Watching Federiko is so frustrating! When he gets the ball under the basket, he often seems clueless, even I could teach him a drop step, or a hook shot or a reverse layup.

Tim O’Toole is pretty good. He’s a big reason why Federiko has been as good as he’s been this year.
He has some good games, but today I feel like he left at least 5-6 opportunities on the floor that could have been 2 points, just because he rushes or steps the wrong way or something like that.

Hopefully we can see improvement in confidence and finishing. Needs to go up with more authority, realize he is 6’10 or whatever

Think he’s been a major surprise and playing extremely well.
ME TOO! Just saying if he learns a few things, he could maybe even average a double-double eventually, just wondering if they have a coach specializing in big man play.

They do. Tim Otoole. He’s really inexperienced playing basketball.

In the last 50 years here is a list of all the guys who averaged a double-double for a full season at Pitt:

Billy Knight
Sam Clancy
Jerome Lane
Aaron Gray
DeJuan Blair
Justin Champagne

That's it. That's the list. While it would be great to see, we really shouldn't expect to add Federiko Federiko to that list. Or for him to even get close.

I am not blaming our coaches on big man development. That is one of the hardest things to do in basketball if a player doesn’t come with any post footwork, post moves, or awareness how to use body down low. Literally it can take big men years to develop. Some get it quicker than others. But most don’t.

And there really is no incentive for a kid as the NBA doesn’t use traditional big men and teams mostly use their bigs to set high screens.

I was curious after seeing this list, as I thought Chevy would have been on it as a senior (averaged 15/8). Zanna actually came closer at 13/8.6

I was very surprised that Chris Taft never even averaged 5 RPG here in his two seasons.

I think that shows you just how tough it is to average a double-double. Troutman was great that season, and he fell 58 rebounds short. 58!

Or in other words, you could have added all the rebounds that sophomore Levon Kendall got that year to Troutman's total and you still would have fallen two rebounds short.

His hands just aren’t good enough yet , his length and athletic ability are what’s getting him by now . A lot of hard work in this offseason on his offense plus just like the twins he needs to be physically stronger . Pitts in good shape with it’s bigs lots of upside with Fede and the twins .

Think Gray would have gotten it if he didn't have the benefit of putting so many of his own bunnies back into the basket?

(just kidding, I know he greatly improved in that regard by his senior year).

We always called that a Jerome Lane. He was the original master at Pitt at missing an open layup, getting his own rebound and putting it in.

He’s the reason this team is an NCAA tournament team. His defense is all we need. On offense his high ball screens are good. With an off-season to focus on offense he will be a lot better.

And no you could not teach him anything

OK maybe he can average 10-7, better? Just saying with a little confidence and some skills training he has potential to do even better. although I think he's doing great. Good D and rebounding, I'm just frustrated when he gets the ball near the basket and just know he has the potential to do a little better in putting the ball in the hole from close in. Some of you take this stuff too seriously and literally to actually take the time to go research this :)

Tim O'toole is good. Also, development of big men take longer than guards/forwards.
Yep. And it’s not like since Capel has been here that he has more than just a few years with any one big man to even work with.

It's not just his hands even if he has full control of the ball, he often just wildly and hurriedly throws it up, when with a step or a spin he'd have an easy layup.

It took, literally, 30 seconds to find that list.

The fact that you'd rather just post something obviously wrong than spend literally 30 seconds to get it right isn't the point in your favor that you think it is. :)
It's not even OBVIOUSLY WRONG, it could happen, he has the body and athleticism, I'm not saying he could average 22 and 15, but 10 and 10 is possible, even if not probable. with a few minor improvements in footwork, he could easily score 10ppg, he's averaging close to 6 and he easily has opportunities for 4 more every game, where he either messes up or passes off instead of going up strong. SO NO IT IS NOT OBVIOUSLY WRONG, it's possible, you could of laughed it off if I said the same thing about Aaron Gray his first year.

I shake my head Evertime someone argues with you.
It's just silly.
They lose everytime

Lack of confidence makes him hurry the chances he gets .

Chris Taft averaged 7.5 rebounds per game in both of his seasons here.

And yet, he’s leading the team in rebounds/game. I don’t necessarily disagree though… I just think this pertains to all of our players.
Not just rebounding, we need Hinson to get back to the key overall contributor he was earlier in the season. Currently, it seems like his only contribution to the offense is making a few long range 3-ptrs, he’s doing nothing inside or otherwise. A lot if that I guess is because of the opposition size in recent games so hopefully it comes back in future games against smaller frontline size.

He also needs to start making his FTs. You can tell it’s really in his head, his body language and reactions every time he misses one says it’s in his head big time.

Or he’s fatigued.

At this point, Fede's only goal should be staying out of foul trouble.

No doubt there is more to come, but for now, that is it.
