We know Antigua is going to Kentucky at this point but some more interesting assistant hires.

Dixon hired Uncle Jamie McNeilly to land Miller and his nephew Cashius. Should be a great pipeline to Canada now.

Ricky Greer will be joining Mike White at Florida. Great move by Greer. All 3 of Mike White’s assistants have gotten head jobs.

Greer has been moving up the ladder pretty quick.

Jamie has been playing the package deal game at TCU. He got that albino PG by hiring that assistant (Patrick?) he was tied to.

Tre Mitchell and step-dad still taking bids. I see them going to a coach who NEEDS to win next year.

Look for someone like Western Kentucky to hire Tony B for Mitchell... no inside knowledge there at all 😉

Obviously Stansbury would hire him but he does better than that. Its going to be a Pitt-level program or higher. Someone who needs to win next year. Or a team that is just a Center away from being really good. Give the dad 500K or so for 1-2 years of Mitchell then cut him loose when he's done.

Speaking of good recruiters your boy Mark Gottfried is probably soon to be available again.

Except it’s in the works at WKU. Lol. Charles Bassey was better than WKU and Hennsy Auriental, his legal guardian, is still an assistant there making 300

If Champagnie were to come back, paying the dad 500K for Mitchell to play the 5 here would be well worth it to make the NCAAT

And for the billionth time, they don’t wanna come back to the city and Capel isn’t gonna make staff changes. Especially to get one player. But if you say it a billion and 1 maybe it will happen

"back to the city?" He lived 20 miles south.

And they would come back if the price was right. They arent passing up 500K. They will go to the highest bidder.

You are correct though that Capel isn't going to make staff changes. He is satisfied with the recruiting and on-court performances.

Yes. BACK to the city. Kids have cars. Kids have friends. Kids have social media to meet people outside of their own school district. This isn’t 1970. BACK to the city. Stop it.

Gonna have to correct my original post. May be Ricky Greer to Xavier. Hearing conflicting info. Would be much better move to go to Florida for his career, obviously.

What a shame for the kid, in my opinion. He should’ve gone high major the first time around but absolutely at this point, without the anchor of Bergeron attached, he could’ve played at any school he wanted. A kid with that talent getting pimped to schools like UMass and Western Kentucky to secure a job for a coach involved with his mother is just pure sleaze.

Far from a done deal but they seem to be the leader

Im going to be super surprised if he "transfers down" to WKU. I mean, how much more could Stansbury pay the dad over UMass? I still think they end up at a program at Pitt's level. I'd never rule out NC State. Maybe someone like Miami who is a mess right now.

WKU has EFF you money for basketball. They can pay him whatever they want. Their staff budget is around the same as ours

But they arent going to pay him more than like 300K. He was making 200K at UMass. Do you move your family to Backwoods Kentucky for an extra 100K to play in a lesser league? I dont see it

300k in Bowling green is equivalent to 600K here. You can rent a 4 bedroom house for like 800 bucks

Last I heard he was chilling. He doesn’t need to work anymore he’s got enough dough.
I've been watching some old games from the early 2000s and remembered he was with SJU somewhat recently but I never heard anything after that. It's pretty shocking in hindsight that Pitt developed such a strong NYC recruiting base given Howland and Dixon were both west coast guys. Regardless of where his career took him later, Rohrsson probably doesn't get enough credit from Pitt fans for getting things rolling here.

He got bought out of a 5 year 2.5 mill deal at SJU after one year. Pretty much the dream.

He did a good job getting Taft, Fields, Krauser and some other guys but people forget he also brought in duds like Austin Wallace (great kid) while he was here. He was part of great staffs. Lombardi evaluating Sam Young and getting him to sign early, Dixon finding Levon Kendall, them closing on Aaron Gray (can’t remember who found him), Orlando with Gary McGhee, Mike Rice with Woodall and Brad... all of those guys found really good players. But let’s be honest, keeping BK in the fold when Howland took over was the most important thing to happen to Pitt Basketball.

I know you know A-wall better than I ever did, but you have to wonder what might have happened had he not shredded his leg like he did. I saw him play a couple games in Green Tree with what was left of rehabbed leg and and I was actually more impressed with his skill than I thought I would be. But you could see he was still limping, and still wore a heavy brace on his leg. I just wonder what he might have become had he not gotten injured. But like you said, he was a great kid, and one funny, funny guy.

You've said this before but I really disagree. I thought he was a reach from seeing him in Green Tree pre-injury.

To put it mildly, he stunk pre-injury

Jamie brought in Krauser, not Barry. People often attribute some of these NY guys to Barry, though they were not his. He was the Xaverian guys, Benjamin and Ramon. He was not Krauser, Page or McCarroll.

I completely agree with everything else you said though. Dixon was lead recruiter on Gray, FWIW.

I thought Knight was Woodall and Gibbs (even as DBO), but I could be wrong about that.

DBO’s aren’t allowed to recruit (technically) so SMF will be glad to know that perhaps we did cheat once if Knight contacted Gibbs as the DOBO :)

On the topic of assistants, I saw that Luke Murray got snatched up after leaving Louisville. Not that we had an opening, but he is the type of guy I wish we could lure here. Dynamite coach
