Embarrassing...

Do you really think that she can make that decision, given the millions that it would cost to buy him out?

Spend the money!! It's not like Pitt is poor. Get some money from UPMC. Put a good product out there. There is no excuse for this.

Hopefully, we will get our 2nd coming of Ben Howland for the next hire and things will get better.
That is probably what Pitt needs to and will do.

Count on the fan base not liking it.

I can't remember the initial reaction of Howland. I know I liked the idea. Not sure if I was in the minority or not. And who knows...KS could yet surprise.

The imbeciles that opened the door for Dixon to leave should be called to the table to make amends.
How can they make amends when most of them are gone too? An example: Four fans that sat to the left of us and three in the row in front complained about Dixon for five years. They got their wish when Dixon left. Now they're all fed up with the program and they quit coming in the middle of last year. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!

When? He is already on a shortening leash, IMHO. Zero ACC wins this season and it is possible he is gone in March--but, if not, a below 0.500 team in 2018-19 would most likely be be the end.

Let’s see, you Dixon haters say he can’t recruit, then you say he can’t coach. So how did he become the winningest coach in the Big East. Your statement was absurd.

Find me a loss under Dixon as bad as last years vs Miami, Louisville, Duquesne or today? Let’s have some facts instead of getting your panties in a bunch because I dared to criticize the AD who you are giving knee-jerk support to because she’s a woman. Newsflash—women can fail at what they do just as easily as a man can, your sexist response proves that.
Loss to a lousy Rutgers team in which Pitt scored about 35 points...some others qualify..,Dixon turned into a bum...

So you don't like Stallings and don't like Lyke because she is female, that is pretty obvious. Don't forget all those NCAA losses by Dixon, guess they weren't embarrassing especially the way we lost. He was outcoached every time.
Well Maryski you won't have to worry about any more NCAA losses under your man Stallings. That should make you happy.

Just trying to stay positive :) Howland's team started to show remarkable improvement towards the end of his second season. Not suggesting it will happen, just saying it could.

Maybe the only good thing to come out of the KS era will be some extended goodwill/honeymoon for the next coach. ;)

Not a chance. Our fans will expect the next hire to be John Wooden himself right from his grave. And they will expect that all the while not donating a dime or going to any games.

Your sentiment is true enough. But we all know that is and has been the thing with Pitt basketball fans. They only support winners. They were making seat donations and filling the Pete when Pitt was nationally ranked. That will happen again only when Pitt becomes a top 25 team again.

However, I don't believe it will take Wooden coming out of his grave to make it happen. It will just take hiring an enthusiastic young coach with a short history who can recruit. Then, unlike with Stallings who was disliked from the very beginning based on his long and mediocre record at Vandy, many Pitt fans will be more inclined to be somewhat patient at least for a time because they will (1) be happy that KS is gone and (2) the new guy doesn't have a long coaching history to complain about. This will give them at least some hope that things can improve (since they firmly don't believe KS can do that). Then, if the new guy can show progress to 0.500 within 2 seasons and say and NIT/NCAA bubble in season 3 the fans will gradually begin to return.

That approach is a crap shoot, of course, but most fans by now recognize that any opportunity Pitt may have had to hire a known top quality experienced coach (even assuming there was such an opportunity to begin with) is now gone as a result of the KS hire and the precipitous drop to the bottom of the ACC that has followed.

I think this is a good way to look at it. It's all about perception and where you think the program is starting from. With KS most thought we were a middle of the pack program looking to improve but with the next coach everyone realizes we're at the bottom looking up. That alone buys an extended grace period plus couple that with a lower level/younger coach or assistant.

You already have people on this board that think KS should be given 3-4 years to get back to the dance so i would have to assume that group would also extend the same philosophy to a new coach. And a bonus would be that anyone who wants Stallings gone will have to be happy and stop complaining!

I loved Dixon, but he was left loaded with players when Howland left. He is gone, Stallings is here, we need to support the University. I'll be cheering for them no matter who is coaching them.

You are the exception. When you have a losing team there is nothing to cheer about for most fans.

it's like watching a junior varsity team play against an NBA team, amazing how far we've fallen in such a short time. Jamie, please come back!!
They remind me of when I coached my small church's CYO team, after they had been disbanded since I played for them 7 years earlier because we didn't have enough kids of the right age. So we would play these giant churches with 20 kids on the roster with good talent, and we'd have 8-9 kids of very questionable talent with moldy old jersey and no matching shorts, and we'd lose every game like 90-50, and went 1-15, watching Pitt this year reminds me of that experience.... But with the same group we went 8-8 the next season, with new unis, then I retired from coaching with a 9-23 record. LOL.
