Smith and Maia - 1st 3 ACC Games - Syr, Geo.T and ND:

Smith 79 minutes Maia 65 minutes

Smith and Maia - 2nd 3 ACC Games - Louis, BC and NC State

Smith 56 minutes Maia 38 minutes

I do not like the trend or the results

When our starting 2 and 5 play poorly, we aren't going to play well.

Is it really that hard to understand that Maia didn't play a lot last night because he played poorly and he couldn't stop fouling when he was in the game?

He sat in the first half in large part because he got two fouls. He came back to start the second half and quickly got his third and sat again. If he would have played straight through how many more minutes do you suppose he might have played before fouling out?

Do you think we lost because Maia and Smith played poorly? I don't. We were physically overwhelmed. Not playing two of our best rebounders was not helpful.

I would have liked to see Maia, Odoba, Luther and Nix had he been available all commit 5 fouls. Maybe we could have used our depth to get NC State into foul trouble. All I know is playing small was not and has not been a good answer for us. Mike Young and Jeter were not a better option.
