However, FOX is trying to do things a little differently. They are planning on making their best game each week be a high noon showdown.

During today’s FOX upfronts, the network announced it will show its best game each week at noon ET.

Expect a lot of quality Big Ten and Big 12 games kicking off early this upcoming season as a result.

FOX #Upfronts says their best games will be at 12p Eastern, 11a Central this season.

My question is why? Less people watch tv at noon then in afternoons or evenings.

I’m trying to get the strategy. Maybe they don’t want to compete with abc and Espn later on and knowing that the noon game usually sucks, they’ll put their good game there and own that slot.

Some central time zone teams in big 12 could be looking at an 11am kickoff. That’s brutal.

Central time zone teams in both the Big 12 and the Big 10 have played 11am games for years.

For instance this past season Oklahoma, the best team in the Big 12, played five games that kicked off at 11am local time. One of those was the Big 12 championship game. In the Big 10 Nebraska played FOUR home games that started at 11am, as well as roadies against Northwestern and Iowa. That's half their games starting at 11am local time.

But those are second rate programs like Pitt who their conference hates

Noon sucks! Worst time for a sports event! I want 4pm or later. Especially if I'm watching at home, evening 6pm or later is even better, for a big game, if I'm watching at home, I'll fire up the grill outside and crack open a few beers and be able to enjoy the game and not have to even consider doing anything later, as by the time it's over it's after 10-11pm. Noon sucks, I'd rather be out doing ANYTHING ELSE in the late morning afternoon, rather than watching TV.

I'll take that even further, when Pitt plays noon games, since I live in Baltimore area, it's not hard to go through the whole day and avoid the score (can't do that for the Steelers), I just tell my Pitt friends don't text or call me about the game, and often DVR it and watch a noon game at 5-6 pm as if it's live, just because I like watching then better.

Isn't FOX down in the pecking order when it comes to selecting their games from the B1G and Big 12? If so it makes sense to run their game with as little competition as possible, that 3:30pm Eastern slot has the top SEC game on CBS, strong ACC and B1G games on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2, then NBC with either Notre Dame or Golf during that time slot.

I had no clue thy had anything to do with big 10 to be honest. I did know they had rights to big 12.

Big 10 I thought was abc(Espn), I don’t remember seeing any big 10 games on fox.

That one almost always came on at noon, didn't it?
yes, this game is always on at noon. I think the big ten had some stupid rule about evening games in November not too long ago but regardless, this game is a noon game no matter abc or fox.

I just always remember that being on abc. I guess I haven’t been paying attention.
ESPN/ABC and broadcast FOX have split the B1G package the past few seasons. It looks like FOX gets the first pick of games the final three weeks of the season that's why they have Michigan-Ohio State this season.

How many Big 10 games are must watch TV each week?
FOX says they will air Michigan vs Ohio State again this fall.
That's about the only Big 10 game that I would watch. Maybe a Michigan v Michigan State game, if they are both having good seasons, but I can't think of another game between Big 10 teams that holds much interest.

I like the mich vs ND game early in season. that's usually a really good one in week 2 of the season.

I was thinking more about conference foes, but that is a game that can hold some interest. Most years both teams are highly ranked early in the season, because, well, they're Michigan and Notre Dame, so they seem to have to be ranked at the beginning of each season.

Mich vs MSU is good. Yeah, that’s about it. Of course I watch any game with psu in it, rooting against them.

Golfing culture is the epitome of rich WASP privilege built on the slogan "No blacks, no Jews allowed"

Golf and country clubs are an enduring EMBARRASSMENT to America!

Hm interesting. I actually just scheduled a tee time with a jew for next Friday at a country club.... Maybe I should call and tell them my guest is a jew and ask their permission to bring him

The next time I’m at South Park golf course, paired up with a dude wearing jean shorts, no shirt on who snuck his own 6 pack on the course in a plastic bag, I’ll remind him that we are partaking in a rich, wasp dominated form of entertainment.

North park allows basketball shorts a cutoffs... Not only do you not need a collar but you don’t even need sleeves

Wow! That's a mighty broad brush that you paint with.

