10. James Franklin, Penn State (Last Week – 9)
Franklin has stabilized with back-to-back wins over Minnesota and Maryland. But it was Minnesota and Maryland. The Lions get a third straight game in Happy Valley this week against No. 2 Ohio State, and a chance to really dispatch a statement. After this week, things will settle down for Franklin, who’ll close out the regular season with Purdue, Iowa, Indiana, Rutgers and sagging Michigan State. The schedule lines up nicely to finally get over the seven-win hump, which would pretty much guarantee a return for Year 4.

8. Rich Rodriguez, Arizona (10)
It’s going to be a long and difficult offseason for Rodriguez, who’ll likely be retained but will have a ton to prove in 2017. Since peaking with 10 wins and a Pac-12 South title in 2014, the Wildcats have flat-lined under this staff. Arizona went 7-6 last season, and is now 2-5 and riding a nasty four-game losing streak after getting hammered by USC in Tucson, 48-14. While the Cats were forced to pull the redshirt off rookie quarterback Khalil Tate, they weren’t competing with the surging Trojans even if Anu Solomon and Brandon Dawkins were available.

7. Brian Kelly, Notre Dame (NR)
What a mess. Kelly isn’t just losing in his seventh season in South Bend; this 2-5 start is every bit as ugly as it sounds. He appears to have lost control of his team, his motivation and an increasing chunk of his fan base. DeShone Kizer, a very good quarterback, is regressing under Kelly, prompting former Irish quarterback Jimmy Clausen to publicly declare that the sophomore ought to get out of Dodge at the end of the year. This situation could get worse before it improves, but the ND administration realizes the next Lou Holtz or Ara Parseghian isn’t necessarily available. In other words, cooler heads ought to prevail, even though this situation has unraveled surprisingly fast.

3. Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech (4)
There’ll be no votes of confidence or talk of a contract extension for defeating Georgia Southern, but Johnson desperately needed this game to stop the proverbial bleeding. Saturday’s 35-24 victory snapped a three-game losing streak and inched the Yellow Jackets above the .500 mark with five games left. Johnson needs two in the final five games with Duke, Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Georgia to return to the postseason, but 6-6 and a middling bowl game won’t guarantee a reprieve from new AD Todd Stansbury.

Franklin saved his job by beating Minnesota and Maryland. That gives him 4. Purdue and Rutgers wouldn't win the WPIAL so there's 6 guaranteed. Say a loss to OSU. PSU can win the other 3 (home vs Iowa, MSU @ IU) and legitimately go 9-3. They'd be the worst 9-3 team ever but they'd be 9-3 playing in a big-time bowl game (maybe Citrus or Outback).

Rich Rod is a train wreck. From having Michigan eat his WVU buyout to his hair brained offense and nonexistent defense in Ann Arbor. This is his final coaching job.

People who write that Franklin's on the hotseat are doing it for hits on their site.No way was Franklin getting fired after the 2016 season even if he went 0-12.Everyone that knows anything about Psu football knew 2017 is the key to Franklin longevity at PSU.The guy that wrote this article thanks you for your support of him or her.

And the results will be the same in 2017 for Franklin. And when they are the same, then he'll get terminated. Especially when osu and mich put a job on them this year and next year. And if Pitt embarrisses psu again next year in front of a possible whiteout, then Frankin is really asking for the door

The article included ND, UTexas, Auburn and ACC Teams, Franklin is in full control of his Destiny OSU, IOWA, MSU loom but not as Big as before the Season, but Purdue, Indiana, and Rutgers look like Big Wins.
Looks like 8-4, 7-5, 6-6 at worst!

Bow hunter go back up into your treestand and meditate for a few months! All you ever contribute over on BWI is negativity on the Psu program and Franklin it gets tiresome over time.I guess you came over here because everyone on BWI has you on ignore?

Captain what really gets me is the people who write these articles don't know anymore than you or I.They get paid to write things that get people to click on their stories.Example PSU,Texas and ND all in one negative column equals lots of readers, results ???? for the writer.

Mark it down.

Holgerson if he has a big season will go to a Baylor or LSU. RichRod will come home.

Save this. Stamp this.

This should tell you how bad the B10 is outside of tOSU and Michigan. It would be criminal for that team to win 9 games. On the bright side they could lose to any or all of Iowa, Indiana or MSU.

