For those who think our Soring Game attendance was bad, here are the estimated attendance figures for the PAC-12. The estimates are from newspaper writers covering the game. No estimates were made in stories of the other schools’ spring games.

Cal: 1,500

USC: 2,000

Oregon State: 2,500

Arizona: 2,500

Arizona State: 5,000

Utah: 6,000

Oregon: 35,000

A spring game that gets 60k is just weird. Seriously. I love passionate fan bases but this is ridiculous.

It’s more of an indictment on the college town and surrounding areas lack of entertainment options than it is a positive on the fan base.

You have an area that gets 60k to watch this, you got a lot of bored students and locals that don’t have squat going on with their weekends.

I guess the only thing worse is getting 60K and then looking down on other programs fans for not having cult like obsessions.

Some school schedule family weekend and shut down all activities on campus for the first half of the game

It's called school pride. Great chance for alums to get back on campus and take their family. And the fans come from Pittsburgh (like me) Philadelphia, Washington, Baltimore, where there are other entertainment options.

Yep I drove 4 hours from NJ and made a nice weekend out of it.

It's just a social thing at those places. Lots of people go to tailgate, and don't even go into the stadiums. Football is just an excuse to get together. A lot of those places that have attendance of 60K have another 10K outside.

But, these kinds of events foster a sense of community and belonging, and that is what leads to donations. Some people donate because they feel obligation, some because it makes them feel more of a part of the bigger picture, and some because they want to impress others that they hang out with. It doesn't matter why; you just have to give them an excuse to do it. Events like these, also like bowl games, help.
