Coaches getting fired

Florida State just fired HC Willie Taggart. Syracuse fired it's DC Brian Ward. Let the fun begin. Plus Saban going to Rutgers of course.

Babers must be feeling enough heat to play the blame game already.

I watched the Orange play the first half yesterday. They looked lethargic and disinterested. Guess it was the DC's fault?

The Taggart firing wasn’t a surprise to me until I saw the pricetag on the buyout. $17 million! Who is footing that bill at a state university? Clearly the boosters put some pressure on the administration and ponied up the cash. This highlights the disparity in revenue even in the ACC. How would they agree to that buyout in the 1st place?

As for Babers, what a difference a year makes. I think he is a solid coach but hitting the transition point with a mix of his recruits and old recruits. I have to believe Pitt is an easier place to recruit players to than Syracuse. And we have enough of a challenge. It would be nice to see that program be competitive in the ACC. Great football tradition there.

Or even consider hiring a guy with his mediocre record. FSU has the money to hire almost anyone and they go after a HC who had a record of 47-50.

16-20 at Western Kentucky
24-25 at South Florida
And
7-5 at Oregon

Not exactly a surprise he wasn’t going to be the winner Fisher and Bowden was.

Very much like when Pitt hired Stallings, thinking he was going to pick up right where Dixon left off, even though they could see Stallings had won 20 games in only one of his previous four years of coaching.

Yep, and the money somehow got ponied up here to replace Stallings with Capel. I'm still not sure how that worked financially, but I will gladly take it.

Yeah........so what I hear...my "sources" are that FSU is not getting some of the same interest as they thought...

Also, USC's job will come open and that is a better job than Florida State.

Also, likely Arkansas (why, does it matter?) and even possibly Michigan State.

Not a good year to be filling a coach opening.

I actually think "The Haymaker" Haywood would have been a good coach.
The man did a great job at Miami of Ohio ( Bens U), and was hungry to be a D1/P5 coach.

Keep Your Hands to Yourself the Georgia Satellites.

lol, he flamed out at the directional Texas school, and he was demoted at ND by Weiss when he was the offensive coordinator. He caught lightning in a bottle his one year at Miami. Would have been a colossal disaster.

I think there are good fits for all of those schools readily available, except Arkansas, but who gives a crap about them. USC will get Meyer if they want him. FSU gets Bob Stoops. If he declines, I think Mark Stoops is a good hire. He is landing good recruits at freaking Kentucky and has them in bowl games most years. When he was the DC at FSU they were dominant. He knows how to recruit Florida and the dirty $outh. Michigan State can get Fickell from Cincy.

I am not sold on Mark Stoops. There are a bunch of other guys they should go after before him.

Actually, that was his second year at Miami when he won the MAC. What got people to notice Haywood was a late-season nationally-televised showdown with Temple (then in the MAC) for the East division title. At the time, everyone knew Wannstedt was on his way out, and based how he had turned Temple around, Al Golden was widely believed to be the frontrunner for that impending opening. Well, with the cameras in the locker room, Haywood delivered a pregame speech that would have made Rockne proud, then during the game proceeded to coach the pants off Alfred the Great. Thus, we had a new frontrunner . . . and the rest is history.

Well, first, his buyout was likely negotiated down under the threat of litigation. Second, the loss in revenue from fans flocking away probably exceeded the buyout.

Interesting, I knew Steve P wanted Golden. Probably would have done about the same as Chryst or any of the others, then bolted for PSU. I think his act would have worked better here than Miami.

Steve P should have had a plan B and plan C.
He didn't, this caused the confusion, and coach merry go round for the PITT program.
Good AD's would have done better!

When is the goof at Maryland being shown the door, after next year?
Did you hear the TV guys during the game Saturday, they acted like he was the 2nd coming and would have Maryland in the top of the big before you know it.

Mark Stoops would be a very solid for for FSU. Not only is he a proven coach and recruiter but he knows the culture and program very well. He'd be a good fit and a safe hire at a time when they really just need to regain footing and some stability. Can't afford to whiff on the next hire or they could quickly become the 4th or 5th most relevant team in the state.

Stoops cashed in last year so I can't see why he would bail but seems to be a lot of smoke. Arkansas unless they have Norvell under lock and key will probably give Morris another year. The problem this year not a lot of coaches are itching to make a move

To be fair, his overall record is fairly misleading. He did a remarkable job at WKU. The Hilltoppers were on a 20 game losing streak before he took over. He also did a fine job rebuilding USF. Oregon went from a 4 win season to 7 in his one year there. Throw in the fact that he is from Florida and has a reputation as an excellent recruiter and the hire made sense.

Jimbo left FSU in worse shape than Urban Meyer left UF. Too many people tend to gloss over the fact that Jimbo left a dumpster fire at FSU. That said, Taggert hasn't shown any tangible improvement in his short time there , and their fans aren't showing up for games so this is where they are at.

FWIW, LSU lost the Tom Herman sweepstakes and ended up with a guy that had a 16-27 record as HC. Go figure.

I just think he was a motivated guy, would have done well but you information is good information.

People seem to forget Haywood got another shot at Pitt and failed miserably at Texas Southern. His lifetime record is a cool 18-40 with that one lone winning season.

He had absolutely no business being considered for a P5 job, and had he stayed out of trouble would’ve sunk the program to new lows.

I heard some of it, and it was pathetic. They are either really stupid or have an agenda because this guy is one of the absolute worst head coaches I’ve ever seen.

If you take out the Rutgers game they have been outscored 273-59 in conference play, and that’s about to get much, much worse.

If we’re talking about being fair... How about how unfair is it that he took a huge salary to perform like one of the best and he wasn’t anywhere close to it.

No disrespect to Taggert... but there is a huge difference between a coach who is a “presumably solid” hire and who’s had a few seasons as HC that were better than average and therefore “might possibly” be able to do even better... and a coach who is a “proven winner” with a record that supports that claim with multiple and consistent 10+ win seasons.

FSU is willing to pay for the best of the best- Taggart got paid a salary to be one of best and yet he was not good at all in two years.

Mike Locksley - Another failure that was obvious to see before it happened.
They should have hired his brother Robin!
