and Pitt still found a way to win. Where did #44 Scott come from? He was a force today.

6 sacks by Pitt D. Not too shabby.

And yes, Scott was excellent. Just a youngster. Maybe this game will be the spark that ignites him?

yeah sure..... you never know..... He may never get it back....
he is 19 . he is a child..... i said he was too young to know what pressure was.....
so what . Pitt i s 6-0
GameDay will be here if we are both 8-1. McAfee will have to act like he wants to be here. He's a clown but he's dort of entertaining
....

I spent a lot of time watching the WRs at the game and there were a lot of plays where Cal was in cover 0 and cover 1 and our receivers couldn't break loose at all.

Not saying Eli played well by any means but there were times he seemed to have no good options.

Probably should have just ran it more but hey it's a win

Cal has a good D and did a good job of confusing a young QB and a young OC. It was going to happen sooner or later.

Gotta learn from it to move forward. Great to get the win regardless.

Yup. Expecting a Frosh and new OC to not have a down game is unrealistic. It happens to even better qbs The Key is how Eli and Bell respond. I have a feeling the best is yet to come from those two

Think losing the starting left side of the OL in the 1H had an impact on the play calling. Maybe some of the execution, too.

Collier (LG) and Enos (LT) did a credible job for the remainder of the game. Especially under the circumstances. But maybe OCKB was reluctant to try some things he may have tried had he had his starting OL unit intact?

Losing OL starters mid-game can be difficult. Now Pitt has until 10/24 to get ready for SU. Have to see where things stand with Jacoby and Taylor injury wise. Also to use that time to get the replacements integrated as starters in advance.

Winning yesterday and seeing that effort by the D was fabulous. 6 - 0 and a top 20 ranking at the mid-point of the season. Really good stuff! 👏👏👏

Stat wise, Cal has a top 10 passing defense. Eli contributed to the updated stats, but 8th nationally in opposing QB rating.

What passing offense have they played outside of Miami?

If the opposing P4 passing offenses faced were Auburn and FSU, you’re probably going to have a very good pass defense in any metric that doesn’t adjuster for opponent.

F+ has them as the 36th best defense when adjusting for everything. By far the best defense faced this year. But still just a good defense, nothing that can’t be scored on.

Eli just wasn't as decisive in his reads as I was used to seeing. There were times he could have used his legs but waited to long and got swallowed up.

Eli played like a freshman. He was really struggling Saturday. He didn't make good reads. He was staring down receivers & throwing into traffic.

He had his TE wide open on the play he forced into the end zone, whatever that play was supposed to be.

The wildest thing about the Cal game is that before it became painfully apparent that Eli just didn't have it Saturday, the staff had already showed an intoxicating amount of confidence in him by going for it on 4th down twice in their own territory early in the game, and it paid off both times. It turned out that those drives were the difference in the game.

God is smiling down on the Pitt Panthers this year.

3rd quarter, first down . Pitt up 17-9 and have the ball on like the Cal 35 and Eli throws to no one in the end zone for a pick.
Just saw a replay of that, he had the TE and WR wide open.. I know he thought the WR was running a fly but that just can't happen again..
Eli has played great but is going to have to play better .
Looking forward to seeing how he rebounds after a poor game.
