First off, I'll own I missed this one. I heard something at the time about a month ago and ran with it, obviously it wasn't correct.
But onto tonight's events.
I'm not sure what's the issue right now with why Pitt can't land a big guy. The coaching staff is somewhere around 1 for 10 with official visits, that just doesn't cut it however you shake it.
Is the staff an issue?
Is Pitt itself still a damaged brand?
Is Capel not closing the deal like he should?
I'm really not sure. Losing a four-star to certain programs is one thing, losing JuCo's that seemed like must-gets to Ole Miss is another.
What's the bigger issue right now? Losing Khadim Sy to Ole Miss or that it got to the point where a guy like Khadim Sy seemed like a must-have in the first place?
I'm not sure where they go from here, I'll start to work on some names and do some digging on how they finish the 2019 class. I think Pitt's going to be a bit better next year regardless of how the class finishes simply based on progression from Johnson and McGowens. But even if they get a lot better, Pitt could have given them more support for next season. And the likelihood of doing that isn't looking promising at the moment.
