Man that guy sucks. Put hall of famer Murray in!!!!

I know, i just jinxed us for the 3rd but I can't help myself.

You did jinx us. Come on man. Really? You couldn't have waited for this post?

Never thought they'd turn it around from Game 6. Boy, did they show me! Completely different team, and Fluery was a wall, albeit a luck wall, but a wall nonetheless!
Bon Apetite!

On to the Senators.

That third period was the best defense that I've seen the Pens play in ages. I don't know how they prevented the Capitals from building any momentum in that period, but somehow they did.

The 1983 Pens played in game 6. After the first 5 minutes tonite the Stanley Cup Champion Pens took the ice. And that was that. Semi-finals for the Pens. T-times for the Caps.

The 3rd period tonight was a championship performance. Out of the 21 periods in the series that was their absolute best. Of course, without MAF's heroics earlier in the game it would have been moot. Major props to him. What a performance.

Today at work a partner of mine asked me what the Pens could do to win this game ...... I told him that 1) Fleury would have to play a GREAT game ...... 2) I would insert Wilson into the lineup as he played really well in Game #4 with speed .... Sullivan did one better by putting both Wilson and Rowney into the lineup and they played really well with great forechecking and great energy/speed which really disrupted the Caps breakouts ..... 3) I would change our breakout system from longer stretch passes to short quick passes meaning the center and wingers would need to come back and support the D-men better when we had the puck in our zone.

They did exactly those things plus just great forechecking and backchecking and AN ABSOLUTELY GREAT GAME BY FLEURY !!!!! ..... it was really a terrific team victory !!!!! ..... GREAT EFFORT !!!!!! ....... WOW !!!!!!!

..... BUT, time to get ready for Ottawa.

Wilson and Rowney were outstanding at the little things. All series long the Caps dominated the board play and wore the Pens down with strong forechecking. Wilson and Rowney really negated that during their shifts.

Yes, it was ALL good.
Ollie Matta is scary at times, and Geno still isn't playing strong, but the Pens gave one of the most impressive turnaround performances from game 6 to game 7 that I can remember.
Hard to imagine it was the same team!

I know it was just one game, one huge game albeit. But I am loving carter rowney on the penalty kill.

Exactly ...... I thought Wilson played well in a similar way in Game #4 and that is why I suggested he play in Game #7 .... our 4th line was playing poorly, IMO, for the last couple games ...... but Sullivan, who obviously is exponentially smarter than me regarding hockey, made an even better move by putting both Wilson and Rowney in the line up ..... their speed/energy/forechecking did really disrupt the Caps breakout making the 4th line play much better (really all lines played better in that regard) .....

Also, another big thing about the great forechecking is that it not only made it more difficult for the Caps to skate or pass the puck out of their zone but it allowed the Pens to pinch their D-men in to keep the puck in the Caps zone ..... as happened in Game #6, when your forechecking is not working and you pinch the D-men, it can lead to odd man breaks against you.

A big thing in the playoffs is often making adjustments from one game to the next ..... Sullivan and staff made the adjustments and the team carried them out to perfection ...... and Fleury backed it all up !

playoff MVP at the halfway point

his past failures still remain

06/07 = 1-4 with a .880 sv% and 3.76 gaa
07/08 = 14-6 with a .933 sv% and 1.97 gaa
08/09 = 16-8 with a .908 sv% and 2.61 gaa
09/10 = 7-6 with a .891 sv% and a 2.78 gaa
10/11 = 3-4 with a .899 sv% and a 2.52 gaa
11/12 = 2-4 with a .834 sv% and a 4.63 gaa
12/13 = 2-2 with a .883 sv% and a 3.52 gaa
13/14 = 7-6 with a .915 sv% and a 2.40 gaa
14/15 = 1-4 with a .927 sv% and a 2.12 gaa
15/16 = 0-1 with a .875 sv% and a 3.04 gaa
16/17 = 8-5 with a .928 sv% and a 2.49 gaa

We'll call it 10 playoff appearances...i would say he had 3 bad (12/13, 11/12, 06/07), 5 good (16/17, 14/15, 13/14, 08/09, 07/08) and 2 average (10/11, 09/10).

If Fleury wins this series, he ties Hasek for playoff wins for #11 all time and does it in less games. What a careef stiff in the playoffs!
