In spite of some Posters not wanting or looking to read about other programs on the Lair at times, I enjoy making and discussing comparisons of Pitt, WVU, Temple, BC, Penn State, CUSE, and Notre Dame!
1. NOTRE DAME:
Coach Brian Kelly 51-21-0
6-1
9th Top 25 Ranking
16th Recruiting Ranking
Notre Dame the Historic College Football Program is doing just dandy and playing a tough schedule as usual. There only lost was to Top Ranked #3 Clemson by 2 points but pulled a Win against Virginia last 12 seconds? They have not beat another Ranked Team to date until #21 Temple tonight and USC goes back into the Top 25. Texas, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and, not much left but Pitt BC, Wake Forest and then a tough Top Ranked Stanford Team. They have a solid Program with a Solid Coach and playing them is honor and privilege as far as I am concern. They will continue to be a Top 25 Program for years to come. "The ACC Awaits & Sooner Not Later!"
2. TEMPLE:
Coach Matt Rhule 15-16-0
7-0 Overall
4-0 Conference
21th Top 25 Ranking
92nd Recruiting Ranking
Coach Ruhle has done a great job with the Owl Program, but looks like he is on way out, due winning the last few years. They have beaten Penn state, UCincy, UCF, ECU, but like Pitt and Penn State have Ranked Teams in ND and Memphis left. They are a Complete Team and well coached, they have SMU, USF and UConn left too. They will have to find another Great Coach unless Golden returns because Ruhle is a Hot Coaching Commodity now, and will leave if a better Program comes for him. Even as few know is Coach Rhule still has losing record at Temple. "AAC Rebound & Power Conference Wanna Be!"
3. PITT:
Coach Pat Narduzzi 6-2-0
6-2 Overall
4-1 Conference
67th Recruiting Ranking
New Coach & Attitude, the Defense and Special Teams have been coached up and still can have break downs but much better than under most previous Pitt coaches. The Offense has not been the same as last year since losing Connor this year? Pitt has not been able to beat Ranked or Winning Teams in 8th Ranked Iowa and soon to be 25th Ranked UNC. UNC did beat Illinois that will play Penn State today, so one small comparison can be made there now. Notre Dame is coming up tonight against Temple that Pitt will play next week. Another comparison to made later. The Pitt Program can end 6-6, 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, or 10-2 depending on the next 4 games. I think 9-3 is realistic but that means beating Duke, ULou, and Miami. Pitt has won by a tad and lost by a tad and if the Offense wakes up, can win their games against 3 Great Coaches in Kelly, Cutcliffe, and Petrino! Pitt has not lost by much to anyone either unlike WVU, Penn State, BC, and Cuse. According to Chris Peak, Pitt can close out a Top 25 Recruiting Class. So Little Done So Much To Do!
3. PENN STATE
Coach James Franklin 13-8-0
6-2 Overall
3-1 Conference
8th Recruiting Ranking
Played nobody and was beat by somebodies. Current make up on Offense and Defense are inconsistent with very bad Special Teams. Franklin & Staff coaching under questions until his Recruiting Classes of 24, 15 and 8th right now kick in in 2016. Temple and Ohio State had no trouble beating them badly. Only a weak schedule has kept them winning. Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois all will have New Coaches soon. Indiana was not much either, the OOC was the easiest in the Big Ten if not nation. If they can put the Passing & Running Units together with a Defense they can play Northwestern, Michigan, and MSU tough, but no one is expecting it. Today's Illinois Game is the same as the other and similar to Pitt Wins to date against average or below average Teams. Until Franklin & Staff can prove a signature win against Top Ranked Team, they are very even with Pitt, WVU, and tad ahead of BC and CUSE! Still should end up with top 10 to 15 Recruiting even if they lose some De-Commits. Penn State Fans will demand to see a far better Franklin Team in 2016 or could be some trouble. I used to think that will happen, and Penn State would return to the Top 25, and they should with such Recruiting rankings. Yet, now I am not so sure they can beat Michigan. MSU, and Ohio State and they are the Nittany Lion challengers with Pitt the next few years. "Penn State Is Franklin & Staff Or Busts!"
3. WVU:
Coach Dana Holgorsen 31-27-0
3-4 Overall
0-4 Conference
33rd Recruiting Ranking
Far better than their record looks but still looks bleak for the future. They started blowing out everyone they played and looked like a Championship type of team. The Big-12 OU, Baylor, and TCU and even OKSU are all top 15 Ranked Teams. Now comes the real tests with Texas Tech, Texas and KSU and Holgrosen is on the Hot Seat. Lose 1 or 2 or 3 and I think he will be gone, win all 3 he may stay one more year. An Offense that win big against most average to bad teams, but falls apart against anyone better. The Defense has become depleted due to injuries. The Special Teams are good but coaching looks average. Recruiting better than expected but may have many De-Committs if Holgrosen resigns and leaves or is fired? The future of WVU in the Big-12 does not look like the Championship expectations promised by this Coach & Staff. They are not rebuilding like Pitt and Penn State, and Cuse. WVU Administration, Boosters,a dn fans are confused ion what to do, and that can be worse than seeking a new coach? "Big-12 Too Big & WVU Too Far From Wins & Places!"
4. CUSE:
Coach Scott Shafer 13-19-0
3-4 Overall
1-2 Conference
61st Recruiting Ranking
Cuse is rebuilding and still adjusting to new coaching from year before but is the opposite of Pitt right now. They have lost close games to Virginia and Pitt, and payed LSU pretty good, but still losing more than they win. They beat their OOC pretty easy except for Central Michigan. Pitt is not that far ahead of them and Cuse is not far behind Pitt. They have been able to score points in the 30s and 40s unlike Pitt, but their defense and Special Teams need far more work. They a brutal schedule left with FSU, and Clemson, then up against ULou, NCS, and BC. "So Little Done & So Much To Do More Than Pitt!"
4. BOSTON COLLEGE:
Coach Steve Addazio 17-17-0
3-5 Overall
0-5 Conference
56th Recruiting Ranking
BC beat their OOC Schedule that included Northern Illinois but has dropped all their ACC Games but by Heart Breaking Losses, including Wake Forest 0-3, ULou 14-17, Duke 7-9, & FSU0-14. The only Blowout has been by Clemson. Pitt Fans knows about losing close games but BC has had their coach far longer. They have breakdowns just enough on all 3 Units not to win but their Defense has better way better than expected. The Offense has let them down big time too? Pitt should pass them in recruiting this year soon. BC was big part of Pitt getting into the ACC over UConn, and will be a big part of getting Notre Dame to join someday as well as I suspect. Yet, BC still struggles as well. "Addazio May Be A Fazio!"

All Retooling and UVA & VT may be Re-coaching Soon!
Comparison Conclusion:
If Pitt, WVU, Temple, BC, Penn State, and CUSE played each other this year, I would find many Toss Ups Wins & Losses, and we will have to wait to see how all pan out now? WVU and BC toughest games are behind them after today.
Quite frankly, only Notre Dame is way ahead of all Eastern Programs. Temple, Pitt and Penn State fate have yet to be decided. Cuse, BC, Maryland, VT, Rutgers, WVU and Virginia have more to do just to have winning records. Pitt, Cuse, Temple and BC have to improve Recruiting as Penn State, WVU, Virginia, and VT have to improve coaching. Maryland needs a New Coach!
