So let’s say JC declares for NBA. Toney leaves out of unhappiness. XJ leaves for China or Europe. Brown and Nike have graduated. Gerald leaves because he has not shown any improvement. Hugley is gone do to legal.
That leaves us with AKC, Horton, Jeffress, Collier, and Max, with no commitments for next year. Horton has already transferred. Jeffress and Collier are semi local so don’t think they could transfer easily. Max isn’t going to be offered elsewhere. AkC could consider it, but is a team guy. I would hope Capel could pull in enough transfers ala Nevada coach. He could basically promise 5 starting spots if the transfer is good enough. If not, 0-21 becoming more likely next year in conference play.

As OP I do not think it would under Capel either. However, we would need an above average transfer class.

I think its becoming apparent that Toney and Champagnie won't be back and I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson left also. Honestly, if the other 2 left, I'd kinda hope Johnson would leave as there's no need for him to steal minutes from underclassmen.

A lineup of Femi, Horton, Jeffress, Collier, and Coulibaly would be underdogs in all 20 games but it would be nearly impossible for them to go winless. That team is considerably better than the 0-20 team which had all freshmen plus JWF and Milligan (who was a mid-major talent at best). A couple of those guys could improve to the point where they can be legit ACC players.

I do think something like 2-18 would be pretty likely. Its really unbelievable to say this but we may be 13 months away from another coaching search. Capel absolutely needs to bring in some big-time transfers or pull a Blue Chips and have a great 2022 class lined up because next year could be his last ever as a HC at the major D1 level.

And a bit of a knee jerk to a couple losses no matter how bad.

A bit of one, yes, but its certainly possible that our starting lineup next year could be without X, Toney, and Champagnie. We know transfers are at record levels.

They lost to a terrible Wake team, never were “in the game” against UNC, and got blown out with multiple technicals against a bad ND team. This isn’t knee jerk. It’s 3 years of trends.
Two weeks ago , we were in the tourney coming off beating Syracuse 2x and Duke -- I would have felt a knee jerk the other direction is talking about extending Capel then too.

We are a building program. There are going to be ups and downs. This season has shown that ANY program can beat anyone.

It's a weird year, not giving our team or staff a pass. Just stating reality right now. Penn State just thumped #14 Wisconsin.

Penn state has good advanced metrics and a bunch of solid teams. If we played right now I’d assume they’d kick the shit out of us.

Duke is possibly the only tourney team we beat this year.

Yes. This team is inconsistent but will win again this year. And JC is a far better recruiter than Stallings. It still never be that bad again. Well, unless we have another AD as bad as Scott Barnes.

I want to know why PSU has better players than we do even after their bought Philly players have moved on.

I'd love to see proof....recent proof....that Capel is a better recruiter than Stallings. I hope he is but he hasn't proven that yet at Pitt.

I sure wouldn’t want most of you guys having my back !

A couple of wins and they’re transformed into a sweet 16 team and a couple of loses and everyones going to leave or transfer and go winless ....pathetic !

Losing to ND, fine. They can get hot and hit a bunch of 3s. But getting blown the eff out while giving minimal effort, which Capel called "deplorable" is a tell-tale sign that the team has checked out.

Why not wait and see how they respond , watching a team make 3 after 3 gets demoralizing.

I agree. There is a reason for concern but this could also be a temporary slump for a team experiencing growing pains. They haven't lost the rest of their games yet.

I miss the BE, I'd rather have good basketball and football teams than more money to support women's volleyball.

Stopped giving the effort on defense especially in defending the 3-ball. Capel needs to get their heads straightened out.

I'm not an eternal optimist, but this is grim even for me. Let's calm down.

I will say that the next game is going to be big. Win, lose, or draw; whether we compete or look like we want to be there will be telling. VT has a nice record, but they're not an unbeatable juggernaut. We need to come out firing.

Lately I'm telling myself it's all upside. If we right the ship I have Pitts sports to look forward to. If we continue like this I'll cancel my Sling and save 40 bucks a month.

Agreed, by the way, how to you like Sling? I have had it for basketball season this year and am disappointed. It freezes at least 2 times a game and I have to restart the app.

Just two weeks ago ... we were pumped!! Staggering.
It really is. It’s almost impossible to reconcile that - without any injuries or absences - the same exact group of players managed to play so well in wins vs Syracuse and Duke managed to play some of the worst basketball we’ve ever seen in their next 3 games. To say this team desperately needs a win is an understatement.

It's merely fine. It's the cheapest way to get ACCN so I use it during the season then cancel it. I get frustrated that many game are blacked out if you're in Western PA (which Sling doesn't tell you when you click on the game in the ACCNX section). Then you have to try to watch them on the ESPN, hopefully.

I haven't had many performance issues, maybe had to exit once or twice over the last couple years, but nothing regular. I have a Roku TV that connects to my router by ethernet, so maybe that helps with stability?

No. The whole team would essentially have to leave like it did before the 0-19 season.

Personally I think they desperately need to Play Hard again... If they do winning will take care of itself IMO.

Knee jerk is accurate but at the same time a major understatement.

It’s amazing to think of the posts no more than 2 weeks ago after the Duke win vs now.
