FBI College Basketball Tidbit

I remember seeing Giles walking into a store at the wexford plaza. Many years ago I might add. He was in a weight lifting strap tee shirt and the dude was ripped. He was also shaved on his chest and shoulders etc. These roid users would shave their bodies because they would get body hair growth to excess so they would shave to hide the side effects.

The NCAA is a crap organization and shouldn't be trusted to impose any sanctions that would be appropriate for the crime committed. These are crimes that will be dealt with by the FBI. I'm sure the NCAA will do their puny sanctions as well, but it pales to what the FBI can and will do.

I guess I can ask a similar question. Why do people continue to not understand how serious this is getting? Paying athletes is just the tip of the iceberg. Let the NCAA deal with that. It goes way deeper than that and it's everywhere.

The people who committed crimes will hopefully be punished, but people comparing this to PSU or UNC obviously don’t understand the conclusions drawn in those cases. Thea are obviously basketball scandals, and it will blow back on PROGRAMS in addition to PEOPLE.

As I’ve said since this whole thing started, I think the true target of the investigation is the NCAA itself because I think it will be obvious they turned a blind eye to this stuff for years.

Also Giles had a younger brother who played at Fresno State and made it to the majors. He looked like a normal human being. In fact the two of them side by side reminded me of Devito and Arnold from the movie Twins

What is the true "elephant in the room", if this has happened in college basketball on this great of level, what the hell is really happening in college football, which generates much more revenue?

Unfortunately, I think college football cheating is mostly booster fanboy to player or player's family direct payments. And while thats against NCAA rules, I dont believe boosters paying players is actually illegal

Yeah, I don't think you understand that the HC's in these situations are very unlikely to have committed any federal crimes and thus face no penalty from the FBI. The only somewhat possible violation would be under RICO and that would be very tough to stick because they would have to get the HCs on tape doing the bribing or extortion and it is highly unlikely they ever did that over the phone or in anyway directly.

RICO cases are tough unless you're talking about the Hells Angels or something, and even then there are constitutional issues that (thankfully?) get in the way. I don't think we're going to see arrests on conspiracy for coaches.

Agreed. I'd say it will be practically impossible for any HCs to be prosecuted.

College football is a cesspool, and has been since the 1880s. Despite talk of the "good old days", the sport has never been close to being clean.

But were there hookers, co ed greeters, and tattoo parlors in the 1880's?

The "parents" bags must have been heavy loaded with gold or silver and "dad" would get a horse not a Caddy???
Maybe Bama would throw in a carriage making it a horse and carriage?

"it's five o'clock somewhere"

Go PITT & CSU Rams!

The federal crimes isn't referring to payment to players. It's deeper than that and involves the AAU, handlers, coaches, and payments to others besides players. Some players in the NBA will also be implicated and have connections to this.

I’d imagine there were hookers. Oldest profession in the world, no??

This will push coaches that are still young enough like Sean Miller, Jay Wright etc to the NBA leaving more open positions in P-5 than usual at the end of the season.

The NCAA is a greedy institution that has paid alot of money for the rights to broadcast the NCAA tournament. I am sure they will find a way to make certain that none of this comes out until after this season's tournament is completed.

Furthermore, I believe any sanctions will be brief and amount to a slap on the wrist, except for the people who are specifically named. The NCAA will do everything in its power to ensure that the marquee programs are not taken apart and tournament bans will probably be no more than a year, especially if the University in question shows remorse by issuing the disingenuous self-sanctions on the program.

I have no faith in the NCAA as it is guided by avarice in both football and basketball. They are probably praying that this somehow blows over and never comes out, but as a Pitt fan, one can only hope that this revelation, whenever released, will be the bombshell needed to level the playing field for college basketball.

THAT'S why JD took off!

Seriously, as much as this team sucks right now, it feels good knowing that at least we don't pay our players 100,000 dollars.
Why? Do you think Louisville fans are sitting thinking, "Oh that joy I experienced when we won the national championship didn't really happen"?

IF you ever watch or listen to NBA broadcasters Sean Miller is always mentioned as the college coach most coveted by the NBA. He is considered as the next Brad Stevens.

I don't watch the NBA a lot, but I can honestly say that I have never, ever heard anyone on any NBA game or studio show say that Sean Miller was coveted by anyone in the NBA.

Just a quick web search finds two articles about which NCAA coaches may jump to the NBA. One of them didn't have Miller listed in their six names. The other had him ranked as the 8th choice, after noting that they excluded people like Izzo and K because there is no way they will ever go to the NBA. And that one had a blurb from an NBA GM stating that the problem with Miller is that he is very much like most of the coaches that jump to the NBA and fail.

The notion that anyone other than his dad thinks that he is the next Brad Stevens is laughable. If any NBA teams thought that they'd have offered him a giant pile of money a long time ago. And he'd have made the jump. After all, Stevens is making $22 million per year on a six year contract. You think Arizona would compete with that? Not hardly.

I watch the NBA daily and have never heard this. What broadcasts are you listening to?

Miller would be a horrendous NBA coach.
