Does anyone think Steve Sarkisian is a big upgrade over Tom Herman? Does it justify the $15 mil buyout, which could be well over $20 mil after staff buyouts are paid.

What about Bryan Harsin replacing Gus Malzahn for a buyout of $21 mil?

I don't think Marshall is going to do a lot better than Doc Holliday, but at least his contract was expiring by June 30th and they didn't have to eat a big contract.

The Texas move was really surprising how quickly that went down. Why the rush on pulling the trigger on Sark? What other schools were courting him?

I don’t. 🤷‍♂️. But it’s not my $$$$ and not my decision. Boosters who donate big $$$$ are typically not the most patient or rational people. TX and Auburn are likely good examples of that.

Yeah. I'm not even sure it's about wins & losses with some of these changes. From what I've heard, some Auburn boosters tried to push DC Kevin Steele in HC job there at Auburn. That just makes zero sense.

I guess Sark calling the plays that hung half a hundred on Jimbo made him attractive to the Whorns? Did Coach Mensa rub people the wrong way at Texas? I pretty much thought of him as a Texas guy as much time as he has spent in the Longhorn state.

I would not be shocked to see the Florida job open.

I think Mullen wants to go to the League

I agree. I really don't see Sark being any better and who knows about Harsin.

Change for the sake of change is rarely a good thing.

And yet most every fan base "gets tired" of not winning as many games as it thinks it should.

Texas is one of those places where the expectations and money don't meet up with reality. Most of the SEC goes that way, too. It's an embarrassment of riches that allows schools to just change coaches and hope to get lucky. Marshall is mind boggling. If you want someone with HC experience, they're coming from the lower ranks. That's a crap shoot at best.

I get that a lot of people get impatient with Pitt but I really don't know who you bring in without some risk.

This is exactly what happened, yeah. That and not being especially competitive with Oklahoma (maybe 1-4 in 4 years? Something like that?). Texas believes they should be the power in the Big 12.

Did anyone think there is a chance in hell of Dabo joining Trevor in Jacksonville? I could see it happening.

i will never understand why they didn't hire matt campbell from ISU. the dude just won the fiesta bowl, AT IOWA STATE. imagine what he could do with texas' resources.

You equate Dabo with Schianio? Really?

Dabo's players LOVE him. Schianio? Not so much.
Yeah I did. Dabo and him have the same Rah Rah personality. Works great with 18-22 year olds. Professionals, yeah that crap isn’t working. Dabo is a great college coach would be an unmitigated disaster as an NFL coach.

I could see Jacksonville being successful with Dabo and Lawrence. You’d have a franchise QB who is the leader of the team. He will set the tone for everyone else. A big part of the battle is already won.

Pete Carroll is a rah rah guy who makes it work.

If Sark stays sober and beats Oklahoma he will win the big 12 and the boosters will be happy. He is a great offensive mind, but it was the Texas big 12 defense that cost them games.

Yeah you can be a rah rah guy without being a douche. Schiano was a rah rah tough guy, which doesn't play well in the nfl for obvious reasons. I think Swinney is much more of a players coach who could probably turn it down more (like Carroll) in the NFL.

That would be interesting. He has a quirky personality and he pretty much speaks his mind. Myself, I like that, but I'm not sure how that would play out in with the media in a pro city.

That's the thing. With the big football factory schools, they can change coaches on whim, and it really has little effect on recruiting. It's not as easy at a school like Pitt. And with Pitt, you pretty much know they aren't going to shell out big money to pay a buyout and a big salary for a new HC & staff on top of that. That narrows the market down to coordinators, retreads, and former NFL coaches who have exhausted their marketability in the league.

From everything I've heard and read about Campbell, he would probably turn it down. He's a bit of a thorowback. I've heard he doesn't have an agent, lives in a modest house for his salary, and plans on coaching high school football later on in life. I would find it incredibly hard to believe that a lot of schools haven't kicked the tires in Ames a few times to gage his interest. In an age of hired mercenaries, (that's what most of them are in this day and age) I find that refreshing.

That’s interesting. I had the impression that he was highly ambitious.

I don’t he is a college coach. The nfl is all business his morning pray meetings would not go over well.

You’re right on all three counts. Tom Herman did an average job with a ton of resources, at place that is expecting to compete for the NC. Plus he’s easy not to like. A combination that will get you fired at a place like UT every time.
