Did Jared Wayne make the right decision?

Actually there is.

I mean you are kind of correct though. There is no way for YOU to actually know, because you can't be bothered to look it up yourself and you refuse to believe someone who knows more about it than you do. So YOU can't really know.

Other people, on the other hand...
Found the answer on ESPN.

If a player has a base salary guarantee of $216,000 or less -- the amount guaranteed to practice squad players in 2023 -- and spends the entire season on a practice squad, he essentially gets the same money he would have without the guarantee...And even if that player is cut, if another club picks him up at any point -- to the 53-man roster or the practice squad -- the contract transfers to the new team for as long as the player is with his new team.

The highest guarantee given to an UDFA was $300,000, so Wayne was on the higher end of the guarantees. How anyone can watch this offense and believe that a WR would have improved his NFL draft stock is beyond me.

Looking back at this with the benefit of hindsight…

Wayne probably made the right decision to leave. He was getting anything close to 1,000 receiving yards this year with this offense. I personally thought he should’ve returned, but I don’t think his presence would’ve changed much about what’s unfolded, nor would it have helped his stock (does he even making it onto a training camp roster?).
He might not have had even 100 yards of receiving this season in this offense; at least if Jurk had continued playing QB as Narduzzi wanted
