Femi to Portal

One thing about coaches leaving for another job. It's in their contract they are allowed to do it. That's why there are buyouts. So legally they are allowed as long as they pay their buyout. Schools don't have to have buyouts and thus keep their coach throughout the life of a contract.

Is it really the best thing for these kids to allow them to leave on a whim any time they have a bad day? What about teaching resiliency? Arent we just teaching them to quit?
Would you stay in a job you don’t like, hate or is just a bad fit?

Nothing wrong with looking for a better opportunity. And that’s the real world today too. Used to be people got jobs and stayed for a lifetime or for long periods. Now job hopping is the thing to do and the best way to move up.

It stinks as a fan. Like I’ve said before it was fun to watch the Pitt teams develop and see the linkage. But it’s over and it’s not going back.

This is like how things were for Duquesne in the 90s and 00’s … they had nearly 100% turnover in their rosters year to year, each season a brand new set of transfers, seemingly any warm body they could shanghai at the airport passing through to a connecting flight (or so it appeared). And Pitt fans like us were smugly making fun of them. What goes around comes around, I guess. In fact it’s actually harder for us now, at least the Dukes were able to fill their rosters then. Maybe the real issue now is that Pgh international is no longer a hub…

You are making an apples to oranges comparison. The institution of the grad transfer rule, plus the 1-time immediate transfer rule, plus the extra Covid year makes the current situation completely different from what existed previously. Transfer across college basketball have exploded in the last year, because of the new rules.

Also, how can you say that it will be harder for Pitt to restock with transfers, when there are so many more transfers available? Pitt brought in 2 starters from the portal last year, and there is no reason to think that the staff will not be able to be as successful this year. I am not suggesting that they will bring in great players, just that they will be able to restock the roster.

If he is happy to accept 10-15 MPG at Kentucky, I'm sure they'd take him as a 9th man.
I had similar thoughts but who knows. Maybe coaches see something in him and if he’s not asked to dribble so goddam much he could be effective. I tend to agree with you but the longer the Capel system (or lack of) has been around anything’s possible. Although the others who’ve left have been pretty much what they were here.

I think Femi’s a good player, with a chance to be really good. He’s not a perfect player right now, but he’s a good one. For one reason or another, things stopped clicking for him here, and that impacted his production on the court more than his talent did. Not going to say he checked out, but it seemed clear that he was frustrated here.

He’s a poor shooter which limits him as a wing. He doesn’t have the handle or the instincts to play the point. He has not shown much of a midrange off the bounce type game. He is quick and athletic and can run the floor in transition and get to the rim off the bounce. He has the physical abilities and length to be a high level perimeter defender.

I’m sure a lot of teams with good existing rosters and some depth can use a player like Femi.

As a bench player , he’s not transferring to sit !

that isn’t their plan for him as of now

Do you honestly believe he can earn PT on a Kentucky team? To put it in perspective Would he have seen the floor on any of the final four teams this year? I just don’t see it.

Kentucky lost to St Peter’s. A 22 YO covid sophomore who averaged 11 in ACC w 4 assists prob seems better than relying on another 18 year old? I don’t know. Just passing along

Cummings isnt even a PG but Capel will try and make him one.

Is it really the best thing for SMF to allow him to leave his job on a whim any time he has a bad day? What about teaching resiliency? Aren't we just teaching SMF to quit? Once SMF took his first job he should have stuck with that company for life, even if it was just a summer job at the Sheetz. He could have made MTOs the rest of his life.

If he wasn't a quitter.

Maybe in the world you live in Femi will play for Kentucky, never in the real world .

Femi is a good player and I wish he was still at Pitt, but that said, his skill set doesn’t scream “Kentucky guard”.

Kentucky could select the top 5 transfers and call it a day. I do think they and Duke rely too heavily on 18 year olds though. Been saying that for awhile. They should each take 2 Top 10's, that's it. Then take Top 50-75 guys and top-tier transfers. That's the formula

He averaged 11/4/4 in his first full year starting and was “terrible”. He’s going to Kentucky because they want to play him, Doctor
I don't know who WOULDN'T want to start their career at Pitt. We send guys to the NBA, UNC, Indiana, Arkansas, etc. Maybe we can be the Ajax of College Basketball. Soccer guys will know what I mean

When I think about it, Femi should be a fit in the Ky transition game, not something Pitt did much of this season.
he would get his minutes there for sure, but never as a primary scorer. Every team can use a long athletic guy with some handle. He’s well-equipped to be a role player for a solid team. He is not well equipped to be the lead dog and focal point of the offense as he was at Pitt. I would think nobody would want him shooting a three unless he’s all alone and unguarded, and you don’t want a guard who’s a poor foul shooter on the floor at the end of a close game.

The SEC is a much higher level though
No it’s not. Didn’t you watch the tournament? If he was going to a Big 12 school, I’d agree. But it’s no different than when X and Carr transferred to a worse league.

If that’s the best Ky can do they’ll no longer be a national contender. Ky can recruit the best hs and portal guys and sorry Femi your not one of them .

Yea, I don't understand why Cal just doesn't call the Top 5 transfers and say, "hey, we want you at Kentucky, fax this paper back to me." Femi can get time there but he's probably not even a Top 200 transfer.

I can’t imagine why Programs haven’t contacted you for a consultant position. You seem to have such expert knowledge on all aspects of the NCAA game..

Little bit of a difference between being a role player in an efficient system and needing to be a producer in a shit show. Steve Pearce went on to play for the Yankees and Red Sox after his time in Pittsburgh. David Freese won a world series with the Dodgers the year he played his final season here. Craig Wilson played for the Yankees. The list goes on. Even the best teams in college basketball don't have 13 superstars.
