Roethlisberger has a sprained MCL, no surgery and will miss 4-6 weeks. Conner had a torn MCL, repaired by very successful sugery and may miss the season. I never went to med school but shouldn't a surgically repaired MCL heal around the same time as a sprained MCL.

Sorry, but Im still dreaming of the scenario where we win the next 5 and Conner returns for ND for ACC Saturday Night Football and we ride him to Charlotte for the ACC title game.

For as great as I know JC is, it shows even more when he is out of the lineup. The drop off was way more than I was expecting.. Hope to high heaven we see him again this year..

Ditto. I gave our OL way too much credit.

Roethlisberger pocketed $50,000,000.00 in the last 12 months. Conner hasn't pocketed a dime. End of story. Better to be safe than sorry. It's a business decision. For every game we stink running the ball, Conner looks greater and greater.

How could you expect the drop off to be less than great. This guy is one of the very top RBs in the country because he is head and shoulders above most others.

I understand the business end of it. If Im Conner's relation, Im telling him to bot even think about playing again until that first NFL check clears. But, if its Nov and both Conner and Boyd are perfectly healthy, why should Conner sit out but not Boyd? Frankly, if Im Boyd, if we are out if contention, i tell EJ to write up some fake injury story and take the rest of they year off. Now, that wont happen but its not worth the risk.

I believe that a lot of draft-eligible players should skip their RS Soph or junior seasons if they are projectef high. Fans would hate it but its good business.

Exactly...It's not like we just lost our starting running back, we lost one of the best running backs in the country.

Yeah, he got better last year because he got quicker and faster to go along with his power.

Last year in addition to running people over and breaking tackles, he could make people miss.

He bailed the offense out a lot by getting yards after contact.

Boyd didn't have surgery or serious injury. He doesn't have the chances that a running back has to re-injure his knee on virtually every play with linemen, backers and DBs flying at his knees. If Boyd shut it down, he'd be looked at like he was Derek Bell.

I don't know why exactly but yes a surgically repaired torn MCL takes 2-4 weeks longer to heal than one that heals naturally.

I'd guess that when they repair it surgically they tear it up a little bit more to get everything the way they want it so it heals "right." Which is not a guarantee if you just leave it alone.

My mistake was overestimating the guys behind James. I had hoped that someone behind him would come in and play well because there are some good pedigrees there but that hasn't been the case.

Our Oline is minus the best player from last year in Clemmings and probably the best lineman on this year's team in JJS. Rowell is coming back from surgery and Biz being banged up. I'm not going to count out the RBs behind Conner just yet. I still need to see more, its possible Conner wouldn't have been as productive behind this Oline compared to last season.

Tears and sprains are the same thing. The difference is the degree.
Ben's injury is 2nd degree.
Conner's is 3rd degree.

I am in 2010's corner on this, at least partially. Yes, I agree we miss Connor; but, I also believe the OL problems are a large contributor to the drop off in the run game. I don't believe it can be solely blamed on either factor alone.

Sprains involve torn fibers. "Tears" just involve more torn fibers.
I'm not an ortho but uh...lol well why bother. Carry on.
Grade 2 can mean there is 1% to 99% of the ligament is torn if I've correctly.

Which may mean 2-4 weeks depending on the damage. It's probably the bone bruise which is more concerning for Ben.

Repairing a full tear means a couple months before rehab.

They will be substantially more cautious with a rb who plants and cuts on most every play....compared to a qb, who doesn't.

This is probably the biggest issue. Conner's knee has to be 100% before he can play. A quarterback can play with the knee being somewhat less than 100%.
