Femi to Portal

I didn’t mention him by name. General statement…Some of these kids will go into worse situations because they think they are Lebron James…
Exactly, as they say, sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side. Some of these kids should be thankful for the opportunity they have.

There is no way Lyke did not know this was going to happen.

Almost an entire team leaves.

So much for Lyke not caring about success or Xsan’s Os and being more concerned with being one happy family bs.

Lyke was only concerned about admitting a mistake and paying to correct it.
Yep saw this coming a mile away ADHL will have to live with this mess

The flip side is JC has the opportunity to remake the team. If he's lucky, we become next year's Wake or Iowa St.

Perhaps but let’s not act as if there have been any great losses.

I have little to no optimism Capel’s gonna land enough to improve much if it all but Femi leaving is hardly worth getting twisted over. The others even less so.

Bingo!

1,055 kids in the portal??????? Incredible!

If I’m one of these kids, the first thing I think about is how will a move to another school effect my major? Will I have to take more classes to earn my degree??? But unfortunately, they don’t…

They think they are NBA bound. 95% of these kids will never see the NBA unless they buy a ticket to a game

You do know how much money there is to be made in numerous other countries playing ball right…? Ball is life for some of these guys man, they can make a great living playing ball in other leagues besides the NBA….calm down there bud

Agree about the kids in basketball able to play overseas. But for football. Not so much. It usually doesn’t make as much sense in football

This hurts only if we were able to find 3 or 4 new starters. He is a a 6th or 7th guy on a good team. Otherwise, doesn’t really matter as the difference between him and replacement player is a win, if that.

We seemingly tend to
see and concentrate on
the negative, There are
some positive results
due to transferring. We
all remember Johnson
moving up to NC and
doing great, and on to
the NBA. Another very
good transfer was Malik
Ellison doing very little
at Pitt and transferring
down toHartford where
he averaged 18ppg. He
signed a contract and
played in Europe. Then
the following year signed
with Atlanta and played
in the G League. He even
got a 10day contract with
the Hawks, then moved
back to D League. Who
woulda thunk it? Nobody
here (myself included) that's
for sure.

With all that said, I am not
in favor of the present
transfer and portal situation.
However for guys like Collier,
Payton, Amadason....they
made a mistake coming to an
ACC team in the first place.
They belong down a few to
several levels, St. Francis
maybe. If they can stay here,
ride the bench, be happy as
a teamate....then remain at
Pitt and earn a valuable degree.
But then again, some of them
get encouraged to leave. There's
both good and bad on all sides
with the present situation.

Capel is up there with Stallings, Todd Graham, etc. Amazing to think this dude will be here for five or six years. He's just awful. Femi isn't Russell Westbrook or anything, but that's beside the point. Nobody - not even ACC starters - want to play for our coach. Guys would rather go ride the pine at St. Bonaventure then stick around here.

It will be very interesting to see where he ends up and how it works out. He's an intriguing player--neither the stiff that some posters think he is nor the potential star others think he can be. He has some upside and can be a valuable contributor in the right program. Or he could be a non-factor. Time will tell.

Yeah, if he put the time in this off season and had a solid so to Jr improvement, he could be a solid starter.

"Great" is debatable. But if they can enjoy doing what they do for 3-4 years after college, more power to them. They can always finish their degree afterwards, if need be.

They have to change it back. All its teaching kids to quit the second it gets tough.
Why should athletes be treated differently than any other student? The national average for students transferring is around 40%. Just because a college student plays a sport shouldn't keep them from doing something every other student can do. These kids are swooned upon by grown adults from the time they are in middle school. What message are adults teaching these kids???

Losing programs under this system will always have kids that leave . The ones seeing PT think that they’re better than they are and they’re not the reason for the losing and the ones not seeing PT have no reason to stay .

Would’ve liked seeing Femi stay and improve, maybe he sees himself as a pg , but he’s shown that he’s not a very good one. .

Losing mediocre at best players from losing teams is really not an issue to me .

While it does create chaos the transfer rules allow teams to radically improve their rosters quickly .

There’s a lot of hyperbole in the recruiting process and if a coach wasn’t really being truthful to a recruit it allows the kid the opportunity to leave without sitting .

Hope Capel wasn't out telling players their time would be limited with six open scholarships! I get the point though.

Femi isn’t dumb. If he goes back to UMass he will be a star
Is that a possibility? How often does a student athlete return to the school they originally transferred from? Would be interesting… also of note, UMass has a new head coach. Wonder if there’s still interest on their side?

I agree, they have to change it back.

The day after they tell the adults who make millions off the kids that they aren't allowed to go anywhere else too.
If it takes HC's having to sit out a year, I'm all for it. For example, lets say Shaheen Holloway wants to go to SHU. Great. Hire a staff, coach in practices but has to sit out a year of games. Whatever it takes because 30% of players transferring every year is absurd. It will be 50-75% of players will not finish their career at the same school

Schools with the deeper pockets and will to win will always be able to pay the price of acquiring talent whether it’s players or coaches .

Restricting HC like St Peters from moving up to SHU wouldn’t be fair to him .

Taking buyouts for both sides out of a contracts and then not allowing coaches to move on is the only answer and I doubt that schools want to have to fully guarantee all the yrs on a coaches contract .
