We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The idea of being in a stadium seems a little scary but a possibility. Would it be possible for games to require/suggest that it only be attended by fans 55 and younger with no medical conditions? Attend at your own risk scenario?

No. I have said it a million times. Fans won't attend games in the fall. Perhaps each player gets 2-4 tickets for friends and family. The Gov. of California has already said he doubts there will be games in his state in the fall even without fans. Do you think Gov. Wolf is going to allow 100K people to go to PSU/OSU? Even 50K? Or heck 30K, that's a very large mass gathering.

Now, for the 2nd semester if things are better by then, then I could see fans being allowed, perhaps stadiums mandated to have somewhere between 25%-50% capacity.

Maybe but with inbreeding in Pennsyltucky the infection has already run its course. No visitors in creepy valley on game-days!

Probably less risky in outdoor stadiums than indoor arenas--particularly if masks are required. Just saw that Texas will be allowing indoor events like movie theaters to reopen but limited to 25% capacity--and, I believe masks being required.

IMHO, Pitt could probably safely have fans at Heinz field if crowds were required to spread out except for immediate family members from the same household with all at risk individuals staying home and everyone at the games wearing masks. That would probably allow about 30-35,000 maximum capacity to safely attend any home game--not very far below Pitts normal average attendance.

Even if we see testing show the antibody count getting higher across the population?

No. 39 and younger only. By the time people are 40 they are already over the hill and should be confined to nursing homes.

The WHO said there is no guarantee antibodies can protect from a 2nd infection. The thought is that they will but that hasnt been proven.

I would rather have a 2nd semester season anyway, hoping there will be a medical breakthrough by then so there won't be any stipulations on attendance. Plus games could take place on Sundays since the NFL will almost surely play in the fall. College football Sunday games would be a ratings bonanza.

Sweet beard of Zeus. College football in the spring would be incredible. I would be open to that idea.

This will be fun to watch the reaction from State College when they're told they can't watch their beloved Lions at Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.... Ha! If I know the nitters (and I do), they will scream bloody murder!

Then, Gov. Wolf will sit down with his cronies and decide how politically damaging it would be to carry out this edict. If they decide they he will lose massive support from the nitter faithful, he will reconsider... Trust me on this.

I don't know how it will end, but it sure will be entertaining...

Open up.
Games with fans.
Those who shouldn't be there due to medical reasons stay home.
Other fans at your own risk use your judgement.

MLB baseball will be played. A Yankee exec talked to a radio host and said they can open up with fans, masks, quick no contact temp checks on the way in, he didn't address seating, but this all will happen sooner than later.

CA beaches already have 40k plus on the beach. The open up movement is moving and will continue to move.

PA golf courses are open with few restrictions except one in a cart.

By fall lots of places will be open including beaches, casinos, so outdoor events should be a no brainer.

Ref. Chris Cuomo. Healthy young guy who got Corona virus and is now on the internet smiling away.
No problem.

If college football cancels or does something else that doesn't make sense the programs with attendance problems ( PITT is one of them) will lose a large percentage of the fans they have.

The power programs will make sure football opens with their valuable fans.

They are the power brokers and will drive the discussion.

Not sure about the NFL they players may welcome not working and getting paid.

Many predict a second wave will hit in the fall unfortunately. Even the sports that start up (baseball) may have to stop. Not saying we will completely shut down like this time, but don't think we see mass gatherings in 2020.

You cant shutdown things for something that hasn't happened.
Develope a plan A, a plan B, and C and see how things work out.

Noone knows if a second wave is coming or how bad it will be.

Move forward and adjust to the conditions!

I heard if the current Covid virus trends down, and hospitals wont be overwhelmed by a second wave it wont be a big deal. Protect those who need protecting and life goes on.

Hospitals are now returning to normal with many scheduling elective surgeries.

He is in his last term so he doesn't have to care about politcal consequnces which is refreshing.

By the time football rolls around there will be examples of mass gathering.

Already CA is demonstrating how 40k or more can hit the beaches.

Its outside!

Most football stadiums are outdoor venues.

