did his column have to do with sports?

So what can we expect in the future? A published account of a shouting match that White overheard between two young ladies on a local high school cheerleading squad?

I am sure the Pitt brass now knows that a local newspaper and will address it. What is strange are the attacks on the local college. I have no respect for that newspaper.

Except he has taken shots at Pitt via twitter before, someone posted his photo from the end of a Steelers blowout with a comment about it 'not being a Pitt game".
To be fair, I always thought Hathorn was always pro-Pitt. He even worked for the old Pitt Panthers Television on The Comcast Network and did an ok job.

He announced most of Pitt's basketball games that aired on ESPN3 just last year actually.

His motivation is that two of the best high school players in Western PA were arguing, and people want to read that kind of stuff. We have people here all the time posting what some potential recruit said on twitter. How is this any different?

I really don't care what these guys are saying on twitter. I've never looked at any high school athlete's twitter. But there are certainly lots of people who do care, and this board shows that all the time.

Its different in that he's a paid 'journalist' who's assumed to have better sources than most but is really just a crap biased blogger like you and me but with a bigger voice.

It's bad form and stupid of him. And it shows the natural bias against Pitt football by the Post Gazette. But it is not suspendable. Why are we always wanting to fire people? My god, I am glad a camera or tape recorder doesn't follow me around, and I am sure some tweets/posts aren't that flattering, should I be suspended too?

My connect tells me Wade's parents both think he is too good for Pitt and they like PSU and the big crowds. FWIW, this source was wrong on Boyd but right on Hudson.

HCPN will recruit well at the DB position so I am not worried if we miss a kid here and there. He has a track record of putting DBs in the NFL and smart parents understand the whole picture!

After the 2018 Class is complete

Whitehead
Ford
Hamlin
Garner
Coleman
Campbell
Miller
Raines
Hooker

-We don't even need Wade, and we sure as hell are not giving a 5'9 DB a free starting lineup pass with all that talent in the fold. That's the best future secondary in the country right there. Narduzzi is a defensive specialist. Maybe Wade isnt Pitt material, and our secondary is too big for Wade, size wise, and athletic ability wise. He sure didnt step up to even challenge Paris Ford, he just laid down and let Ford destroy his team instead of getting on his coaches ass to stop the bleeding from Ford killing them all game and telling his Coach to put him on Ford. Maybe Wade was scared of Ford beating him.... Ford beat the rest of his team like a rented mule.
