You are starting to see what Capel values in a C.
Kid dunks & blocks everything in sight. Raw athlete with tons of upside & 7’6” wing span. If somehow JC were able to get him to be a 2019 that would be great. Because after this summer I think the big boys will finally start offering him.
Kid is very athletic and has huge upside. But my god, he is really unpolished, almost comically so. He is going to need a ton of developmental time. Would love to get him, because I think our coaches could turn him into a player. But no way would he be ready to play right away.
Well he is a junior in high school. In fact for a big guy he is damn impressive at that age.Kid is very athletic and has huge upside. But my god, he is really unpolished, almost comically so. I’m sure most of the young men on Pitts bb team are good guys , unfortunately most of them are not talented enough to play in the ACC. Some people on this board are more subtle than others !Your ignorance is obviously your bliss. However your extreme insults to members of the Pitt basketball team is nothing more than a disgrace but a spiteful little person who obviously was rejected by many many people because of your failings in many regards. /so take your hate somewhere else. /you are truly a disgusting person and certainly not a Pitt fan.

Omoruyi is on his 2nd unofficial to UConn this weekend. We might need to pick up the pace on this kid
Those are horrible highlights.

Remember--the 5 man as a primary piece of the scoring offense is a thing of the past. The bulk of the scoring comes from the backcourt and wings, the 4 has evolved into a stretch position, and the 5 man primarily needs to be able to rebound and protect the rim. The new generation of post men are short on skills but long on athleticism, bounce, wingspan, energy and agility. Thus this whole generational college basketball trend of African born big men with funny names, limited basketball skills and incredible length and bounce.Kid is very athletic and has huge upside. We already have raw bigs, I think raw, ATHLETIC bigs that can actually impact the opponent on the glass and defensively would be a major improvement over what we have now. Pitino at Louisville was ahead of the curve on this. He always had a bunch of those 6'10 pogo sticks with huge wingspans in the frontcourt who could hardly dribble, but who contested every shot in the paint, choked off the opposing bigs, and wiped the glass clean.

That's just it. Capel can recruit this type of player if given time. We've seen relationships win out over programs and a program's need. Young players build trust these days as they are separated from their families and support groups at a young age to play ball far away. Comes down to relationships or the dreaded "handlers" to reel in great prospects. Capel is just now entering a period when he will have started to build relationships with kids and their parents.Nice player, but with UK and others likely to get involved, I wouldn’t spend too much time on this one.

I consider both T. Brown and Kene to be raw big men from a skills (or lack thereof) standpoint, and not athletic enough to play ACC basketball. If they were exceptional athletes, they could really help this team. But they’re D2 athletes at best."We already have raw bigs, . . ." We (meaning Pitt) does? Huh?
We don't have any such players on the roster at this time and we need a couple of them!
.
Talk about hyperbole!I consider both T. Brown and Kene to be raw big men from a skills (or lack thereof) standpoint, and not athletic enough to play ACC basketball. If they were exceptional athletes, they could really help this team. But they’re D2 athletes at best.
Owtie, I 'd suggest it is you who needs to deal with reality. I'm not singling you out personally. There are plenty of posters on here more rabid in calling for cheating than you. But, you consistently return to the topic that we have to break the rules to level the playing field.Dear Heather Lyke, Patrick Gallegher and the rest of the leadership council. You are seeing the results of college basketball recruiting when you are trying to follow the rules. There is no need to even entertain these types of kids if you aren't willing to go under the table. Deal with reality.

But, we've had polls in various Pitt forums. Even in these gatherings of these most pro-Pitt athletics fans, the vote has always been AGAINST cheating. The last one on the Lair was 2:1 against.
Pitt has consistently declined to hire those known or rumored to break the rules. Capel made a major point of hiring only assistants who he knew very well and explicitly trusted.
This isn't a place where there is intense pressure to win at any cost. That's not who we are. I realize that we may never again win a national title in a major sport.
I'm OK with that. The 1976 national title was nice, but it didn't change my life , or the lives of virtually any Panther fans.
That's reality here.
We can be a good team playing by the rules. The process of becoming good will be slower and there may well be a ceiling. It is what it is.
To me and to many others, being good, and doing it inside the rules is sweeter than being better but cheating to get there.
Harve, I heard Ed Bouchette today and he was completely non plussed over the Steelers moving up to take Devin Bush. He actually said "you know, Chuck Noll would never have done this".Owtie, I 'd suggest it is you who needs to deal with reality. I'm not singling you out personally. Except it's proven we won't continue to draw even 35-40k in football or even half the Pete in basketball by playing "by the rules" (and are they really rules when the 'governing body' of the sport doesn't govern by them?). This isn't like baseball, where Bob Nutting gets richer by tanking on purpose. There’s a place in the world for people who always play by the rules . There’s even some games like golf were a competitor even calls penalties on themselves that no one else even saw . Unfortunately D1 college bb and Fb aren’t in that world . Even the way those games are played were players and coaches constantly try to deceive the refs or officials and cry and scream when they’re caught .
Pitt can be straight and draw 35-40k in Fb and 7-8k in bb or they can be creative within reason and sell many more seats and pocket some serious change ...tough choice for them , but not for a lot of other schools .

It used to be Pitt was merely forsaking bigger profit and political power in the city by refusing to win (and that's what it is). But football crowds are plummeting, some of the worst i experienced, week in and out, last year. Even during a surprising winning streak.
I called the ticket office last month and easily got a seating and parking upgrade this year to specific desired seats and lot that they regularly did not have available before. Yes, I know, no PSU or ND this year plays a part, but that itself is an indictment... on its own merits, nobody wants the product.
And hoops ... crowds were bad last year, yet still probably better than expected because of a new coach. He gave some hope with X and Trey. But it seems clear he's striking out like JD did now, can't even attract a low grade big man transfer since we wont get dirty... which will ensure another horrid conference record. And savvy fans know this, and those even middling crowds of last will be worse. Fans don't just come out blindly to cheer for Dear Old Pittsburgh. It ain't this or cow tipping here. There are actually attractive entertainment alternatives here.
I know the admin only cares about the Bike Lane sports, and the conference money allows for those, but how long can it continue with forlorn empty stadium and arena in the real sports? Because that's what it's descending to.
Or if you aren't even going to pretend to compete, at least try to be at the forefront of reform of some kind? Lead all the other have not / will nots against the cheating factory schools, if not willing to join em. But, sh*t, we wouldn't even stand up and decline to play Penn State, for freaking raping children. We gleefully added games to play into their PR, and still beg em to play now that they came back (since the NCAA gleefully caved) and they went back to their old ahole ways.
So, if we're not doing what it's proven to be needed to win (and losing money because of it) but not willing to fight the evil, either, just what the hell IS the purpose of having these sports? Just get the hell out of the dirty business.

I'm not saying Pitt NEVER cheated. I was on campus during much of the Majors and Sherrill eras. I knew a lot of those guys and had a pretty good idea "where the bodies were buried."Harve, I heard Ed Bouchette today and he was completely non plussed over the Steelers moving up to take Devin Bush. He actually said "you know, Chuck Noll would never have done this".
Curmudgeons refuse to change. Most people polled also didn't vote for Donald Trump, yet he's the President. It's funny how people just constantly look back at Dorsett, Green, May, Covert, Fralic, Marino, Jackson, et al....Charles Smith and Jerome Lane, yet people are against "cheating", I look at it like "I am against abortion". Of course, nobody is FOR abortion. But when it comes down to life realities, people react completely different than when it becomes real.
Sorry, you are wrong. Way wrong.
The Pete was sold out playing it clean when we had great coaches getting time to build
