To make the NCAAT

Pitt has already shown they can compete with the ACC top teams like Clemson, Louisville and Wake. Given the upsets that can happen (e.g. someone taking out Duke), it’s certainly possible if highly unlikely. NC State proved that last year. That’s why it’s called a Cinderella run.
They did. Who is our Horne or Burns that can carry this team on a run?

I don't think we can beat Clemson or Louisville twice in a row on back-to-back days.

Me neither but I think we have a better chance of that than beating Duke once. Also, you might get lucky, beat Louisville and then have say, SMU or UNC or Wake beat Clem and then you beat them in the next round, another Q1

Yes best case they win the next 5 and are 6-6 road and 1-1 neutral, with 2Q1A wins. Then win at least one more neutral in AcC tourney and likely in last four in.

Yeah you need some luck. NC State got some last year when Clemson went out in the first round and then getting to play UVA who should have lost to BC. Then in the final, UNC shot 37% and was 8-30 shooting threes.

I am not saying Pitt has any kind of chance of winning the conference tourney but neither did Syracuse in 05 or NC State last year going in. I also don’t think they have a chance of making the NCAA tourney without winning the ACC tourney or at least making the final. But if any program deserves some luck, it’s Pitt who has a history of post-season misery that is probably unmatched, especially when you consider the 9 teams that made up the Big East in 1983 and what the other 8 have accomplished.

You always need luck. NC State also got Oakland in Round 2 instead of Kentucky. They may have lost to Kentucky. Usually, with runs like that, you get 1 or 2 lucky draws. Pitt has mostly never benefitted from this other than blowing the Bradley and Kent St games.

if we don't win out I am perfectly content to lay it at the feet of this team and HC

order of blame due to what looks like lack of effort and focus and selfishness and talent and leadership and etc. as follows:
Capel
Cam
Dunn
Lowe
GDG
Ish
Zack(almost shouldn't be on this list)

at this point this team and its leader have earned nothing and while they can earn it in the remaining games I have zero problem saying they have only themselves and their play along with the leader to blame

I will watch every game and scream and curse like an idiot because Pitt MBB is my favorite entertainment but unfortunately the anticipation for next year and any real expectations and hopes are diminished finally here in year 7 with JC......and will be for the foreseeable
and really I have to remember Lowe is just a sophomore and Cam a junior

probably playing exactly like Capel is coaching them, outside a little effort by Cam and possibly wanting Jaland to kick out on some contested drives more often (?)

arguably GT is simply a better team than Pitt right now and has been playing as such for more than a month.

I'm not sure how much better than us they have played. For example, five days after our lousy 16 point loss to Virginia they lost to Virginia by 14. They also lost a couple weeks ago to Notre Dame. They just got a two point overtime home win against the Cal team that we beat by 12. Before that they got an eight point home win over the Stanford team that we beat by 15.

It seems to me that both teams are pretty inconsistent. Which is probably why when you look at the ACC standings you see the two teams right next to each other.

Yes, they struggled a bit with Stanford and Cal, but I'm not so sure that we wouldn't right now either. We played them before things crumbled.

They are no world beaters, but I have watched them against Clemson, Louisville and Cal and they looked better than Pitt has, IMO, of course. We shall see. Hope we beat them by 15.

At this point I don't care if we get in because even if we do realistically our ceiling is one win in the tournament. Last year's team had a much higher ceiling and really jelled coming down the stretch.

True, but we get them at The Pete and any loss to a 13-loss team is a dagger at this point in the season, short of beating Louisville and winning multiple ACC Tournament games.

That’s why I believe there’s no excuse for losing a game like that at home with the season on the line.
Is "at The Pete" much of an advantage nowadays?
