I hate to do this because I think Capel is a good guy and has done a decent job the last 3 years but it's time. Unfortunately, Heather extended him to 2030 so we'd have to eat 5 years. Given that Green is new and Capel was on the search committee, I sort of doubt he makes a move. He'll probably get 1 more year but what's the point. Its a senior laden team and others will transfer so whether Capel is coaching here or not, we are going to have 10+ new players next year.

There's plenty of coaches out there who would have us in the NCAAT next year. Cronin hates the B10 and would come back East. Odom wants in the ACC in the worst way but will probably get UVa. Wade would dominate the ACC. Chris Mack is lighting it up at Charleston and really didn't deserve to be fired at Louisville.

This team needed to make the NCAA Tournament. A NET of 11, good non-con and they blew it. This type of disaster falls on the coach.

Next year is going to be really bad. I think only Cummings and Kante return and not sure we'll be able to attract enough talent in the portal. Could be like a 4-16 type season but at least we'll save a few million and that's all that seems to matter.

Capel found his way out of an even more dire situation when he landed Nelly Cummings, Hinson and Elliott out of the portal so I do think he is capable of that again, but I would much rather see Chris Mack doing it that’s for sure.

That was before any real NIL dollars. That said, maybe its better he takes some straight-up bums for free like WVU did because maybe those kids will defend and rebound. WVU can't score at all because their players suck at basketball but you can't score on them.

I think he has to let the twins go. Smaller players just dribble around them and big players just push them out of the way. If they aren't hitting 3's at a 50% clip, they are a liability on the court.
Cummings/Kante... if he would have been playing them 10 mins per game, they could be useful but as of now its like bringing in a new player. They have no experience.
He was all-in on the Ish/Lowe show and it backfired on him. It's what I meant by a poor judge of character.

I don't think our donors are going to give Capel a dime. There was talk before about them not being enthused about writing big checks while he is the coach. Absolutely might have the worst roster in the ACC next season.

This is an interesting point because there's probably only a few donors who are paying the player salaries and if they dont want to pay, might Greene's hand be forced? But again, look at WVU. Lowest paid roster in the P5 so you can still win with free players if you defend and rebound.

Why would a Capel team defend and rebound? He's not going to completely change his coaching strategy. Plus, WVU - to the extent that they don't implode anyway - is an abberation. Give Capel that budget and it's more likely that we produce a season similar to his first two.

WVU can't implode because you can't score on them. They are 18th in the nation in defensive efficiency. Defense travels. This great UVa team is 215th.
