Flu outbreak hits Notre Dame

Could PSU's CFP run get any easier? No word yet on who may be out. These things CAN be pretty a pretty big deal.
The normal nit conspiracy theorists have to be silent after this slate of massive good luck...that said if they lose they will be out immediately with some refs were out to get us crap

Wow. The winner of Ohio State/Texas better put its guys in bubble wrap, because this is starting to turn into some Final Destination stuff. I think Calpurnia just had a dream that Jeremiah Smith will quit football tomorrow morning to become a missionary.

I religiously get my flu shot because of my profession and at the same time the efficacy of it has never been great.

Isn't it sort of a guess as to which strains will be the most active that season? Plus, I feel like "flu" is a pretty generic term people use to describe a ton of ailments. I've never heard a team announce it's been hit with a case of rancid giardia resulting in explosive player diarrhea, but I'm sure it's happened.

Yeah the actual flu (influenza) is bad if you get it. Someone brighter than me can chime in but I think it moves from the pacific eastward and often the shot is based upon what countries like Australia are seeing but it's often a guess as to what the exact strain is 6 months later here in the US.

Do these players not get flu shots? I hope this doesnt become an anti-vax thread but if you are playing a pro sport, you would think you'd be required.
You do realize a flu shot is a crap shoot.
Many variances are floating around.
I get them yearly, but one can still get sick.

My daughter works at a hospital and was required to get one early. She got the flu. She was talking to the infectious disease docs at the hospital and they said the initial vaccine was pretty much worthless because the predicted flu was different than what came. My son in law got his shot later and did not get the same flu my daughter had and also gave to me as a Christmas present.

I had the Shingrix shot a few years back. Retired. Thought I was protected.
Was diagnosed with a mild case of shingles today. Go figure.

Same here, but if you're going to get shingles, mild is the way to go.
Older buddy got it without vaccination, and he is one hurting cowboy. Really painful, ugly welts/sores on his sides.

No thanks!

Yea they’re generally I believe in the 30-60% range. It’s an educated guess and if they’re wrong on the strain it’s on the lower end. And I think generally they only help lessen symptoms not necessarily prevent it.

People seem to not understand that many times a vaccine won’t prevent an illness altogether, but it will often still lessen the impact of the illness considerably and in some cases will keep it from being life threatening. .

Blah blah blah .. Go sit on the toilet , poop it out and get back at it ..
Are we that shell shocked since the "deadly virus" of 2019 ?

Shingles doesn’t care! LOL
I'm old (60 ish). I caught shingles when I was 10 . A rash . Itching . Then nothing since .
It's been around forever .
Our older folks need to be more concerned . When you catch it when your older it can pose a problem ...
Why ? I'm not sure ...

You can get shingles multiple times because chickenpox virus (Varicella) goes dormant in nerve cells and then comes back out at anytime.

Not likely shingles at age 10 with an itchy rash. What age did you have chickenpox?

Probably at 5 or 6 . Mom's used to group the kids up so they all just got them all together . (weird ritual) But that's what they did in those days . Let them them get it and get over it .. Just how it was back then ...

Edit: Now that I think about it . I was around 15 - 16 when I caught shingles .. Still just a rash and some minor itch on my shoulder . Plus . I grew these huge testicles and an enormous penis .... Weird ...😳
