Conner Back For 2017?

Are we sure it's a benefit to Pitt if he comes back? Do we want another year where carries are taken away from Noss, Ollison, and Hall? I'm not sure Moss isn't a better option right now

If he returns to his 2014 form, he's still the best back we have.

His best bet is to leave. RB's only have so many carries in them, especially big backs like him.

If you figure he is a 7th rounder or free agent now, even if he comes back stronger next year he still won't get enough carries to move himself up more than maybe a round or two.

He needs to show what he can do catching the ball and handling blitz protection to prove he can play at the next level.

It's not easy coming back from serious illness. I thought for sure Brian Shorter would be an NBA player, but he just kind of faded away. I hope Conner has a better future in store.

Total nonsense. He 's splitting carries the way he is at the moment because he's not in top shape. If he returns to form, he gets the lion's share of the carries and if he performs like he did in 2014, he's a sure 3rd round pick. You don't jump early to get drafted after the 5th round or to sign as a free agent-that's idiocy! If he goes early, hit really tells me that he's done with FB.

Seems like he is losing significant playing time this year, if he stays he will probably lose more playing time next year, especially with the way Moss and Ffrench run, does not seem to fit into this offensive scheme, does not break the tackles he used to and seems to have lost some speed and cutting ability, if he stays and drops in the depth chart might not get drafted at all, he should leave after this year. probably for his own best interest and wish him well

He's losing time because he doesn't have the conditioning to perform at the level he did in 2014. If he can get back to that level he's still the best back we have. In any event, he would still need spelled and Moss is a nice change of pace. The reason why the slot backs are getting so many carries is, in part, due to the falloff in production from the tailback spot. I see absolutely NO scenario where he stays and drops on the depth chart. None of the other backs has shown the ability to be a bellweather 20-25 carry per game halfback like James has or the ability to be as effective as James was in 2014.

Right! As he was in 2014, hopefully he can

I think the decision is pretty easy, but certainly not known now. If he is timing and scoring high on the combine drills in the time before the combine, he will leave. So much of the draft depends on the times a guy has during a couple day period, injury or not.

I really do think this is one of those rare instances that the Steelers, with their proximity go ahead and take Conner no matter what with the 6-7 round pick, and as others said, the Steelers definitely need him

I believe we all agree with this.. Kid is a warrior, probably my favorite Panther of all time.. Absolutely no doubt he can get back to that point, he just isn't there yet.. No knock on him, 99% of us would be still wearing a hospital gown, walking around hospital hallway, feeling sorry for ourselves..

Just a tad realistic with an NFL team drafting him in even a mid round pick.. just doesn't seem likely. Hope im wrong.. If anyone deserves it, it's him.

I think we are on the same page. I was not suggestion that he was currently playing like a sure bet to be drafted, just that I expect him to continue to get better... to build his strength and stamina and speed and agility... and I expect him to prove he can play at the next level. People saying he has no shot at the NFL, are unfairly jumping to the conclusion that he can't possibly get much better than what they are seeing now. I will give him time to get it all back and show us he can once again play like that special RB all of us remember watching on the field.

he will be back

for him life is now an adventure and we;s got one more chapter at Pitt to go

Hail to Pitt

The one positive out of this year though is he is showing a competence for catching the ball out of the backfield. Not looking up stats or situation but IIRC he may have had 3-4 receptions his whole sophomore season. That was very concerning in scout reports I read now that the NFL is a very pass happy league.

He's gone. He'll take the 3-4 months after the season to really train and hopefully get back to 100%. He's a solid 3-4 rounder and there's nothing wrong with that. He'd be a fool to return. Thanks and good luck to you James!!!

If you think he's going in the first 3-4 rounds based on the way he's played this year , you're a dreamer. Teams will have severe questions about him. Right now he's a long shot to even be drafted. If he wants out of school badly and is willing to risk being a low round pick or sign as a free agent the he'll jump. Personally I think he's too smart to do that.

you need a 5 year period before you can say "cured" of cancer.
That's not at the heart of the isuue regarding his likely draft position. The heart of the issue is whether given what he's been through can he return to his prior form. Right now he's not the same back. Teams will have to ponder whether the decline is a conditioning/rust issue or a permanent one which is why today he'd never get drafted in the first 3-4 rounds. If he returns to Pitt and his prior form then he erases these doubts and is drafted where he deserves to be picked.

I said this before during that five year period people take maintenance drugs that are extremely debilitating physically and mentally depending on their situation.
For some of us average people returning to top form in simple sports like golf, tennis, bicycle racing, running is a multi year proposition!
He's young, strong and works hard so that helps things but it isn't a one year and I'm perfect it may be two or three?
I think some smart NFL team will take a chance and draft Conner locking him up for the future which for him will be great! Cant wait to watch him tear up the NFL!

The perfect outcome!
Mr Conner moves on and has a great NFL career
PITT RB's get their chance to position themselves as future stars
