The window to get in is definitely open. Last night was definitely a huge help. Gotta find a way to win one more vs FSU & hope we can take care of business vs UM.

Game today suspended after five with Pitt up 6-3. They'll finish today's game tomorrow before the regularly scheduled game. Got to find a way to close this one out.

Anyone know who all is out of eligibility. People listed as " seniors " but i dont even know what that means these days

Pitt has 8 gradstudents and 8 seniors:

Grads: Spiegel, Grau, Candelario, Kovel, Partridge, Beimel, Dell, Baker

Seniors: Sokol, Funk, Popa, Bischke, Fogel, Fernandez, Mosley, Phelps

Worth Noting Matt Fernandez, Chirs Baker, and Erubiel Candelario were not in the Graduate Photo. Obviously anyone who was can still return if they wish to but just worth noting

Also correct me if im wrong, but the 2024-2025 roster comes out almost immediately after seasons end correct due to the transfer portal being very soon after seasons end?

There were 13 players honored for senior day today. A quick look at the roster leads me to believe that all 13 of them should be out of eligibility, because the "regular" seniors all played four years in a row, 21, 22, 23 and 24, which *should* make them not eligible for an extra covid year.

Candelario should not have any eligibility left. He played four years at Marist and two years here. I can't imagine why he'd get a seventh season.

Baker is in the same boat. Four years at Washington College, one year at Virginia, now this year at Pitt. He can't have any eligibility left either.

Fernandez spent a year at Florida International, then one at a juco, then two at Pitt. In the "old days" he wouldn't have any eligibility left either. But none of those three guys were honored today. So what does that mean?

I'm thinking not, because they've all played in the 21, 22, 23 and 24 seasons. The extra covid year for spring sports was the 20 season. So if someone has played all four years since then, unless they redshirted one of those seasons they shouldn't have any years left. And I think our seniors have all played four seasons.

But I admit, they've made so many changes to the rules, some of which don't really make any sense, so I don't know for sure.

Its correct that rosters come out immediately after seasons end most of the time right, due to the portal opening so soon after. So we should get a good idea after seasons end.

I don't know when they typically update the baseball roster, but it was just recently that they updated the basketball roster and a similar point of the basketball season to now was over two months ago.

Is there an outlet that announces every time someone commits to the baseball team, i always end up finding out the recruiting class when Bell announces it, is there an outlet that announces every individual commit as they come?

None affiliated with the school. There are baseball recruiting sites out there, but most of them seem to be pay sites.

Standings for the last two spots in the ACC tournament:

Miami: 10-17
Notre Dame: 9-18
BC: 8-19
Pitt: 8-19

I am assuming that the first tiebreaker is head to head, which means that we lose the tiebreakers to both Notre Dame and BC. So we have to win at least two against Miami, and really we might need to win all three. And it's theoretically possible (although not very likely) that we could win all three and still not make it.

Hopefully we can find a way in by winning 2 of 3 vs UM & we get some help from Clemson and Louisville

Just trying to find somewhere that keeps track, always end up seeing the transfer class when Pitts official site announces it
Right.

Pgh Sports Now lists "some" as they come in.

On Twitter Dominic Campbell does as well, as does the Pitt Baseball Twitter.

Pitt baseball commitments can be a bit of a challenge - usually if the player announces it on Twitter it’ll get retweeted by the various collection of folks who track that sort of thing..but that’s pretty much it as far as coverage goes. And baseball rankings are notoriously difficult to get right, so it’s hard to put too much stock in those when evaluating the recruiting. And most high school kids commit so early that it’s almost easy to forget about them for a few years.

There is a push to move the college baseball season back, beginning in April and culminating with CWS in July, after the all star game and before NFL camps open.

This would give the sport a full week of attention (think brandy chastain and the world cup), as well as level out a playing field that is not kind to northern teams.

It seems to be such a sensible idea that its likely the SEC wont allow it to happen.....

The SEC isn't the only people against that idea. In fact if you polled the ACC schools there might be a majority of them opposed as well.

For there to be any chance for a plan like that to work you'd have to get the cooperation of MLB. Because you can't have MLB drafting college players and signing them to contracts shortly before the post season starts. Now it's possible with the reduced number of minor league teams that MLB might be amenable to that. But that was something that MLB was always opposed to in the past, because they wanted to get players, especially pitchers, away from college baseball managers as soon as possible.

Scored three in the top of the 6th to take a 3-1 lead tonight. Literally a minute or so later Clemson hit a three run homer to take a 12-10 lead over BC in the bottom of the 8th. And I assume because of potential rain the next two days, Notre Dame and Louisville played a doubleheader today and Louisville won both games.

If us and Clemson hold on, this will be as good a day as we could have hoped.

Once again, at the biggest moments we can't throw strikes. The first run we gave up was on a walk, walk, infield single and walk. What ended up being the winning run scored on a walk, walk, walk and hit batsman. And a walk contributed to the 5th run as well.

For the game, Pitt pitchers throw eight innings and walked nine and hit one. That's just not good enough.

A win tonight would have been huge. Instead:

Miami 11-17
Notre Dame 9-20
BC 8-20
Pitt 8-20

So Miami is in. We need to win two, have Notre Dame lose their last game, and have BC lose at least one.

Those last two are actually pretty likely to happen. The first one, not so much.

At the risk of doing it two days in a row, Notre Dame lost to Louisville today, and Clemson beat BC. Meaning that if we win the last two, we are in.

Currently up 5-1 in the 6th tonight. Miami pulling a little of the Pitt pitching "magic" tonight, when Pitt's 4th and 5th runs scored on a walk, walk, walk, error, walk.

Looking good so far tonight. We’ll see who pitches tomorrow.

Win tomorrow and in. Lose and out.

Wouldn't surprise me if they go with essentially a bullpen game. Get a couple good innings out of whomever starts, and then move on to the next guy. As soon as someone gets in trouble, yank them and put in someone else.

Nobody who pitched on Thursday pitched again tonight, so everyone should be available. Although with Fox throwing 35 pitches tonight he's probably not going to pitch too much tomorrow.

And they won 10-7 and are in as the 12th seed thanks to CJ Funk's grand slam in the 8th.

We are in a group with North Carolina. The text of the article on the ACC web site says the third team in the group is Virginia Tech. The graphic and the list at the bottom of the article says the third team is Wake Forest.

You wouldn't think it would be that difficult for them to figure out.

Schedule for the tournament to be released tomorrow morning.

OK, they updated the text of the article to now say that Wake is the third team in the group.

So that's a group with the number four and the number 10 RPI teams in the country in with us. The D1 Baseball poll this week had them 7th and 8th in the country. An uphill battle to win two games for sure.