SMF predictions are right on the money. Not so.
Lol.
He projected the DJIA to be at 6,000 its 24,400 right now. SMF lol.
He predicted no mass gatherings anywhere in the US its happening already all over the South where beaches are open same for CA and other places.
He projected businesses would stay closed until there's a vaccine. Businesses are beginning to open with states having plans to phase in business openings.
GA, SC, FL are open for business and most other states will follow.
He said there would be no Pro sports. The PGA is planning their opening, so is MLB, and car racing.
He said there would be no golf in PA . There's golf in PA. Marina's are opening too.
He predicted no socializing, while neighbors and kids are playing together in their neighborhoods.
He forecasted a massive death count at this time. Not the case.
On and on!
And there's no vaccine SMF. LOL!

It must be terrible being you SMF.
I couldn't stand being wrong 90% of the time.
LOL!

You are SOOOOO naive. What about the democrats in congress that have supported him? It won't be their last term. When the heat is on, they will tell Wolf that they can't support him in the face of the backlash , especially the reps in the middle of the state. It's always about politics and money...

If you can get 30k-40k-50k people to act in a uniform and responsible way....it would speak volumes on how we can get life back to normal and our economy back on track. Otherwise, just stay at home and be scared.

So are you on record predicting 100K for PSU vs Kent State on September 5?

If Pitt were to play in the Fall under social distancing, would there not have to be some type of revised season ticket plan?

I mean, everyone if acting prudently would buy the cheapest ticket plan possible and force Pitt to assign many to better, more expensive seats?

Uh...no, I'm not predicting 100K for Kent State game. I never predicted that.

I'm telling you that if Gov Wolf puts a restriction on how many people can go to the game, you will hear the cry of the banshees coming from State College. Wolf and his supporters will hear the cries and will capitulate provided they follow some sort of guidelines yet to be determined. PERIOD. That is my prediction.

Now how many have the balls to show up is a different issue, but it doesn't matter. They will complain...

If kids are on campus, football can and will be played. There is NO difference between the two situations wrt social distancing.

A boxing gym in Pittsburgh is already open. People are psyched to get going again. Not saying this is necessarily smart, but it is happening.

Big difference from 40k at the beach and 40k in a stadium. I have never been on a beach that I couldn't find 6 feet of space between my family and the next. A lot tighter quarters in a stadium. Plus beach is most likely to be sunny where that might not be the case at a football game in November

How many Wuhan virus patients do UPMC hospitals have? 19? UPMC is asking for more work and is moving on with elective surgeries. Their beds are empty. There just aren't that many infected people in WPA right now.

I'm thinking we're going to be sitting in Heinz Field Feb 7th in a blizzard watching Pitt play Miami of Ohio. can't wait!!

Oh, no. If kids can be on campus, there can be fans in the stands. Any other conclusion is idiotic. Not saying an idiotic conclusion won’t be reached, but it is still idiotic.

So, if Penn State allows kids on campus, you feel that 100K should be allowed to go to their game vs Kent State on September 5?

There is a massive difference between kids living in dorms and going to class and squishing 100K into a stadium too small to fit that many comfortably as it is.

Honestly, dorm life, cafeteria and class rooms have a much greater chance of passing on the virus than an outdoor, 3 hour football game.

Not sure about a greater chance especially in small, cramped stadiums that seat 80K-100K. I don't think people realize how small Beaver Stadium is. You literally are touching the person sitting next to you and its like a mosh pit in the concourse.

Also, kids being on a college campus to get their education would be viewed as more essential than fans attending a game that they could watch on TV or attend a few months later. There is no requirement that college football must take place in the fall.

Kids in dorms, cafeterias, classrooms and parties — indoors — are way more likely to infect each other. So, yes if it is OK to have kids go to school it is absolutely OK to have a football game with fans.

Again, it could be viewed as essential to learning/development to have these kids on campus, not to mention to avoid the colleges going bankrupt. It is not essential to have 100,000 fans go to a Penn State/Kent State game that a) can be watched on TV or b) played 3-4 months later.

1. What does essential have to do with anything? Kids on campus are at least as much at risk as fans at a game.
2. It looks to me that you, and others, are using the pandemic to dictate what others can and cannot do based on your value system. But, I will play along.
School can be postponed just as easily as a football game can be. Learning can be done remotely just as football can be played without fans. If the school goes under, professors need to find some other way to support themselves. If a football program collapses, coaches need to find some other way to support themselves. Really, these are the exact same thing.
