College Gameday September 16, 2017: #22 Pitt @ #2 Penn State

Should be fun.

We were better than them on September 10. We are better than them now and we will bw better than them next September (though it would be nice to see Joe Moorhead get a HC job).
They won't be that high. I think 5-7ish.
Should be a great game though!

Moorhead is a good coach. He has head coaching experience and would be a good candidate for a HC this year.

If we get Zaire and 3 defensive backs that can play day 1, maybe #16 Pitt vs #4 PSU.

Gameday sign yesterday was "psu gets Moorhead." Thought that was funny.

Expect the PSU hype train, PSU to be favored. Should be a good one regardless but I'd feel iffy given how much they return and the fact it's in Creepy Valley. And no more Peterman.

psu will be top Ten. but not #2.

Pitt and PSU play on 9/9 next year, not 9/16.

Pitt losses will be Biz, DJ, Peterman, Ordoff. Price, Jarrett and potentially Conner. That is significant. But to suggest Pitt can't replace or at the very least improve next year over this years team will depend on three things. QB, DB's and JJS. Clark is certainly highly rated at TE. The influx of the DB's and linebackers are the upgrade athletically over what departs. If Hendrix is back and ready to go, that helps as well.

There's maybe 100-200 of you guys across the country who still think Pitt was better than PSU this year.

It's truly a fascinating thing to hear.

Also, PSU won't be ranked #2 - there's no way they will be relevant again.

Pitt is CLEARLY the better team. We played on the field. And for what its worth, we also have the best win in college football this season.

2016 PA STATE CHAMPS

Don't think you will see GameDay on the PSU campus for a few years. PSU fans hate ESPN. And hate might not be a strong enough word. Three hours of getting boos does not make for good TV from ESPN's point of view.

They are #5 now and return everybody.

If USC beats PSU (they will be favored to do so) why do you think Penn St would be ranked higher to start next season? I would think Florida St and others would be ranked higher as well.

Can't see PSU in top 5 pre-season. O$U and Michigan will be higher. Bama will be higher. And probably FSU and Oklahoma. And maybe another overrated SEC team. Or even USC.

Lol
Tell OSU and Wisconsin (favored teams) how that worked out for them??

PSU next September could be Top 10 but only top 5 if they stick it to USC.

As for Pitt being better now - CLEARLY no way. Better on September 10th - absolutely, but the body of work of 4 losses Vs 2 losses this season suggests otherwise. Polls say otherwise - rational fans say otherwise.

Head to head goes to Pitt but look at the PSU / Ohio State head to head and who got the playoff nod with one less loss. The Pitt / PSU comparison is similar except that Pitt has two more losses that PSU.

What an absolutely baseless set of statements. What really makes you think PSU is better than PITT at this point in the season? Is it the fact that PITT finished the season beating Clemson at their place, the absolute destruction of Duke, or the 76 points they hung on Syracuse? Please enlighten us as to why the outcome would be any different?

Maybe you are going to reference the players who were hurt for the PITT and Michigan games, ignoring the fact that PITT was without a start DE, LB, and a James Conner who was still trying to get into game shape. Maybe you can reference the new offensive coordinator, but PITT was going through the same process with Canada.

Please save the body of work BS. If you played Oklahoma State at the beginning of the season like PITT instead of Temple or Kent State, PSU is likely sitting at 1-3 to start the season.

Like I said - Rational fans. The W and L's speak for themselves. Enough said.

You seem pretty proud of the Duke and Syracuse wins, teams that went 4-8 overall and 1-7 and 2-6 in conference respectively, yet dismiss a Temple team that went 10-3 and beat Navy - remember those guys?

Clemson was a great win for Pitt as was the PSU win, but losing 2 games to good teams Vs losing 4 games to decent teams trumps. Winning 9 in a row accents the point, and we wont even get into the points given up by the Narduzzi defense to Cuse. Be happy they have Canada - the guy can really coach up an offense.

funny you left out that murderer's row of Minnesota, Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, Purdue and Michigan State in that streak of the ages...PSU played two difficult road games the entire year, they got smoked horribly in one and got their asses spanked around for most of the other one....Have State Penn have a road schedule of Okla State, North Carolina, Miami and Clemson and get back to me as to how they make out at the end of the year...

Penn State had the better season, Pitt still beat them. You can try and fit your narrative to say which team is "clearly" better, but those are the only two concrete facts.

But for someone to say PSU would obviously murder Pitt if they played again, you sound like the same kind of moron that would try and light a news truck on fire if your coach got fired.

You know what, if Pitt opened with penn State every year from 2001-15 Pitt would've won every single time. There if I get enough people to say that it must be true right? I have no evidence to back that up, but penn State apparently gets better as the year goes on all the time. So yep, opening week every year and we win every time. Lucky for penn state that didn't happen. Man I love using their logic sometimes.

This is spot on.

Mich losses most of their starting units using up eligibilty including Peppers leaving early. PSU losses four starters with two easily replacable with equal or better talent. Michigan will not be ranked higher.

I expect Penn State to be a Top 5 Ranked Team in opening up 2017. Pitt and all of the Big Ten will have their worked cut out to beat them. Congratulations on a Great Season winning the Big Ten! Led by "Trace The Ace!"

I expect Pre-Game Banter and Post Game Bravado understand that does not take away respect for Penn State! I want Pitt to play beat the best and that means playing Best!