No, That is factual historic information as to how country clubs were founded and ran for many many years.

Then again you may also believe that southern plantations weren't founded and ran on slave labor for many years too,

The history of many things in America aren't the rosy crap the GOP spews on Faux News either.

Another lib looking for something to cry about. I like golfing. This isn’t a 1964 man. I don’t care if your white Black catholic Jewish Yiddish... I might even play with you if you practice communism if you have a couple of decent tips around the green

The most captivating athlete in all of golf is African American.... and I love watching him compete on the back 9 on Sunday. Anyone know if Tiger is Jewish? Daily double if so

No I just at one time worked for country club f--ks who still promoted people based on that philosophy where only straight WASPS made management.

So yes the country club culture is alive in the 21st century and i despise it!

Country clubs are great!

I'm from Italian decent with .25% Irish mixed in and just for the heck of it Native American ( .00000000000000001) like Elizabeth Warren
When I caddied at Baltustrol Country Club back in the 60's they wouldn't admit Italians, Polish, Irish, Hungarians, etc.
It was straight off the Mayflower.

So what Country Clubs are great!
They're private clubs and can admit anyone they want to.

Just like on my private property when I have a big party I only invite who I want.

If country clubs are forced to admit anyone that means anyone can come to my home parties.

I don't want that!

Country Clubs are Great!

Fyi Today most anyone with money gets in because they down on membership!

Serious question. I don't golf. If I had to and it was 70 degrees or hotter, I'd wear a t-shirt, Nike shorts, and sneakers. Is that seriously not allowed on public courses?

I play golf 4 or 5 times a week all over the place.

Some public courses require a collared shirt.
Shorts are ok on all public courses but not at some country clubs.
I have encountered a few public courses that won't allow mens cargo shorts.
Obviously bathing suit looking shorts won't make it.

At one country club near us no halter tops for women, the length of womens skirts is in their rules. Mrs Buffett has lady friends who are members there, she gets invited but declines since all her golf dresses are shorter than 4 inches above the knee! The guys love it when she bends over to get the ball out of the cup?
And most of her golf tops are Halter tops especially in the summer when it gets hot.

Here's the dress code for Moselem Springs Country Club in our area in PA.
Mrs Buffett and I would never play here due to the dress code. She wouldn't be allowed on the course.

Dress Code
Men
Appropriate attire for men and junior boys includes the following: polo-type shirts with sleeves and collar, turtleneck or mock turtleneck, and must be worn tucked in trousers or shorts. Sleeves may be long or short. Pants must be either tailored slacks or Bermuda shorts. Length of the shorts must be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee, or Bermuda length. Pants or shorts must be worn with a belt. Hats and caps must be worn facing forward.
Unacceptable attire includes the following: T-shirts of any kind, tank tops, short-shorts, warm-up pants, cargo pants or shorts, drawstring pants or shorts.

Women
Appropriate attire for women and junior girls includes the following: shirts must have sleeves and/or a collar and must be long enough to be tucked in. Turtlenecks or mock turtlenecks are permitted. Tailored slacks, shorts, skorts, or Capri pants are acceptable. Length of shorts, skirts, or skorts must be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee.

Unacceptable attire includes the following: sleeveless T-shirts, tank tops, halter tops, short-shorts, athletic/exercise pants, tights, gym shorts, leggings, cargo pants or shorts, drawstring pants or shorts, or sweatpants.

Golf Shoes
Appropriate shoes for use on the golf course include those that have soft spikes or dimpled soles. Flat-soled sneakers are permitted.

The club dress code policy will be strictly enforced.

SMF fyi- if you plan on playing golf in sneakers save your money you need golf shoes which look like sneakers these days.

nowadays, its the norm. you go to a nicer public golf course around , you are strongly encouraged to wear a collar shirt. Shorts is no big deal at all. No one would say anything to do you, especially in this day and age wear everyone dresses like that.

You go to a higher end public course in this country, they still might make you wear a shirt with a collar.. Private country clubs? You're guess is as good as mine my man. they don't let guys like me in those clubs. Jews, blacks, and swervins, we cant even get thru the front gate..
