Fox Sports: Preseason Rankings - Pitt ranked #25

The month of September is huge for this program. If they can get to 3-1 (4-0 is a really long shot), this team will be ranked in the Top 20.

I don't see 4-0 as a really long shot.

--Villanova should be a gimme.
--Ped State is outclassed and in Pittsburgh.
--OkSt is way overrated (OL is bad, D is bad and just lost their only star, barely got 4 of their wins, smashed in final 3 games).
--UNC is the toughest one BUT a) as a whole they're just a tiny notch above Pitt, b) they might overlook us since they're at top-5 FSU the next week, c) their D is ripe to be gouged by bruising, ball-control offenses.

If we remain healthy, Conner is at 90%, and Pitts' replacement is an improvement (which many people think Hamlin could/should be by that OkSt match-up), I'd give Pitt 30-40% chance of starting 4-0. But I agree, even 3-1 would probably have us in the top-20.

If we go 4-0 with wins against Penn St., and *at* top 25 teams in UNC and OK State, we'll be close to the top 10.

-Oklahoma State's #2 WR is now out until at least October with a broken foot in Marcell Ateman

-North Carolina lost a starting offensive tackle for the entire season

-Miami's #2 WR is out for the season with a blown out leg. They are down to about 3 WR's left

-Heavy losses to teams we play without playing a single game yet.

25 Pittsburgh
The most inspiring story of the offseason is RB James Conner’s return from cancer. In 2014, Conner, who tore his ACL early last season, was the nation’s No. 6 rusher. He’ll greatly benefit returning QB Nathan Peterman. Coach Pat Narduzzi is known for producing fearsome defenses. With eight starters back, including DE Ejuan Price and S Jordan Whitehead, the Panthers should produce one of the ACC’s best units.

1. SEC:
1 Alabama
4 LSU
9 Tennessee
18 Ole Miss
22 Texas A&M
24 Florida

2. ACC:
2 Florida State
3 Clemson (Pitt)
10 Louisville
21 North Carolina (Pitt)
25 Pittsburgh (Psu)

12 Notre Dame

3. PAC-12:
11 Stanford
13 Washington
14 UCLA
16 Washington State
17 Utah

4. BIG-10
7 Ohio State (Psu)
8 Michigan (Psu)
15 Iowa (Psu)
19 Michigan State (Psu)

5. BIG-12:
5 Oklahoma (Wvu)
6 TCU (Wvu)
23 Oklahoma State (Pitt) (Wvu)
