Fans Quit Again

There's a difference between the occasional "turmoil" or whatever you want to call it and the fact that there are a couple of you guys who absolutely revel in the misery. If any entertainment option made me as absolutely miserable as Pitt sports has made you for decades I'd find something else to do with my spare time. Nothing is worth the misery that you derive from Pitt sports on a regular basis.
You know what- it's none of your business... You're a pretentious loudmouth!

Again, I concur with this kind of post since it does reflect on things that touch upon my life at 73. I've had 2 knee replacements in the last 2 years, rotator cuff surgery, wrist surgery with 4 screws and other maladies relating to old age. However, I really enjoy my time on the Lair with other die hard Panther Fans. In the past I've given a lot financially and attended both away and home games. But times have changed and I have made adjustments. We have one Grandchild that graduated from Pitt last year and two that will graduate this Spring. Therefor, Pitt will always be at the forefront for me now and into the future. HTP !!
Nice post, Vet- bet you're proud of those grand kids. Hang in there with those physical issues! I know you will- mon valley guys are tough !

It's a beaten down fan base. It's hard to be sold lies for decades just to say , all is great, and follow blindly
I don't know, but I think you, Del and shere are projecting. You guys feel beaten down, the rest of the fan base just doesn't care as deeply. That is not at all a criticism. I believe you feel beaten down, and wear your Pitt love on your sleeve. But the truth is, Pitt fans, not you guys, suck.

Name the schools who have given their fans less the last 35 years then Pitt has-then with respect to those schools, compare the number of national championships, college all Americans they have, the number of college and pro hall of fame alums they have- The only schools who have accomplished less have nothing close to Pitt's FB tradition. There's good reason for the frustration and there's good reason for the small fan base.

Del knows what it will take to get people excited about pitt football...
40 years of championship caliber football with no down years or set backs.
Simple plan.
Hey, the Dos Equis man is here. What's it like to be a reforming message board addict? Your formula worked for PennState- didn't it, chemist?

I'd think, reading your posts, that outside a few years, we have no tradition. Just being honest.

Nope, they had down years
Yea, right... Try again. As a matter of fact if you look at most of the teams who draw well they all for the most part have had consistent long term success. Now for the real issue at hand-how you dealing with the message board addiction?

IMHO, what makes Pitt different from other so-called mediocre programs is the fact that Pitt keeps turning-out individual superstars. How many mediocre football teams can say that they recently produced such genuine NFL superstars as Larry Fitzgerald, Shady McCoy, Darrelle Revis, and Aaron Donald, yet remain so under-the-radar as a team?

This has become Pitt's curse: they've teased their fans with great individual players, but they haven't been able to recruit enough great players to occupy their roster at the same time to field a great team.

Can we PLEASE put this inaccurate argument to bed already? When the stadium was on campus, students left early - all the time. And Pitt Stadium did not sell out. And that was when we WERE a national powerhouse.
BINGO!!!!!!!!

In retrospect, losing on the road, even in embarrassing fashion to two pretty good football teams wasn't as bad as it seemed at the time.. However, giving up 27 second half points to Marshall should be more alarming.. We haven't had a nationally relevant team in more than three decades.. The Penn State game showed what can be. If we come all the way back and pound teams in the second half, lets see what we get..

Decreasing capacity limits supply, allowing Pitt to charge more for season tickets and would also make Pitt tickets more valuable on secondary markets meaning Pitt fans would be more likely to sell them for $15 per seat rather than the Stubhub minimum of $6.

Every attendance complaint comes down to 1 thing:

TOO MANY AVAILABLE SEATS

Heinz Field is way, way too big for a fanbase like Pitt's. Capacity needs decreased somehow. We dont need 70K seats.

The crowd wasnt that bad. 35K-38K (my estimate) for a G5 opponent isnt bad. It just looks much worse in a 70K seat stadium than a 45K seat stadium.

I slightly disagree with this approach as pitt doesn't need to push it's only loyal customers to the curb with price increases. Don't want to actually decrease attendance

It is embarrassing to have such a pathetic fan base that either does not show up to the game, leaves early from the game, or sits on their hands and bitches the whole game. These same people expect Pitt to bring in 4 and 5 star recruits, and wonder why we cannot land them.
Even if it's an exciting game, I never make noise, never yell, I don't want to. So what?

Stay home Yinzer, please. I bet you bitch the entire game about Pitt sucks, players suck, coaches suck. Too many of your kind polluting the stands as it is.
If you take them away there will be 20K there.

This is just it, many posters know , Pitt could be great, we have been, we can be, and then we see how administration has treated the program over the years , and wonder what the hell are they doing , and why people stick around with all this ineptitude
