Just for something to talk about and let’s hope it doesn’t happen but what will happen to college sports if fall football is interrupted or even cancelled. In all FBS schools, this funds all of the other non revenue sports and totally out of control football coaching salaries. For some schools, particularly in the Big10 and SEC, the football salary budgets have grown out of control and fully rely on packed stadiums of 80,000+ and conference TV revenue. What happens to the PSUs and OSUs $100mm+ revenue budgets? My sense is they spend as much as they make so there is not a big cushion or sports endowment. Do the head guys take salary cuts? Do some assistants get furloughed? Could it stress out some schools where they need to drop sports? Just amazing to think about a Michigan for instance and all of the lost revenue associated with 106,000 fans on Saturday in the fall.