I agree in part that they don't know anymore than many others Posters like you and some others that provide some good insights. However, they follow this more than and I can defer to them when they back it up, but you are more correct. I see these types of Rankings & Ratings as Weather Vanes and Info-Commercials into the State of the Programs.

Agree, some don't paid and are just AD Bloggers. However, on my Weather Vane Comparison these Articles are showing how the Winds are Blowing and if they can't cahnge Directions you end up like Hazell at Purdue!

Purdue has a problem much as Pitt had since 1996, Tiiller & Harris were brilliant QB & OC's and could win 7 to 8 games but seldom won over 9 games, and could not advance the Program.

These Football Programs President/Chancellors and Athletic Directors were part of the problem as well, not just the coaches. Purdue is a Basketball School and Pederson wanted that for Pitt, but now with B1G & ACC Money now can compete, but still learning how to rebuild the Football Programs and need Top Coaches now, and keep them too?

This is not easy with ULou below them with a great Coach, Notre Dame above them with the Historic Winning Program, and of course UM, OSU, MSU around them being the best right now in B1G, and then still compete with Indiana, Illinois, and Northwestern right with them picking up the dregs in leftover recruiting, it will take a Great Coach to turn around Purdue and they have not been able to pick one for Decades since Tiller that was like Harris a Good Coach without much support?

And if Pitt wins 9 games it a great accomplishment right because of their difficult schedule? If PSU wins 9 games it's an insult to football!I guess Ga Tech,Va,Syracuse,Villanova,Va Tech,Marshall and Duke are great teams and this makes Pitt's wins more important? This isn't exactly murderers row of college football? My God neither team is good.My personal opinion is Wvu would beat both teams this year and they will probably end up 8-4,maybe 9-3.We'll never know though we can only speculate.
Now the Rich Rod back to Morgantown next year gets a chuckle out of me.You guys don't spend much time down here do you.Ok hit me with the negative comments about Mo-town!As for Holgy leaving, that wouldn't shock me but Rich will not be here next year, book it!

Very good point, this is also is an indicated how not just Coaches are doing but impacting on the Programs.

I rate coaches 3 times a year myself just as a Hobby. One before, Mid-season and After season. It shows how the difficulties of taking on when Top programs do attract a top Elite Coach like OSU Meyers, Bama Saban, FSU Fisher, OU Stoops, and ND Kelly, and then how others react like UM's Harbaugh, UTexas, USC, and Miami.

And then the New Challengers with Elite Coaches but not as Elite Programs, like Clemson Swinney, Stanford 's Shaw, UNC's Fedora, ULou's Petrino, and TCU Patterson, and LSU's Miles.

This is why I view Penn State Franklin on a Fate Wait Listing, along with Holgrosen, Auburn, ND. and Texas because their Coaching & Program Weather Vanes are not just dependent on their own Winds of Coaching Changes, but how other Top Programs and growing Upcoming Coaches can make them more vulnerable easier with Gone With The Winds!

This is why i see Pitt's Pat Narduzzi being a far better coach than Franklin or Holgrosen with a rebuilding Program and I believe Coach Pat is not leaving Pitt unlike those two, and now add Kelly too.

Kelly has a far tougher job now to stay alive, he has a terrible coaching staff that can recruit like Penn State Franklin but can't compete on the Top Elite Level with UM, OSU, and even tougher as better coaches at MSU, Iowa, ULou, UNC, FSU, and Clemson for ND.

Now that Big-12 did not expand, WVU is now back on the Long Distance Mountain of Isolation Big-12 Program and will continue to struggle and CoachRod is burning out again in the Tucson Sonora Desert.

Very much like Jackie Sherrill did at A&M and Missy State. CoachRod made a big mistake going to Michigan much like Sherrill that left Pitt, and had those Programs rebuilt with great Booster Support until they left and failed elsewhere in being judged on a higher level without a net on the wire.

Same with Franklin leaving Vanderbilt, he has a far tougher job in beating UM & OSU, unless he can do this week? He is up against Iowa, MSU, Wisky, NU, PITT, and NW too still this and next few years too, his Weather Vane is not blowing on his own, but his Fate Wait relies on his Moorhead Coaching more than his own. Even if Moorhead succeeds he will be gone and if he fails both will be Gone with the Wins?

Unless and until they can beat Michigan, OSU, and even Pitt now? Winning 10 games is a must in 2017, and i don't think Franklin can do it nor in 2018 or 2019?

Just a Hunch Analysis on his Fate Wait not a Guess.
