Clemson alum here! I will be visiting Pittsburgh for the first time for our game in a few weeks. We are staying in Lawrenceville at an Airbnb. Getting up there Thursday afternoon, playing golf Friday, game Saturday obviously and then fly back to SC Sunday morning.

My questions for the board are any recommendations for dining/things to do/places to see?

I could go without any long touristy events but don't mind the type of sightseeing that takes an hour or 2.

Shame both teams got mollywopped this past weekend and took some shine of the matchup. Was hoping for a 3:30 or night game to maybe squeeze in an extra 18 on gameday, but that's not happening with the nooner.

Thanks for any help

I'm coming up from SC with my son (we're Pitt fans) and his wife, a Clemson fan. We're staying at my brothers home in Lawrenceville as well. Lots of food options in L'ville and in the "Strip" which is the next area of Pittsburgh as you head to downtown. Go to Mt Washington for the views, Oakland is where Pitt is located. While Mexican restaurants are on every corner in SC, Italian ones are on every corner in Pittsburgh and do I miss them.

Also - Uber/bus/bike to town and take the free subway ("T") to the stadium.

If you are visiting Pittsburgh, the Cathedral of Learning on the Pitt campus and its nationality rooms are the #1 tourist attraction in the whole city in my opinion. Cant come to Pittsburgh for a college football game and not go there. While on campus, stay for the Pitt/WVU basketball game on Friday night.

Parkway through the fort Pitt tunnel to downtown, what a sight
The drive/Uber from the airport to Lawrenciville will take you through that tunnel..... so that's an easy one. It's honestly the best way to be introduced to Pittsburgh, especially at night or the late afternoon. No better entrance to a big town exists.

Y'all can roast me for this, but one of my all time favorite movies (shout out to my first true love, Emma Watson) is Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Which this is one of the final scenes of the movie...

Needless to say, we'll be going through the Fort Pitt Tunnel for sure

Lawrenceville/Strip has some great restaurants. Highly recommend Morcilla.
Morcilla looks awesome. If anyone else has any other dining rec's keep em comin. We'll be eating out pretty much 3 meals a day. I'll probably yelp whats nearby the Airbnb that's convenient for breakfast/coffee

Lawrenceville has a ton. It's honestly the neighborhood in the city for people over the age of 30 or so for a night out. Just walk down Butler street and you will find something.

Interestingly enough, Lawrenceville and Butler street was kind of a dump 20 years ago. It's an old part of town that has been revitalized organically without bulldozing everything down and rebuilding new. As such, it's still a little gritty which is part of the charm.

Didn't realize the director is an Upper St. Clair grad. Makes sense.

I'm probably going to get some pushback, but give some consideration to dining on Mt. Washington. Quite a few good restaurants, albeit pricey, but first-time visitors (especially in the evening) are blown away by the view.

Italian, Alla Familia is one of the best in the city.

Falling Water, baby! You can bike the GAP Trail to there or, if you really want to test your quad strength, take 51 to a steep section of 40.

We are staying right off Butler. Looks like tons of restaurants and shops around the Airbnb. Excited for that.

For some context I'll have my 76 year old father with me. There will be no cycling on this trip haha
Where are you playing golf? Surprisingly, most courses are in pretty good shape for early November.
We are gonna hustle over to Quicksilver and play 9+ til dark Thursday (We land at 12 and 1 respectively). Playing private Friday

Virgil Sollazzo agrees. Try the veal.

Follow up to my visit...

I LOVED Pittsburgh. The people were incredibly friendly. Outstanding service everywhere. People waving for you to turn in traffic, etc.

We enjoyed outstanding meals at Piccolo Forno (Thursday), The Parlor (Friday) and Fig and Ash (Saturday). Staying right off Butler Street we bar hopped around Lawrenceville and had no shortage of places to explore.

Fort Pitt Tunnel ✅
Played Oakmont ✅
Clemson W ✅

The game itself was.... definitely something. I'm not here to tell y'all that Clemson is a great team. We're not. Thrilled to be 8-2 and technically still have a chance to make the playoffs. Most Pitt fans probably feel like they should've won. I feel like we probably should've pulled away when it was 17-7 for (what felt like) 2.5 hours. I felt like a major gaffe was Narduzzi not being prepared to call timeout at the end of the game. He wasted 4+ seconds of the last 30 running to get that timeout in wayyyyy late.

Added to the bucket list is a Steelers game I'll have to come back for someday in the future.

All in all I hope to be back someday sooner than later. We aren't scheduled to come back til 2029 and Pitt comes to Clemson in 2028 which is a shame. Anyways thanks again for all the rec's and the discussion.

I have always thought that a game weekend trip to Pittsburgh is a hidden gem for visiting fans. Glad you enjoyed it (not so glad that Saturday went your way...but otherwise yes )

I had a great trip with my son as we took on the basketball and football games and the steelers game. First time in Pittsburgh and I loved the city. It was clean and felt safe. Weather was good and spent a lot of money in pitt gear. Special shout out to Brendan from the panther lair. He met us for a couple beers before basketball and was a wealth of knowledge about the city. Also invited us to his tailgate and we had a great time. It was a weekend my son and I will never forget. I'll be back with my better half next year.

Played Oakmont?...... well damn. The football game sounds small in comparison. Glad you had a good time up here. You sure packed a lot in!
