OK, so it is assumed that college sports TV contracts are valued at 80% football, 20% basketball. In fact, the ACC uses that calculation in determining how much revenue to give ND.

So if FOX is paying the Big Ten $250 million per year to air 25 football games and 50 basketball games, that means the football games are valued at $200 million or $8 million each and the basketball games are valued at $50 million or $1 million each.

I realize sports are the last form of live TV people watch but its hard for me to imagine Mich/OSU being worth $8 million, let alone Wisconsin/Iowa or Rutgers/Michigan State. How much are they making off commericals? I mean a million bucks to air a Tuesday night Maryland/Indiana basketball game? Really? I guess so.

They may not make that much off commercials. Fox doesn't have as much college content, and they have two new mouths to feed (FS1, FS2). Fox might just be taking a gamble that they hope pays off over the long haul.

The current rate for advertising on a national college football game is about $100,000 per 30 second ad. So you would need 40 minutes of commercials. During the game they are required to have 20 commercial breaks. Then you have commercials prior to the game and during half time. In addition they make additional revenue from sponsorship deals like half time sponsor, title sponsor, replay of the game, ect. So I can see them easily making that money back.
