Duke UCF crazy epic finish

I am not a Duke fan by any means, but that was a clear shot clock violation on UCF that wasn’t called. The officials did not determine the outcome.

Barrett with a little bit of a push off on that offensive rebound as well.

I’m a little bitter, had a 500-1 future ticket on UCF that I could’ve hedged out for a decent profit had they held on.

Tough, tough loss for UCF.

The officials weren’t an issue. Missed dunks leading to 5 point swings, missed dead ball rebound, missed tip-in that would have gone 99 times out of 100, stuff like that. Crazy.

Would have been great if the last shot or tip in shot goes for UCF. Zion is fun to watch but I will always root against Duke & K.

Duke equals Notre Dame football when it comes to refs giving them breaks.

However if that dude jams the ball in on the 2 on 1 a minute and a half early it’s a 6 point lead and game over

The 2 on 1 fast break around 2 mins to go which would have put UCF up 6 was a huge turning point

When that happened I said UCF would lose. Just can’t blow possessions on what should be easy buckets.

I agree. Good things happen for Duke. Scottie Reynolds would have bounced the ball off of his foot had they been playing Duke.

Wow. I got caught up in the madness and was living and dying with UCF even though it would have crushed my brackets. That’s why I always say “this is bigger than your brackets”

On this note I really want to commend the committee for constructing a lot of interesting matchups such as K going agianst Johnny Dawkins, Bobby Hurley going against his old program in Buffalo, Pitino JR going against Louisville and even the battle of Western Virginia with VT/Liberty. A lot of nuanced matchups.

Great game ! Dawkins was incredible. Taco is a big boy !
Someone should teach Taco to keep his arms straight up when he’s defending under the basket. If he didn’t reach down at the ball every time and foul the shooter he’d be impossible to deal with.

I was driving back from the games in Columbus, pulled over somewhere around Zanesville or so and watched the last 9 seconds. I swiped down on my screen to see if got any texts but I didnt realize that also prompted the app to show you the score of ALL games, to which it showed the Duke/UCF game had gone final. So as I watched that epic last chance for UCF, I knew they were going to miss. I did think that they could have screwed up the score as happened once before when I had to follow ESPN Gamecast for Oakland @ Pitt (Adams year). The website showed Oakland won in regulation and I was PO'd. I went back to the computer a few minutes later, not even sure why, and it showed Pitt was winning in OT. One of the most unique feelings you'll ever have

I remember that game well. I was there with my wife and we were just about to leave when James Robinson made a huge play. We actually were up top and had left our seats. Glad I convinced my wife to stay.

Fall's last foul wasn't. He was vertical and run into.

I love Jones. Great kid, great defender. He did not have legal guarding position and hip checked his UCF player on a late shot as well.

If anything, UCF got the better of the calls or at least the close ones.

Don't agree about the last play. Falls arms come down on Zion. His arms come down every time. I thought the call was completely fine. Regardless -- UCF got there more than their share.

It was a great game that was actually pretty well officiated. I'm really bummed that UCF didn't pull it off.

A college ref buddy of mine disagrees. If you are 7'6" and a 285 pound freak drills you- your arms are going to react. I think that's basic physics.

The problem with the call, Fall was vertical and Zion simply ran into him. That's the first foul on that play. Everything else happened after that offensive foul.

A no call have been better, imo.

Then I would say your college ref buddy was wrong. ;)

If Taco was smart, he would have avoided contact altogether and let Zion score (which would have had the same impact as the no call you wanted). But there really was too much contact for a no call.

Agree, it was a totally stupid position to put yourself in during that situation. A layup doesn't hurt you when you're up by 3.

Exactly. Tacko's arms fell a little when Zion rammed into his gut. Tacko needs to learn to move out from under the hoop and out of the circle so he gets a charge call. He still has so much to learn. I have never been a Duke hater or even an ND hater. They earned the right to get a few calls their way. But Duke lost me on this one. I haven't got up and screamed at the TVlike this since our Panthers were good.

Zion is great, but he was just bulling into people near the end. What a talent though. And he does it all. Dawkins's scoring and their savvy guard drawing all those files....a real treat to watch this game.

Fall probably isn’t going to learn very much at this point. He’s played 110+ games at the college level, he is what he is.

When he gets called for questionable fouls like he did in the 1st half today he tends to get a little passive, and he sometimes disappears for stretches.

Hated the play when they were up 4 late with the 2 on 1. No problem with them attacking the hoop, just thought the pass was a risk they didn’t need.

I am an ACC fan now so I root for Duke and UNC. The only ACC team I root against is UVa because I despise Tony Bennett for what he's doing to our great game.

Off topic, I think a Houston player's butt cheeks are hanging out his shorts are so short. These short shorts are getting ridiculous.

I don’t disagree that it would have been a good move for Tacko to avoid all contact at the end. But I also agree with some of the statements above about a 285 pd tank jumping into you then it’s natural for his arms to react like he did. But...his arms came down after Zion hit him. Zion could have easily been called for an O foul before that as he looked to have pushed off vs Taylor. Some of the talking heads at ESPN think so...

I thought UCF should have fouled with 15 seconds left and up by 3. That keeps the big guy in the game and forces Duke to make pressure free throws. I guess I still remember the Paul Evans, Vanderbilt game.

He's a completely different player than he was 4 years ago. He's probably still has a lot of development in front of him.

The refs were consistently bad in this game - going both ways. Refs did not determine the outcome of the game. Missed shot clock violation, clean block foul on the 3, and Tako should've fouled out much earlier than he did.

UCF lost this game more than Duke won it. Duke missed 3 straight free throws down the stretch, UCF botched the alley-oop to go up 6, and UCF missed two layups to win the game before the buzzer. UCF choked, and Duke is lucky.

it might have been, but there was definitely nothing clear about it..

WAY better sports programs than Pitt.

Anyone able to dispute that? LOL.
yes, that 3 year spurt in football and one NCAA tourney basketball season settles it..by that criteria they have WAY better sports programs than 90% of all division 1 schools...

I mean right now, THIS MINUTE and for the forseeable several years. BETTER THAN PITT---FACT

Nothing clear at all. After watching it the same way the rest of you and the announcers did, I'm inclined to think it probably did not hit the rim. But it certainly wasn't definitive and as such, I think not changing the changing the call because it wasn't conclusive was the correct way to go.

save the caps Sparky...like I said, by your "right now" criteria they are better than 90% out there so I'm not sure why you needed a Pitt reference other than to perpetuate your Pitt self-loathing yet again...
