- First of all that's two games since
the transfers, that Capel got his
players to come out and play
hard with much energy.
- Glad we had WF as our
opponent tonight. Too bad
we don't play BC this year.
- Glad to see that we covered
Mossoud tonight. He's no big
time player, but we left him
open last game and his threes
killed us. Tonight we guarded.
- Hopefully we play as hard
the rest of the season and
tourney. We're going to lose
some, but their play is good
to see.
- A few recruits and a decent
big could go along way to help
us moving in the right direction.
Maybe a transfer or two?

I won't question your statistical
analysis with the 1 in 60,000....
but the "40 % chance to win each
game" strikes me as off. Where did
you come up with the "40 %"

You knew they were going to play with a lot more fight and energy. Clearing the locker room to rid of constant me-first attitudes and other distractions can do a world of good.

And tbh, Capel's job shouldn't be in jeopardy yet, but if the team just mailed it in the rest of the year after the departures, it would probably fast track things in that direction.

He could talk about the Stallings dumpster fire last year. Next year is year 4. Good or bad, He owns it, and he knows it.

I made it up.

I mean we will clearly have better than a 40% chance to win some of those games. For instance we will be favored in our first ACC tournament game. But of course by the time we get to the last couple rounds of both the ACC and NCAA tournaments we would have a lot less than a 40% chance to win those games. 40% just seemed like a nice, round average number to use for a silly exercise.

OK, got it.

Sibande where was he earlier. What was Capel thinking

Sibande where was he earlier. What was Capel thinking

I have no idea what he was "thinking"
or not "thinking." He did see the
court and didn't show much. On the
other hand, the few chances he did
get, didn't give him much of a chance
to show what he could do.

Based on tonight's results, you're making
a good point.

Sibande has the look of a player that needs to be your first or second option. He thrives on having the ball in his hands. That was never going to happen with the Departed-Duo running things.

He was thinking that when Sibande came back from the covid pause he played five consecutive games where he shot a combined 1-8 on twos and 2-7 on threes. At some point, don't you have to do something to earn more playing time?

And - the defense was pretty bad, especially on the perimeter.

You are absolutely right. You have to earn time.

Nike's problem was he looked tentative and was deferring, trying to figure out how to fit in.

As he has played more, he is more assertive and playing better. Two or three of those 9 point games could easily have been 15. His 23 tonight could easily has been 15 (with his normal FT misses and 2 banked threes)

I would bring him back if he wants it. He looks like at least a rotation piece.

Sibande is just lucky, as in " Luck is when preparedness meets opportunity"
So with Zorro and the Lone Ranger finally sent up on the Santa Fe Trail, he finally gets a chance.

The way things stand now, he's
more than just "a rotation piece."
Given what Horton had done
the last two games, he might be
losing his time to Sibande. Of
course when Horton heats up
his shooting touch as we've seen,
he sees the court more. Unless
we come up with a major recruit,
another guard transfer, those two
are going to split time in Pitt's
backcourt. Also possible that they
both start along with Femi, but
I doubt that.

I agree with what you said about
having to "earn time."

I think a player needs to feel comfortable and he won’t be taking out. He obviously has talent not to mention a great free throw shooter especially late in games. Ur telling me horten should have been giving all the minutes. Not like Horten has shot well every game. Sibande also rebounds. Assist and can handle the ball. It was a mistake- one Capel would probably admit to. Didn’t realize he was a 90 percent free throw shooter either. Plus can create his own shot. Come on.

I think Nike was also struggling with his role. I think he knew he wasn't the top dog on this team, nor did he get any kind of an early season to get into what he was supposed to do to help the team.

But it's not hard to imagine that HCJC told him over the last two games and really try to be a scorer because that's what the team needs from him right now.

Over the last two games, I think he's also benefitted from both opponents really focusing all defensive effort on Justin. It's opened up some space for him to operate and he's done well with that.

thats how it works. U double a player and another takes advantage by working within the framework.

Actually what I said earlier this season, right on this very board, is that I thought that Sibande should have been playing more. BUT players have to earn the right to feel like they aren't going to come out of the game if they aren't playing well. And he hadn't. If you keep playing guys who are playing poorly so that they won't be afraid that they are going to get taken out if they are playing poorly, then what you get is lots of poor play.

I have to say -
I think Capel has made the right moves the past 2 games

maybe feels more free without x?
He’s benched Horton quickly -
Done a nice job using the tv timeouts to get Justin and femi a blow
They adjusted really well on defense tonight

it was very encouraging to see very active coaching to be honest

I like Nike. think he was tentative and deferring trying to fit in .Rusty too.

He has had 2 Or 3 games where he had 8 or 9 and that 8 or 9 could have easily been 14-15.

Tonight his 23 could have easily been 14-15.

I guess what I am saying he can get double figures most nights, but I wouldn't count on 23 very often. if we need that to win, we won't win often.

If Justin gets 20 (and that is good), there are still a lot of points that need to come from elsewhere to add up to a winning score.

Nike does get his share of boards and assists.

Glad when we got him, glad that we have him now.
