The next great SMF idea. The key to this would be if these leagues could monetize this outside of their current TV deals. Im not sure that they could.
ACC, Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, Pac 12
5 teams in each group, 8 groups
- Based on prior year league standings
- 2 home games, 2 road games
- 8 group winners advance to an "exempt" tournament in late December.
- non-group winners get 3 more exempt games at home sites
- takes place of Maui and all the ESPN and Gazelle Group events that nobody goes to and nobody watches. Those events can still be held with teams (like Pitt) who didnt qualify for Champions League.
We all know Nov/Dec college basketball is a waste of time. Way too many cupcake games. Sure, HCs will hate this but there's money to be made and if most good teams are doing it, not many teams will have the advantage of gaming the NET system.
